Voice Impressions by James Arnold Taylor

- James Arnold Taylor is one of Hollywood's most prolific Voice-Actors today and doubles for many celebrities in film, TV, video games and animation.
This clip is from James' stage show "Talking to Myself" performed at Disney World's Hollywood Studios during Star Wars Weekends 2011 at the Premiere theater in front of an audience of about 700 people. In this clip James links 95 different celebrities and cartoon characters showing the similarities beginning with his own voice. - Розваги
It's not so much about the PERFECTION of these voices as much as it's about how similar he can make them sound as he transitions from character to character. He was making a point about how his voice can adapt to pick up on the subtleties between celebrities. No, he's not going to be perfect. You can't do 95 impressions without at least ONE of them sounding lackluster. That's the nature of impressionism.
JAT is a fantastic voice-actor, and he's actually one of the few voiceover artists who got me interested in the craft. And I feel bad for him, because he's ridiculously ambitious, disciplined, and organized (let's see YOU try to change voices on a time WHILE ALSO following along with a strictly choreographed slideshow animation), and has talent on top of that. He really moved me as Tidus from Final Fantasy X and as I started to hear him in more things, I was inspired to pursue voice-acting as a career. He really was blessed with stupendous vocal chords and I think a lot of the critical comments below are just negative people nitpicking because they aren't able to grasp the level of talent necessary to pull this kind of act off.
Not sure how often you check your comments, James, but I'm blown away at how well-organized this was. Would love to see more posts from you about voices and any insight you have. :)
I totally agree. Also his Marty McFly is spot on.
Blizzquake His Emmett Brown though.
Blizzquake Not really.
ChaseFace Why is that noteworthy? Seems sort of like ppl are reacting because they recognize the subject of each attempt. I feel like I'm shitting on the guy, but I'm really not. He's fine. I just see comments where ppl are blown away and want to show them Kevin Pollack's old HBO special.
ChaseFace because of ppl like him and ray chase and robbie daymond,im very inspired to pursue acting as career they are truly amazing and respectable ppl
Your range is so good!
One of these days I would love to hire you.
I love this so much!
I find your lack of Ewan Mcgregor impressions.....disturbing.
You Tube that's what I'm saying!
Hello there!
And Sir Alec Guiness as well
He covered them in other parts in the more in depth
It's an impression we cannot afford to lose
Some of these are a bit off, but people give him too little credit. A lot of these are pretty much spot on.
Some are spot on, some are off. I bet you can't find anyone who has his range though.
Alex Jones man what u doing hiding in these comments? Thought u was kicked off UA-cam?
Billy West, maybe?
This guy is amazing with the speed he changes from voice to voice. Everyone saying he missed some of them, my gosh did you not see how fast he was changing from one to the other, gosh to show you someone is going to find something wrong with everything.
Sure it was great that he was able to do so many so fast... but most were off, and pretty terrible. So he should slow it down, and do things right. Because, if the pictures were not up there you'd have no idea on 99% of them.
more like 80% i agree tho
Pay no attention to those a-holes....they're talentless. This dude is beyond amazing! One of the best in the biz actually.
Chris jT He's not one of the best in the biz. Sorry.
razorbackfan that's exactly what he was trying to demonstrate. He had to change and alter his voice 90+ times in 5 mins. Of course they're not going to be spot on because 1) they're impressions and 2) he was altering or changing his voice every 2-3 seconds. Everyone should try doing that. Easier said than done, I bet.
I dunno what people are complaining about, this guy is amazing!!
Luc Fox i really loved when he did snagglepus.
+demonpride1975 i really loved when he did... EVERYONE :)
+Luc Fox The complaints are probably due to accuracy. While he's a great talent, his impressions are simply lackluster.
Silverjerk i thought they were all fantastic
A few need more work but other than that they are great
There are more comments about how many hate comments there are than there are actual hate comments
Stop hating on hate comments
I haven't even seen any hate comments.
Yeah. I hate that.
RIGHT!!
Scroll down for a bit and you'll find a truckload of hate comments
Some weren't on point and some just noises, but the speed, the amount of good ones, and the fluidity of it all was incredible
Well, they are called "impressions" because he sounds similar to, if not exactly like, the person/thing he's voicing.
Reks Ratsbane that's the point. Everyone should try doing it and change their voice within 1-2 seconds. Easier said than done.
Very impressive. He did miss a few or were so quick it was hard to pick up. It's impossible to be spot on with all of them with the range he went through. Every impressionist has some that are stronger than others. Still amazing.
The fact that it’s so accurate and the sheer speed of each voice transition is truly amazing
You guys are jokers. This guy rocks and he's right. He's only giving you an IMPRESSION of each of these characters/actors, not an in-depth performance of them. Fwiw, I'm an actor and I love to criticize the shit out of every actor and actress but this guy deserves a lot of kudos...
Alex Gonzalez if people think criticizing is 'cool', they're simply idiots
Jeb Atman I'm a very big fan of his work
@@jebatman756 there is a difference between critizicm and being a dick. Most of the comments are not criticizing, but instead are being dicks
Jeb Atman a nonsuccessful actor tho lol
This must be a Guinness world Record.
