Older man here. I’m in Canada and watching all sorts of UA-cam channels for the info that’s provided. I have got to tell you how brave you are to tell everyone why you grow your allotment and how it makes you feel good. I just watched the ‘intimidation’ vlog that you did and just want to say how happy that I am that you are still able to go to your allotment and also to say how sorry I am that you were made to feel so bad by the two men staring at you. Please don’t lose hope and stay strong, I wish this sort of thing didn’t happen 😊
I have lots of green tomatoes, a few that are turning so I picked a few and more are following, I just placed them in a dish on the window sill. I also topped them and fed them.😊 we haven't had a great summer this year and we should have had a harvest of plenty by now, so your not alone honey we keep trying
I'm only able to grow 1 or 2 tomato plants un pots in the garden. Tumbling toms for a glut of cherry toms in a basket. The kids will love them. I also grow baby toms on a bush variety called Lucinda, bought in my local garden centre. It grows from 4 stems to about 6 feet with hught bunches of toms. Picked 2 full bowls of red ones already.😊
Emma i love watching your videos! has anyone ever told you that you remind them of Catherine Tate? It's one of the reasons why I watch your videos! your humor is refreshing and i love that you show your failures as well as your successes! i live in the states so i don't have the chance to get an allotment but one day i do hope to have my own garden and i'm sure mine would look just like yours when i first get started!
Just discovered and subscribed to your channel. You're doing an amazing job. I love how you are growing the pumpkins and will try your method next year.
Hi Emma you do great. Can I just suggest for next year when your runner beans get to 6 feet you pinch out the growing tips so they bush out more and stop growing taller so the growth concentrates it’s energy below for beans. 👍
Hi Emma, blueberries like ericaceous soil. Since I've put mine into a large container filled with this soil they've almost doubled in size and I've had lots of blueberries (I involuntarily shared some with the birds 🙂)
Those Jack Be Little pumpkins are really cute. I wouldn't worry about the powdery mildew on the pumpkins. Just cut off the worst affected leaves. On my squash I don't even bother doing that sometimes. The way a lot of people seem to check if pumpkins/squash are ready is just to look at the tendril close to the pumpkins stalk. If the tendril is still green then leave it. If it's going or gone brown and dry then the pumpkin/squash is ready to harvest.
Emma every year my runner beans fall over. No matter how well I construct or how much string I use (I've even tried tyre ties) once they get going we have a gust of wind from the wrong direction and the whole lot go wonky & wobbly....you are not alone
A sunny windowsill will not help the reddening of the toms, Emma. The sun plays no part in ripening - it is all down to the release of ethylene gas (you hit on it with the banana in a bag!)
Emma - you need a 3lb club hammer!! They're not expensive, easy to use, great for us girls, and they make driving stakes into the ground SOOOO MUCH easier so you can get them in more solidly. You just can't do that job with a regular hammer - which is why your structures are always so wobbly. I'm amazed at how often I use mine. Cheers from Oz!!
Hi Emma your plot is looking good, big pat on the back, I have grown dwarf runner beans called jackpot for the past 2 years, you get loads with 3 different colours of flower, saves me a lot of bother putting up frames 👍
It's normal for Blueberries to take 4 years to start producing. Give them a good ericacious feed in spring and you can give them on late autumn too and you'll hopefully get a bigger bumper crop next year
For your tomatoes, I found that my sun gold cherry ones were turning fine but my normal toms were struggling to turn. Did a bit of reading and the main thing that cropped up is temperature and not being warm enough. Mine are all in a very small poly tunnel and kept it closed up other than when I watered and voila they are turning red ❤x
For the runners I do a doble row. A row of pairs of sticks tied at the top to form a triangle with a stick as brace along the top and diagonal braces at at the sides. They are always solid and never move.
Perhaps try planting your tomatoes in pots next year, easier to regulate watering and feeding. My toms always go in pots and have more ripe toms than I know what to do with.
Hi Emma, try putting a ripe (shop bought) tomato and a banana in the polytunnel. Hopefully they will emit a chemical to tell the others to ripen. Saying that tho i still think theres time for them to ripen on their own. I also think your pumpkins are fine. The older leaves often die back to support the fresh growth 😊
Sadly one of my tomato branches snapped due to the weight of the toms, I didn’t want to lose them so popped them onto a window sill inside and the one red one that was on there is defo helping the others turn red x
Hi Emma apparently they don’t go red if you feed. I took loads of a plant that got blossom end rot and put them in a cardboard box with a banana. The whole lot went a gorgeous red over two weeks!
Bungees are the best! They've saved me multiple times haha I did my tomatoes outside this year and they worked much better! I don't think we've had enough sun for them this year though
I don't have a plot but have a pretty good sized garden so I grow here at home. None of the allotments around here are suitable for a powerchair sadly 😔 I love your videos, thankyou so much 🎉
Me, I go over the top with my structures… they will still be there 20 years from now 😂 it’s comforting to have those at least when the plants growing on them are disappointing. I cut back my grapes in February, so almost no fruit this year. Blueberry harvest was kinda sad too. But my tomatoes are nice and red! And my cucumbers did great too. I’m mostly cutting back huge plants like magnolia and laurel cherry and keeping my hedges in check at the moment. Not a lot of flowers left, the rains came too late for them mostly. I’ll take down some I do still have on my balcony at home. Zinnias are doing great :) Have a nice holiday!
Would the beans be better on a tripod of canes ..less likely to blow over ? Only an idea 😊😊 Also are the tomatoes getting enough sun the green cover is shading them ..maybe
Lovely plot and gorgeous pumpkins..so cute! I heard hear ripens tomatoes so you could close your ploytunnel door to retain it? Building a wigwam is better for runners too but your bungee cord should hold it for a bit. Happy plotting x🌻🥦🌞🥕
Hi Emma, I learnt this year, that if you pinch the top of the runner beans at the height you want the growth goes into the beans not the height of the plant xx
Hey Emma, on your tomatoes, if you pick them green, and slice them to about a 1/4 inch and fry them like you would an eggplant. You will never grow another eggplant again. They taste wonderful. I must say, your garden looks wonderful.
Hi Emma, im up in Cumbria and have outdoor tomatoes which are mostly green. Those that do go red i have to race the slugs to get to them. I do verymuch enjoy your videos, my style of belt and braces gardening! I do have a glut of sweetcorn though, it's one a day for the foreseeable future!
When you’re on holiday could you please post playlists of previous years on the same month it will help with my withdrawal symptoms. I am enjoying my first year on my plot, I use the bungee straps to hold the boot of my car closed when I’ve been to the garden centre! Xx
Bananas didn’t work for me made no difference but if they have just started to get a slightly lighter green then they will ripen on windowsill if they very green they will stay green if picked
I read something a few weeks ago suggesting to cut the tops off bean plants once they reach the tops of your support structure. This causes them to bush out as well as keeping the plants manageable. I started doing it about a month ago. Can't say I've noticed the plants become massively more bushy but have had more beans than we can eat and it has kept the plants tidy so I'm going to continue doing that next year. When do you start your tomatoes by the way? Maybe you need to sow your seeds a bit earlier. I start mine mid March and keep them on a sunny windowsill until early June.
I know this is an older video but I had to pick loads of my tomatoes green because we had a frost coming early. I didn't expect them to turn but every one did. I was really surprised and happy! I had them spread out on a six foot long table next to big windows.
Honestly to god you can place a banana on the plant itself without removing the tomatoes and itll do the same thing! My friend's currently doing it with hers that have failed to turn and within a day they had started to turn. Have faith in the banana. Its a chemical they give off thats the same as tomatoes. So they think other tomatoes around them are ripening and sets it off naturally on the plant.
U should cut any leaves of that are effect on any plant. It can stop the spreading. 😊. Happy holidays. If u have two blueberries, they will give more fruit. I only got a few blueberries this year but they were gorgeous. I only got them this year. I know you only need one but honestly two are much better. I did have one years ago and never got much even when it was age 5 😊

