Wow, I like thin mechanical watches. The Maen website is saying it will be 6.9mm thick. The ETA 7001 movement is just 2.5mm thick, which is pretty good. For comparison, I have a Cartier Santos-Dumont that is like 7.6mm thick and uses a Piaget ultra-thin hand wind movement. The Cartier was also ~$8,800. This is a very compelling offering from Maen!
Personally I think the 37 is more classically proportioned, thin enough, maintains the running seconds and benefits from the convenience of automatic winding. I gifted mine to my brother but I’ll be picking up a replacement soon enough.
Very cool! Love what Maen are doing, I really need to get one soon. With this one I’d definitely prefer having a seconds hand, especially since it’s a manual wind watch - it would help a lot to be able to tell whether the watch is still running. I think for this model I’d still go with the 37, but I’m happy that they made this watch as another option
@@ulifluhmeI like knowing whether the watch is running or not. Saves cross checking the time every single time you put the thing on. Being manual wind with no power reserve this is even more important, IMO.
Coming out of the age of oversized watches, i quite liked the 37mm. There's a lot of 40mm intergrated sport watches out there, so it was a good point of difference and suits the vintage design imo. I havent handled the watches though.
As always, top quality video detailing the beauty, specs and comparison very well! The thinness and the lower weight are really attractive. Can see huge difference when compared side to side. thank you!
I had a 36mm Stowa marine classic with small seconds and i believe it used an ETA 7001. And, it was really thin, too. I believe it was 8.5mm. As such, are u sure Maen didn't just remove the small seconds from this design? As someone also commented, this might look damn good woth a small seconds as well as give back the dynamic look of a visible running seconds hand. Perhaps it was removed to keep the hand stack lower and thus the overall thickness under 8mm.
Yes, the ETA 7001 is a small seconds movement, so Maen made the conscious decision to not include it. I imagine it was either for aesthetics to match the previous version or for thinness.
You've become the micro brand whisperer. I agree, as I usually do, with your critique of the watches. Even with a bigger octagonal shaped crown it's not a great choice for a manual wind and lack of a seconds hand, meh. I think they are going for a Genta/Cartier mashup. I also wonder why they use NYC borough/river references in the collection names, the company is based in Stockholm. 🤔
I would have preferred a screw down crown and getting rid of the ghost position on the no-dates over a new case size and hand wound movements. Also an integrated rubber and/or leather strap option.
I like this a lot, I think with the display caseback it'll be elevated nicely as you say. I don't mind the lack of a seconds hand. I think this watch will do well, cheers Peter. 🙂🍺
Without second hand? Why not quartz? I really don't understand automatic watches without second hand. I love sweeping hands... Love your content! Best regards from PL ;)
What's worse, is that movement does have a second hand. Maen chose to leave it out. And since it is small seconds at 6 o'clock, they could have included a sub-dial without adding any thickness to the watch.
This update looks excellent! Super impressive thinness and a great enhancement from the original. Thanks for sharing and phenomenally presented, though it's no surprise 🥂
@@PeterKotsa The thinness reminds me of the Zelos Nova (it's thicker, but only because of the box edge crystal), which also has a 7001. That's one of my go-to watches (I have three) and favorites to wear. There's something special about wearing a well done, super thin watch.

No seconds hand means no second look. Pity as I was reaching for my wallet...
Yeah everything else is really well executed here..
Still like the 37 better.
Patek Philip new😂
I prefer the 37mm.
yeah, it's cool that it's so thin, but no seconds hand and no hacking? So you're just resigned to the fact that the time your timepiece is showing will never be accurate. Curious decision.
I ordered GMT Hudson ...not impressed...too small and hard to see the skinny hands.
A lovely looking watch..... if only they could design a 44 mm . ETA does make a mechanism that would fit 😢
I was waiting for that comment. If they make one in 44mm, you have the next guy asking for one in 50mm. Or perhaps wall clock size 🙂
@heiner71 well mate that would me 😀
What can I say... I love big well designed watches.... if only they would make them and I could afford them ... the world would be a nicer place 😀😃🙂🙃😊
personally i will never buy a watch that is a copy or homage. it shows lack of taste big time. its the same as a pontiac fiero with a lambo body kit.
No Seconds hand, No Thank you.
I'd rather buy a super rep Nautilus for less. Thanks for presenting!
Way overpriced for an ETA manual wind with no date or seconds.
Im gonna be honest, Pete
I'm getting mighty tired of exposition casebacks
Hate that brand logo
€1,059.00 :((
