Threads has actually gotten quite lively as of late. I've really enjoyed how much friendlier the interaction is there and what's cool is that my engagement is often nearly as good as it was on Twitter already with fewer followers. It feels like the early days of Twitter, minus the insufferable trolls.

There are several things in this that had I been a normal consumer, I'd have been disappointed to not be told about before buying this thing. You're going to have a really hard time convincing me that less detail, less information is better when making a $1500 purchase.

Regarding the Open, the average consumer may be worried about the lack of wireless charging, timely software updates, customer service, customer support and issues with hardware warranty. Just general things. I've literally never heard 1 person outside of UA-cam discuss software inconsistencies in animations or transitions. The only complaints regular people have regarding software, other than lack of updates (even that is rare) is if whatever device is lacking a feature that another device has. I'm not trying to be argumentative or overly critical. Just having a discussion.
The reason you can’t put more than 4 apps is because you can’t put more than 4 apps on the cover screen. Is this a good reason? NO, absolutely not. They need to change this immediately (and give us the option to have two different home screens like Samsung, perhaps give us one 3rd party launcher for the cover screen and another, different one for the open screen!)

The Open is an impressive first gen foldable, however I am holding out to see what Samsung has next in foldables and Google as well, although to a lesser degree.
Nowadays I understand why the form factor of the fold 5, it's really better for 16:9 content (smaller black bars and same real screen viewing space) but it's smaller when close.
The one thing holding me back from buying a OnePlus Open is the fact it doesn't have a Samsung Dex equivalent. My Surface Duo 2 is better at that than the OnePlus Open's janky unusable version. As for 2:26, I hate animations on my phones. I always go into developer options and completely turn them off as they make phones feel slower. So this doesn't really affect me at all.
As an Open owner, I recognize many of these bugs. They're mostly minor annoyances but they persist while there is no need for it. One annoyance I'd like to add is that you can't select your home page from the pages in the launcher. Going home always brings you to the first page. On Samsung you can select the middle pages and have 2-3 pages with widgets on each side (eg separating work and private apps). Since you can't do that on the Open, and I don't want to swipe 6 pages to the right past private stuff to get to work stuff, I've now limited my amount of widgets and reduced their size. In fact, recently I've added a second launcher and an app to switch launchers just to separate work and private stuff.
A lot of people that have never used more than on device from only one OEM will never notice all the faults. The part that bugs me the most is they tend to then protect the OEMs in online discourse against those that do realize the faults. For example, i have yet to see any tech youtuber acknowledge how bad the front display typing experience and all other OnePlus devices are due to the aggressive edge detection and rejection in part due to the curved edges. Despite the Open having flat displays, it still rejects edge detection. Its the sole reason i sold my Open.
Also when I need to take a picture I need to open to take better pictures when you take the pictures with the phone closed is crap the resolution and that is very frustrating for me the rest is perfect
The biggest problems are it's impossible to find a decent case, there's no wireless charging, widescreen content does not benefit from a square display, and the camera bump is absurd. It's a great device though.
When I'm texting someone with the Open open and you scroll up and down to read messages the message board will stop and flutter back and forth. It will stop scrolling down, so I have to reopen my messages. It's annoying the piss out of me because it happens pretty much every time. 😢
I'm a brand new owner of this device and its awesome! However, what i miss from my iphone experience is a global search functionality. For example I don't know how to find my excel spreadsheet by its name. Instead, I need to open M365 app and find it there...
My two cents with my OPO... Inconsistent cellular quality, over heating while using hotspot and Android Auto, hotspot failing to work, random overheating during lite use with no discernable app causing it, back and home gestures not registering, the screen not being anywhere close the advertised brightness, notifications not showing or appearing well after other devices have received them, poor microphone reception for calls, GPS location inconsistency in maps....to name a few of the things ive experienced. Love the phone but definitely needs some hard polish.
I was constantly getting dropped calls and it was really bothering me, I take a lot of calls for work so I couldn't take it anymore. Tried out the pixel fold but now I'm going with the s24 ultra. Gonna wait for something new in the folding market
6:35 I'd say this is probably my biggest annoyance with the Open. I love this phone; it's an amazing device, but I upgraded to the Open from my previous phone, being my 3-year-old Galaxy Z Fold2, and even my older Fold2 got an update that allowed for a static taskbar with up to 6 apps on it that was always at the bottom of the screen. 6 would be acceptable, but there's clearly more than enough room for 8 icons on the home row, so if you get rid of the other default options, you *SHOULD* be able to set any 8 apps you want there... I'd love to see this fixed in a future update.
Love the multitasking abilities but yeah the multitasking bugs bother me as well. One thing that bothers me more than anything is having settings for a stylus support but never selling it. I even contacted OnePlus support about it and they were surprised to even know there are settings for it within the phone! 🤦🏼
I have a strange bug with scrolling, i wonder if anyone had something like that: with some apps, (while on the outer screen) when i scroll it would suddenly jump to scroll all the way down. sometimes will scroll up. it doesn't happen all the time or on all apps, but even on chrome it does, just when i almost finish scrolling and releasing the finger it will suddenly fast scroll way down to somewhere at the bottom. colors os 14 didn't fix it. removing the plastic screen protector from outer screen didn't as well. no issue when scrolling on the inner big screen though.
I've mentioned before in a previous video of yours. But the dust and grain that still get into the hinge on foldables is a deal breaker for me. With the Fold 4 you could hear crunching with the bristles and the Open I was constantly trying to clean the spine
@@eriktred if material science can work towards a closed hinge, some kind of durable elastic that can stretch and contract many multiple times and just seal the entire device I might come back. I love foldables, but I don't love worrying while using them
When I open the wallet cover it shows the switch for vibrate, ring, or silent. It is annoying I want to see my always on display. I know my switch setting, and it is slow to proceed to aod.
I really prefer the galaxy z fold 4 inner screen crease vs the open I have now. The opens crease feels like it's moving and makes little plasticy noises. Also trying to type on keyboard gaming is a pain sometimes. Other small random bugs like short screen freezing etc, but that's normal. It's the crease that has surprisingly disappointed me more than anything. It doesn't feel satisfying or as secure as the fold 4 I had. Still the best foldable tho
For the closing all apps but the open one, that is universal across oxygenOS and the OnePlus system. My N20 does the same thing. It's a bit annoying but it's closing only what the OS "needs" to optimize ram.
The biggest problem is the way it handles multi-tasking. It is not as good as samsung's offering and yet oneplus is getting positive reviews by everyone on youtube. It can not even hold youtube videos while at the same time while scrolling reddit in top-bottom view
I'm sure there are specific things like you're mentioning that Samsung handles better. Ultimately, it's going to come down to whether or not you do those specific things. By and large, I find them to be pretty similar, but the open has an open canvas which is definitely nice.
Does anyone know if theres a fix for when you answer the phone but you need to go in and change it to speaker on a drop down menu ?? Thats pretty annoying?
I need oneplus to allow us to create folders on the Smart Side bar like samsung does. I create a lot of folders and it takes up a lot of space on my screen. Also, oneplus UI is very boring. I wish they could have folder covers like Nothing has. To keep it private i guess you could say.
OnePlus Open seems to be the best replacement for my DUO2. I'll hold out and see what the Pixel Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 look like. I'm just trying to move around with the form factor differences