Came for the gardening, stayed for the chaos. This is my kind of gardening.

This is your BEST video... perhaps the most fun gardening video i have seen.... i love your authentic love for your plot 🐝🐝🐝

It was great, thank you for your hard work dear friend for this great entertaining movie💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are an absolute breath of fresh air x
Hi Emma, blueberries like ericaceous soil. Since I've put mine into a large container filled with this soil they've almost doubled in size and I've had lots of blueberries (I involuntarily shared some with the birds 🙂)
I was about to say the same thing. Also only use ericaceous plant food. You'll have an abundance of fruit next year.
they love the more acidic soil, spuds are the same.
Another great video and another great super nice gardener

Emma your meant to chop the ends off those beans when they reach the top of your pole then they sprout more sideshoots .
I thought it was just me that talked to the insects..🐝🦋🤣 like they're actually listening..bit like talking to kids sometimes 💚x
Oh no, I talk to everything! I even talk to my polytunnel sometimes! 😂😂
Sweet cherry pie Angel love you keep it up !! 🍒😁
It’s always balmy on the isle of denial😁. Smile on Emma!
Fab vlog Emma fingers crossed the toms go red for you 🥰
For your tomatoes, I found that my sun gold cherry ones were turning fine but my normal toms were struggling to turn. Ah good plan, I didn’t even think of this! Thank you x
Indeed blueberries are delicious from the bush.
Look forward to next year's cropi😋
Your face when you eat the blueberries 🫐. I would suggest putting your blueberry in a pot with ericaceous compost
For the runners I do a doble row. A row of pairs of sticks tied at the top to form a triangle with a stick as brace along the top and diagonal braces at at the sides. They are always solid and never move.
Hi hope you and your family have a fantastic holiday