I'm sorry but no... ua-cam.com/video/TPhsON-DUYQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=funnyordieUK
i like how people judge him like as if they could come close to half the talent he has.
You don't have to be a master cook to critique food
@@warblenoise if the point of the criticism is to make yourself seem superior like most of these people commenting here have done, it isn't a matter of whether you are a master or not, you still sound like a douchebag
Just because one can't build a chair doesn't mean that one can't know if a chair is broken.
He was ok. Some were good, some honestly weren't that great.
I may not be able to do better, but I also haven't claimed I could, nor did I go on stage to show off a talent that I'm mediocre at.
*_Looks like Bill Hader beating Andy Samberg's impression record isn't so impressive anymore_*
Amazing talent! Thanks for everything James!
absolutely amazing...not everyone was spot on but damn look how fast he switches between them.
give him 2 or 3 minutes for each of these and he would be so spot on. but nonetheless truly amazing!!!
too many haters in the comments lol I bet none of y'all can come close to what he did.
Imani Smith
I'm actually a voice actor, my job is to fill in for other voice actors when there not available on set and he actually is going out of voice range and he should know exactly what he's capable of
So that means no one is allowed to have an opinion?
Sorry that half of his voices were off....
Imani Smith "i bet none of ya'll can come close to what he did" dumb bitch commenting things that fucking kids would say. As the general consensus, it is not our job to entertain. We simply experience and react. Movie critiques don't make films. They critique. Commentators speaking for great athletes will probably never reach their height of extra ordinance. So there is absolutely no need for us to be competing with this man. We can hate him all we want cos truth be told, without a reaction entertainers will be lifeless in their craft.
+FAULTYCLONE001 You fucking hypocrite. only a child would call someone a dumb bitch 💀 How about you go fuck yourself and leave me alone because you're fucking irrelevant. No one gives a fuck about what u have to say. I hate people that think they know everything and try to get other people down and try to make them feel stupid.. like seriously fuck off.
Imani Smith true dat. True dat
Really should've chucked a Tidus laugh in the middle somewhere for shits and giggles! :D
He's don't more then the laugh ya know! :P
I know, I know! Tidus also said "This is my story!"
Michael Edwards p
he was coming close to George Carlin
Michael Edwards
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
why is star wars music playing in the backround?
'Star' wars
It’s the Rogue One Extra background music
These were great,. I don't see why anyone would bother with saying that not all of them were 100% accurate because not only did he go through 95 different voices in under 10 minutes, but it's because of that that he wasn't able to be *100%* accurate. You need to have a little time to get completely into character to do them perfectly. He went through them quickly but even so he did them so well that if you knew who the voices belong to, you'd know who he was doing right away.
Even professional voice actors who do a certain voice all the time need to go through at least a little preparation to get into character before doing some recording. Many professional athletes have a similar thing where they do a little routine before going out and doing what they're best at. Give the man some credit and acknowledge his talent before you nitpick about how not every voice was 100% accurate. Since, again, he did *95* voices in a row in under 10 minutes and took no breaks between any of them.
What the hell was this guy thinking with Shia? Haha what?
Shia was perfect
I was here for this and it was so cool. He did all the Family Guy voices at the start and it was cool and then they did a live reading from the Clone Wars show. Sucks they don't do it anymore.
Come back so many times to watch this over the years. Someone give that man an Oscar
Well this was shit
beatledjb1 Because I know I can't do them so I don't post a shitty ass video like this guy. Don't like my honesty? Then fuck off.
stereotypicallygay At least he can do it better than you and has potential.
beatledjb1 no.. not even. lol I'm not the only one ho thinks this is shit so I don't know why you're arguing with me.
sepi666neo Y'know for a ten year old that's actually a pretty good comeback. Good job. :)
sepi666neo It's FuckTARD not FuckTURD. Just saying. :)
That looked incredibly difficult, and seems like it probably took ages to organize, memorize and rehearse. Delightful demonstration. My hat's off to you, sir.
Damn that’s one tough act to follow. He nailed some of them, but the idea of bridging voices from one character to the next was a brilliant idea.
So good at very short transition, no one dies it like JAT!!!!
Wow, a little off to start but once he gets going it's rapid fire! Awesome stuff, James! Thanks for sharing this with all of us, sir.
Awesome to watch. Easy to see how he makes a living from it. 3:50 The way he went from John Wayne to Sylvester Stallone to Jeff Goldbloom just by making noises was brilliant. If the pictures of those people hadn't been there then maybe you would have struggled to hear them but this guy really knows his craft.
Those who don't have these skills/ talents might want to consider that what you SEE is only the tip of the iceberg vis à vis voice-acting. What he illustrates here, is the ability some of us possess to change voices and characters on the fly. I've done similar showcases, mostly to show potential voice students my acumen and their own potential in the craft. I would also like to have seen longer pieces, but given the time constraints and venue, it's quite entertaining, and well-done. Realize that when we're in front of a mic for an extended time for a recorded show, we are MUCH more able to access the nuances of the character voices to bring them to less one-lined, and total fruition. Bravo, James Arnold Taylor! Continued success, and I look forward to playing /working with you on the mic, someday soon. ~G2
Again this is why I love James Arnold Taylor, he's a REALLY good voice actor!!
