There's no atmosphere because the sun had blown it away. That's due to the lack of a magnetosphere, because the core is no longer molten like earth. 12Music72 Fire a bunch of lasers at it, melt it and get it turning again. No joke, that was an actual proposal and it would work in theory.
That would be one hell of a powerfull laser
12Music72 I think the proposal involved like hundreds of thousands if not millions of lasers.

The other was to build factories on Mars that could use elements from the martian soil to produce methane, like Super Green House Gas factories to build up a methane atmosphere that would trap enough heat to warm the planet to the point that you could start a positive feedback loop.
But then you still don't have an active core? Hence the solar radiation, like earths magnetic field does.
12Music72 Well the idea is that if you can warm the planet enough you can melt the core and get it flowing again and get a magnetic field.
You forgot to mention those glorious solar flares & the fun things that it would do to you from Mar's lack of an atmosphere :)

I'm extremely curious to see how animals from our own planet would evolve on mars, given the low gravity and environment.
Assuming they have environment to thrive, I think they will be bigger.
Maybe they will just be more massive A.K.A. more dense. This would help shield their vital organs from radiation.
Why does everyone not mention how the gravity would impact humans.