I have a couple of annoyances. 1st, when notifications decide to dismiss. I'll get a text/email/etc. and go to the app but the notification will stay in the shade even after I open the app. I have to dismiss from the notification. 2nd, I have this weird bug that if I'm listening to anything and open a game or something similar, it will cut whatever I'm listening to for 2secs. 3rd, at times the swipe and hold for multitasking won't work.

Waiting for the full ROM to pop up in the Oxygen Updater to try. In the meantime, the only downside is double click power to open the camera being gone.

It’s annoying because it keeps coming up on the screen. I’ve got over 70 alerts this morning for the same alert. Which I’ve also shut off the emergency alerts and it still comes in. Hopefully it gets fixed because I want to receive emergency alerts. It is good for awareness on situation around my area. This the first alert I got after the OS 14 update NA.
Update - It think I found a way that stopped it. The same alert came in every 4 to 6 minutes since 7am this morning. I went to developer option - running services - wireless emergency alerts and stopped it from there. Looks like the same continuous alert has stopped for now.
@@scaryifliteral I only ask because I've been on Verizon for like the last 25 years and I have been with Samsung since the Note 6. Since Verizon is a CDMA network it just seems like all the good phones are coming out on a GSM network. So I'm trying to decide if I want to try the pixel fold two when it comes out or just transfer to T-Mobile and maybe go for the honor magic 2 global or OnePlus open since they run on the gsm network. I just always stayed with Samsung because I have three repair shops where I live. What do you think should I give the pixel phone to a try before I go changing networks??

