Inoubliable Samson François, je l'ai entendu pour la première fois j'avais dix ans, quel souvenir fantastique, il était comme un Dieu pour moi. Je n'ai cessé de l'écouter depuis.

There is such sweetness in this piece and Samson Francois milks every last drop of emotion out of it to make it an experience of pure delight.

Having completed Nocturne 2 and starting to prepare Nocturne 6 for concert, I am overwhelmed once again by the genius of Samson François. The ethereal beauty of the arpeggios in the development section is without equal. His crescendos are superb. Listen to the way François perfectly respects Fauré's dynamic markings and rests. The piece both sings and breathes. This is the way Fauré's greatest masterpiece for piano should be played.

It is as if there are no hammers striking the keys here, so singing, ineffably beautiful, and mesmerizing is this phenomenal performance, one of the greatest things I ever heard. I nominate SAMSON FRANCOIS as the greatest pianist who ever lived, and certainly the greatest known to me; yes, even greater than Mikhail Pletnev, Aleksandr Malofeev, Vladimir Horowitz, Josef Lhevinne, Moriz Rosenthal, Alfred Cortot, Sviatoslav Richter, and Benno Moiseiwitsch, to name just a few of the most superb pianists.

The French baritone Gerard Souzay twice intimately graced me with his Faure Nocturne, and entirely overwhelming is the deja vu hearing M. Francois' recording. The tonal limpidity and sophistication; the depth, nobility and directness of expression; the plasticity of phrasing and rubato- though of course Mr. Souzay was no pianist. these two incomparable artists loved and interpreted this masterpiece of tenderness the same way. I can not thank gullivior enough for posting this.

Superbe interprétation !! Vraiment un génie, ce Samson François, qui enjolive la partition, dans un esprit si extraordinairement Fauréen .... Magnifique, merci.

We did not expect Samson François in Fauré. It is difficult to find the exact feeling for this 6th nocturne. Samson François sucesses absolutely.

Like Wilhelm Kempff he could get the whole audience to total silence and astonishment.Prefer both as never to be forgotten with certain composers ,they were made for so to say.

The genius of Samson François applied to Fauré. It is the only example that I know. Fauré had just gone out a chopinian period, which could have inspired Sason Françaois. But considering its sucess in Harsh pieces of Prokofiev or Ravel, he would also have benn an excellent interpret of the last period of Fauré, more ascetic, more harsh. Anyway, let us taste this unique testimony.

I wrote something wrong. I have found the second nocturne of Fauré by Samson Français.

"Samson Français", that's what you wrote in a kind of funny lapsus Gérard !! But it's true : Samson was actually a very "French" pianist !
