    Had this thing for years and years now. Incredible "always on" pedal.
    It's one of those things where you've gotta let go of needing to know/being able to adjust the attack, and trust the pedal is doing it right. My ears have never told me that it isn't!

  • @Dannyroo08

    thanks for reviewing the bc1x, I pulled the trigger on this and easily the best pedal comp I've used, hard to get a bad sound out of it even with extreme squish! gonna use it for our low budget home recordings with the band. Still hold the LMB-3 in a high regard and will use it for gigs.

    I just bought it and now I kinda feel like everything I ever done on bass without this pedal over the last 31 years of playing bass is invalid! This little pedal is made of magic and miracles.

      BassRacerx A compressor is an “always on” effect for about 98% of what I do. I use a low to moderate ratio with threshold set to where just about all of my signal goes through the compressor.

    Loved it on slap. Having owned dyna comp, mxr bass comp, spectra comp, unless you are playing really percusively I personally feel having the extra dynamics between your lows and highs can be important. When playing funk I always loved the dyna comp but in my newer band in which my amp has more drive my compressors arnt even in my chain anymore. All personal taste

    The BC-1X has been on my pedalboard for a year, now, having replaced the tc electronic SpectraComp. Although the BC-1X doesn't allow you to change the attack time, and Boss doesn't tell you what it is or what the maximum compression ratio is, the BC-1X nevertheless works very well for my needs. It doesn't offer the extreme programmability of the SpectraComp, but like the SpectraComp, it's still a digital multiband compressor, and it is far more transparent than the garden variety wideband analog compressor pedals. I only wish they'd made the Release knob stacked with an Attack knob. The BB-1X Bass Driver has a stacked knob, so we know Boss has the parts. Of the bass compressors on the market, I highly recommend either the SpectraComp (provided you know how to program it) or the BC-1X (if the SpectraComp's programming is something you'd rather not deal with or you're no good at it).

    The demo was cool but!!!,..way too much “Harmonic Tones” style playing!.(imo)..in the real world 🌎 of Bass Playing,..one must be “the groover!” in a live band setting so,..more of that style should be demonstrated to show what this fine pedal can do!
    No matter what Genre,..✨🎶🎸the Bass role IS set,..and each kind of Bass has their respective flavors and that too could’ve been demo’d here as well! Guys come on!,..some short popular Bass Lines (no copyright issues) would’ve been more productive and Cool to here you guys play using the different setting of the pedal!!...just saying!
    ✌🏾😐✨🎶🎸THAT’S what will sell it!!..☝🏾

    I like the tones from this! It’s a shame it doesn’t have a way to edit the multi band parameters, or a way to add your clean signal in with it. SpectraComp has had that for years...

    • @Dannyroo08

      bc1x is better ive found

    • @gcvrsa
      @gcvrsa 5 років тому +5

      The SpectraComp is a can of worms. None of the factory provided Toneprints are anything I find useful, so IMO, if you want to use the SpectraComp at all, you have to be able to operate a digital multiband compressor that allows modification of virtually every parameter without training wheels. The advantage of course, is that it can be tailored to virtually any application, not just bass guitar.
      The BC-1X, by contrast, is set up for bass guitar, and while it does have quite the flexibility of the SpectraComp (and Hypergravity), it does sound great on bass, and in my opinion is head and shoulders above any analog wideband bass guitar compressor on the market. With the BC-1X, it's hard to get a bad sound out of it. With the SpectraComp, it's hard to get a good sound out of it.
      Luckily for me, I know how to work a SpectraComp, but for right now, my SpectraComp is being used for acoustic/electric guitar, and the BC-1X is what I use for bass guitar.

    • @AleksP1987

      The Spectracomp is the worst thing which has happened to a bass player. For me: bc-1x , mxr m87 and ampeg optocomp are the best compressors.

      Actually, its probably NOT a shame because the MDP algorithms BOSS uses work incredibly well and for many bass (guitar) players, too much control can often be problematic…also, there is A LOT goin on under the hood while your playing, all without touching a thing… one of the advantages of the MDP signal processing….
      Ive played guitar synths for years and BOSS is the first company that enabled me to use a standard pickup and cable that tracks as well, or better than the latest Roland synths that employ hexaphonic pickups and multi-pin DIN cables!
      And that blew me away!
      Having owned many boutique pedals, I have never been a huge BOSS fanboy… but they have earned my respect with their signal processing technology…. BTW, I dont have the BC-1X…. but I do have the guitar version, GC-1X…and it sounds GREAT…but with compressors it does depend on exactly what your using it for…..
      Roland/Boss is using some mighty sophisticated signal processing.., which like I said, has certainly earned my respect.
      Great day and age for guitar/bass pedals! 👍🏻

      just look up "how does an audio compressor work" on You tube.

    • @EversonBernardes
      @EversonBernardes 5 років тому +2

      It applies a certain amount of gain reduction (the ratio) once the signal gets louder than a certain point (the threshold).
      Say, when you play a note, the attack, the very beginning is very loud and then it quickly goes down during the sustain. If you set a compressor at a certain threshold level and say, a ratio of 4:1, when you play the note, as the level raises and gets past the threshold, the compressor kicks in and reduces the gain at a 4:1 ratio, meaning that for each 4 "levels" of loudness over that, it only allows 1 "level" to go through. So you get much less of a "spiky" spike, and the note gets more even in loudness, attack and sustain.

I'm using a mk II Reverend wattplower, which is an incredibly huge sounding bass on it's own. Plugged it into the BC-1X last night.. THOSE were the kind of lows that could bring down the house.