Since Verizon is a CDMA network, I've been thinking of going to T Mobile since alot of the "better" foldables seem to be on the GSM NETWORK, HONOR V2 GLOBAL, ONE PLUS OPEN... I'm just a little nervous because Verizon has been awesome for service in all my travels across the United States. Plus I have 3 Samsung repair places close by for my Galaxy Fold 4 which I use for my business. I'm just very disappointed in how Samsung is listening to its customers. Dunno if its just me? But if i split screen threads with any other app in tablet mode? I lose the ability to rethread after a few minutes. And quote threading requires me to long press the rethread button. ANNOYING.
Here's 2 more annoyances to add : - The OS kept prompting you to optimize battery usage for specific apps even if you've already set it to "Don't Optimize" - In the notification list, you cannot "snooze" an individual notification like you can in Samsung's One UI. The only option available on certain notifications is to silence the entire app for the duration that you specify instead of just snoozing 1 specific notification from that app that is currently in the list of notifications
the only thing that I don't appreciate about folds in general for now is that even when open for multimedia content they have a smaller useful screen than a traditional smartphone

My main complaints are that many times I want to close a window form the recent apps but it register it as clicking outside and thus exiting the recent apps. The other complaint is when trying to go to the recent apps it instead put the current app into a floating app, 🤬. If i could disable floating windows i would.

Colour shift between main and telephoto lense, annoy me the most. Also, not so good stabilization.

I think that the sound you're hearing on the Fold 4 is actually small brushes keeping the hinge dust free. Look it up though

Good call! For some reason I thought I'd messed with this already, but I either hadn't or something has changed. That solves the "some apps can only be expanded" problem at least.

Waiting for the full ROM to pop up in the Oxygen Updater to try. In the meantime, the only downside is double click power to open the camera being gone.

Anyone having issues with emergency alerts that won’t stop? It’s the same alert every 3 minutes started after the OS 14 update.
Anyone? It’s definitely something on the Open. I have my other phone next to me and it only happened once on that phone. Still on going on the Open.
Not something I've seen
It’s annoying because it keeps coming up on the screen. I’ve got over 70 alerts this morning for the same alert. Which I’ve also shut off the emergency alerts and it still comes in. Hopefully it gets fixed because I want to receive emergency alerts. It is good for awareness on situation around my area. This the first alert I got after the OS 14 update NA.
Update - It think I found a way that stopped it. The same alert came in every 4 to 6 minutes since 7am this morning. I went to developer option - running services - wireless emergency alerts and stopped it from there. Looks like the same continuous alert has stopped for now.

@@scaryifliteral I only ask because I've been on Verizon for like the last 25 years and I have been with Samsung since the Note 6. Since Verizon is a CDMA network it just seems like all the good phones are coming out on a GSM network. So I'm trying to decide if I want to try the pixel fold two when it comes out or just transfer to T-Mobile and maybe go for the honor magic 2 global or OnePlus open since they run on the gsm network. I just always stayed with Samsung because I have three repair shops where I live. What do you think should I give the pixel phone to a try before I go changing networks??

Since Verizon is a CDMA network, I've been thinking of going to T Mobile since alot of the "better" foldables seem to be on the GSM NETWORK, HONOR V2 GLOBAL, ONE PLUS OPEN... I'm just a little nervous because Verizon has been awesome for service in all my travels across the United States. Plus I have 3 Samsung repair places close by for my Galaxy Fold 4 which I use for my business. I'm just very disappointed in how Samsung is listening to its customers. If they don't make a HUGE change to the Z-fold 6, I'm thinking of going to someone else. Any opinions?
Dunno if its just me? But if i split screen threads with any other app in tablet mode? I lose the ability to rethread after a few minutes. And quote threading requires me to long press the rethread button. ANNOYING.

Here's 2 more annoyances to add :
- The OS kept prompting you to optimize battery usage for specific apps even if you've already set it to "Don't Optimize"
- In the notification list, you cannot "snooze" an individual notification like you can in Samsung's One UI. The only option available on certain notifications is to silence the entire app for the duration that you specify instead of just snoozing 1 specific notification from that app that is currently in the list of notifications

My main complaints are that many times I want to close a window form the recent apps but it register it as clicking outside and thus exiting the recent apps. The other complaint is when trying to go to the recent apps it instead put the current app into a floating app, 🤬. If i could disable floating windows i would.