I recommend growing marigolds in the poly tunnel to combat white fly. We had really bad issues until we try it - now do it every year and no issues :)
hi Emma try and build your runner bean structure like a wigwam xx and a bar across the top it will be more stable i just like your vids keep going
Bungees are the best! They've saved me multiple times haha I did my tomatoes outside this year and they worked much better! I don't think we've had enough sun for them this year though
hands down emma wow coz i thought those beans where doomed lol xx
Enjoy watching your videos your so funny 😂
I got green tomatoes and all my mates lol
Put banana skins around the roots to help them ripen
My honeynut squash leaves are looking like your pumpkin leaves. It's spider mites. 😞
Take some of the leaves of the bottom off as well.
My runner beans have gone cray this year tooxx
You can cut the bad ones then make a spray of peroxide and water. I do it for my squah/ zucchini. It helps
Oh thank you!
Just done my çompost bin for next year
I don't have a plot but have a pretty good sized garden so I grow here at home. None of the allotments around here are suitable for a powerchair sadly 😔 I love your videos, thankyou so much 🎉
I'm no expert but I sprayed my French beans with soapy water because they had black fly it worked. Maybe it will work with your white bugs ❤
Ooh, ok! I’ve heard soapy water is good for removing lots of bugs actually so maybe it will work! Thanks x
Normally in a brown paper bag and on a windowsill makes them go red as well x
Luv your pumpkins and your arch 🎃🎃
Hey thanks for sharing your experience in the plot what an amazing garden 🪴
Your corn look ready to pick
Nice video beutiful

Hi Emma, try keeping some Basil, French Marigolds And Cives in your poly tunnel, Aphids and white fly don't like the smell of them.
Would the beans be better on a tripod of canes ..less likely to blow over ? Only an idea 😊😊 Also are the tomatoes getting enough sun the green cover is shading them ..maybe
My tomatoes are the same and I have tried everything 🙈
Thank you Emma l love your allotment and l love blueberry too and loving the pumpkins too xx
Chop the top of your runner beans will help love the videos 😊
Awesome allotment xxx
Where are all the leaves on your blueberry bush? Feed it ericacious compost that’s what blueberries need
My tomatoes are green aswell, just leave them they will come good.Good job you ate the blueberries or the pigeons will.
Haha! That’s what I was thinking! X
That’s a great idea thanks!
Chop the top off the runner beans. You did it to the tomatoes, so it's only fair!
Love the pumpkin arch - where did you find the arch ?
Hi Emma, I learnt this year, that if you pinch the top of the runner beans at the height you want the growth goes into the beans not the height of the plant xx
Hey Emma, on your tomatoes, if you pick them green, and slice them to about a 1/4 inch and fry them like you would an eggplant. You will never grow another eggplant again. They taste wonderful.

I do have a glut of sweetcorn though, it's one a day for the foreseeable future!
Try picking them and putting in a cardboard box with a banana. I now have glorious red tomatoes here in gloomy wet North Yorkshire 😊
Just ate my first Red tomato, delish

Bananas didn’t work for me made no difference but if they have just started to get a slightly lighter green then they will ripen on windowsill if they very green they will stay green if picked
Pigeons gobble up seedlings and will pick pea seeds out, devastate brassica, lettuce etc.
Try growing latah or ailsa craig tomatoes next year, they should ripen quicker, it's worth a try 🤞🏻
Great shout, thanks! X
Brilliant

My tomatoes aren't going red either, so you're not the only one :-)
It may be an idea to pick the wee pumpkins Emma, or they may be rock hard.
Recipe: Multple weeds. Ingredients: sun, lots of rain. Method: Minimal, leave plot for a couple of days and return to see the results!
My experience is that the tomato needs to start to blush first then it can be picked to ripen. Green tomatoes don’t turn red after picking. Good luck.
I know this is an older video but I had to pick loads of my tomatoes green because we had a frost coming early. I didn't expect them to turn but every one did. I was really surprised and happy! I had them spread out on a six foot long table next to big windows.
I talk to my bumble bees the butterflies, birds and my plants. It seems to work...
I've said goodbye to the fence.

Did you sow your californian poppies? Any tips?
I just scattered the seeds about a year ago and they keep coming up every year now! X
I think I’ve heard put banana skins in your polytunnel

Blond British Sasquatch spotted eating Blueberries 🫐 😅
In a box with banana
Eat them all, you deserve them
