I started playing Taylor guitars a looong time ago…and I appreciated Bob’s and Andy’s insights about perseverance, fulfillment and making choices as it relates not only to guitars but life in general. Thanks for a great interview!
Agree. I have been playing for 4 decades and have leaned heavily on my Taylor 312CE for the last 2 of them. That said, the designs from Andy on the builders edition series and others are the best of everything.
I’ve never owned a Taylor. The shimmery Taylor sound is beautiful but it’s not for me. However, of the maybe dozen that I have played across price ranges, everyone had great playability and was very well built. I really want to like them more.
I have a 654ce and a 416ce. They are both a joy to play and sound fantastic. I had to do a neck reset on the 12 string so it always keeps a perfect action. That's the thing about Taylor, the NT neck is a perfect idea. However, in this part of the world the shims are impossible to get, I was fortunate to have an authorized Taylor luthier around (the only one in my country) who had this entire collection of shims. But Taylor should make their shims more accesible for the rest of the world. I love the Legacy series and I will be buying one of these next month when I get to Miami.
I've had many lower end and high end Taylors on my hand like Gsmini, 114ce , 214, 414ce, and now I have an AD17, I must say all play easy, IF they're neck is straight... But they're very sensitive to humidity and on most of them I had to reset the neck. I was just wondering why wouldn't Taylor include a shim set if they know that it will be needed sooner or later? I had to make my own unfortunately because the shims were not available on the other side of the world... So, i would suggest including a shim set. Furch includes a lot of things like a few spare frets, saddle wood shims, some tools...

I truly believe that Andy Powers will go down in history as one of the best damn guitar designers of all time.

Most mornings I wake up with a Taylor across by belly. I make a point of grabbing mine before I tuck in. I bought it the morning of 9/11.
Awesome interview

Fantastic interview. Just had the chance to go visit El Cajon in person, and I was not disappointed!
Yay all of my favorite guitar people!!!