It's stuff like this that gives so much respect for what these people do
James Arnold Taylor is so creative, flexible in his voice control and projection.
He is brilliant.
I was at this show. Glad I could find this clip again. Remembered it all these years later
I've been doing Impressions my whole life . I'm glad to see someone has studied it this in depth ! truly awesome and inspiring!!!! thanks
:-)
even if not all were spot on this guys transitions and comedic value are awesome... keep it up dude
I've seen this so many times and it always gets me, you are a legend sir. Keep doing what you do best.
This is one of my all time favorite voice impression videos and I have seen many.
I don't care what anyone says, this guy is awesome. You're an inspiration, James!!!
Dude you're freaking insanely awesome!
man, you are AMAZING!!!!! keep up the fantastic work !!
The skill this takes is just something else, the tonal and accent shifts, most impressive.
This was hilarious, keep up the good work :)
And This is why this guy is one of my favorite actors, EVER.
OMG! That was flipping amazing. All those impressions, so close together, and tied into each other in a hilarious fassion. I wanted to laugh but couldn't because I was so glued to the performance, and if I laughed I'd miss one.
This is so amazing!! Awesome job!
His Janet Reno impression was spot on! "Hello I'm Janet Reno." Lol!!! 4:33
Most of those were spot-on. Good job.
wow James is one hell of a voice actor he's amazing at all the voices :) I'm speechless watching
The ladder of voice representative artistry. .wonderful.
What I found most amazing is not "good" or "bad" he was in the precise remake of the voice, but the way he was able to shift so fast between so many different ones. That takes amazing skill.
This is incredible. I didn't know he was this talented!
I have been doing voices my whole life and I just began to try to pursue it to some extent and this is just great!
Absolutely amazing!
I didn't want this to end
Awesome performance! 👌🏼
And it’s so fast paced that you need to watch it again! 😄 Wow!
This is so good but what else should I expect from such a talented VA
This guy is amazing. He would be a huge success at kids' parties, doing all those cartoon voices.
This guy is amazing, he perfected them all
Wow! I think this was so amazing! I don't understand why "everyone" hated his impressions. It's pretty hard to do so many different voices and so many voice impressions was spot on imo. Okay I gotta admit that there were few voices that wasn't that good but still I respect his acting.
absolutely amazing talent, accuracy in understanding all those differences, truly amazing and you're so young
That was great especially how he just flowed from one to the other.
This made me smile:) This is the most amazing thing ever oh my god
They're not all perfect, but most are damn close! And the change-ups and especially the logical progression are amazing.
That was incredible!
That was awesome. Must be something hearing it live.
Anyone who can work a Hong Kong Phooey reference into their bit has my vote.
Absolutely amazing.
Absolutely brilliant
This man is beyond talented, Troy Baker and Nolan North can eat their hearts out ❤
Ever since you did the voice of Tidus, you have been my fave voice actor. Also love how you did the voice of Iceman in Xmen Legends 2: Apocalypse.
Most of those voices where spot on.
This genius also voiced tidus from final fantasy ten. It's not how much he sounds like them, it's how hee imitated them his way. He still sounded like them and his vast ability to do thousands of voices makes Him one of The best.
Mr Taylor you never cease to amaze me.
His mom said he could become anything but he misheard and became everything
He just giving an impression, and also one person can't be perfect at every single impression they do
This man is every man, at any given time. What a talent!
Any impersonator that needs to show a picture of, or verbally introduce, the focus of the impression, then you're blowing it.
Outside of some absolute A-listers most people struggle to recall what does the focus of impression even look like, let alone what does that person sounds like, dude.
I love voice actors. They're fucking wonderful
Even if he isn't good at all the impression, the fact that he was able to transition between all of them in just 5 minutes and the range of his voice and pitch and sounds are quite impressive! Yes, maybe his impressions were off, but he went through A LOT of celebrities in just 5 minutes and that to me is impressive
That was awesome!
Gotdamn, the speed he changed voices with out hesitation.
Wow. I'm impressed with the number of them. Did he hit every one of them perfectly no. Was it unbelievable how many he did? Hell yes. This was really neat to watch to here. Really cool video
This guy is awesome. Who knew he did so many voices like Ratchet and Johnny Test. I find him so cool.
This is my story.
The range of the voices is more impressive than the accuracy of the impressions.
that was simply amazing
Best thing I’ve ever watched
Wonderful.
People be hating on this man but I assure you the people hating couldn’t get even one impression he had on that screen right or piss their pants trying to do that as fast as he did in front of a live audience.
OH MY GOD THAT WAS FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
NAILED IT
That was amazing
That was very much worth my time
This guy's good, the speed with which he changes voices is impressive too
Just amazing. Great talent.
Wow, yr the best James. Newbie fan 😁
