    Simple and well built. Just what I needed to see. I'm pretty close to getting started on mine. It is all based on a set of antique cast iron warehouse cart wheels and some other cool bits I have laying around.

    I have a 24”x60” Santa Maria grill and I put fire bricks on the bottom (I’ve had it for 12yrs) I also use an expanded metal grate for my firewood, helps with air flow when lighting my red oak.

    Not sure what "hot rod" is? Is it the same as hot rolled? Great job on the build. I'll be building a smaller version to fit an existing place in my BBQ area. Thanks for the vid.

      @skylarwagner1155  Рік тому +3

      Yes sir it is the same as hot rolled. The place I buy it from calls it hot rod steel.

    Great job. Just wondering is it safe to cook food on the hot rod grill (mild steel)? Should it be chrome or cast iron? Just checking as i am thinking of building one.👍

      @skylarwagner1155  10 місяців тому

      I have never had problems with it. But I know you can also buy it “pickled” which is supposed to be good for grilling on

    Nicely done. how much should a fella expect to spend if I had someone make me one of these? Missed welding in high school.....

      It depends, you can find prices of custom built ones on the internet ranging from $2,000 to $6,000.

    hi well done on the grill man!! any recommendations on how to get sheet metal at a decent price ? anywhere i look i am close to $1000 alone just on metal material for 16 gauge

    • @skylarwagner1155
      @skylarwagner1155  Рік тому +1

      That’s extremely expensive I built this out of 11 gauge and the sheet costed around $180. I bought mine from the local metal supply.

    Can you make a fryer one like that and how much it will cost?

    • @skylarwagner1155

      @@swaggypixs2527 instead of having a grill top just make a box that you can lower and raise?

    Nice job,
    what metal is used?
    what type of welder do you use?
    Thanks in avance !

    • @skylarwagner1155
      @skylarwagner1155  Рік тому

      I used 11 gauge to build everything
      1x2 rectangle
      3/4 inch sucker rod
      4x8 sheet metal
      Expanded metal
      1x1 angle iron
      1/2 hot rod

    • @skylarwagner1155
      @skylarwagner1155  Рік тому

      And I used a 180 Lincoln mig welder.

  • @geoffarcuri7877

    Did you use any kind of bearings for the rod or is it just run straight through the holes? Looks smooth, but is it noisy?

    • @skylarwagner1155
      @skylarwagner1155  7 місяців тому +1

      It’s a little noisy but a lot less work than putting bearings in it

    How thick is the sheet metal?

  • @ChefKevinRiese
    @ChefKevinRiese 4 місяці тому

    Nice but could use improvements. Box too high. No need for that 18"? Gear too crude. Use after market gear and pawl. Also use angle iron for grill and make a grease box so no flare ups. Why make that fancy cut out and weaken the grill grate? Should have used a channel welded to the side instead like all the ones I have seen and the one I'm making. You dont need that piece of angle in the front. That will be in the way when cooking!
