I was with you until the end when you complained about the bags because of your own personal lack of time management skills (take an extra 5 seconds to open the bag and check) or even do something as simple as putting a sticker or a piece of tape on the zipper handle to signify which one you're looking at. Such a silly thing to complain about. Especially when the bag quality is fantastic. Your review was alright but it got me to watch until the end and comment so you won this exchange I suppose lol
Few corrections: 32-BIT Floating Point is not clipless audio. It’s a clipless container, but you can still clip at the mic level, or at the DAC level before it’s recorded. It also doesn’t mean you can increase gain without increasing room noise as you said, that’s unfortunately not really how audio works IRL. But rather it gives you less signal noise when you normalize audio levels in post - this is due to largely to the floating point rather than the 32-BIT. Also, the Mic 2 sounds just fine with external lav mics (DJI’s lav mic sound like trash though). I’ve used it with the Sennheiser ME-2, MKE 2 and Deity w.Lav Pro, all of which sound exactly how they normally do. Just make sure you have turned off any EQ options inside of the receiver (I.e. low cut filter). I have also permanently disabled the noise cancelling - because it’s cool for someone who doesn’t mix audio, but like yourself, I would never want to bake that in to my audio file. Honestly, IDK what makes something pro or not. But as someone who supports my fam with video/audio work, I can definitely use these interchangeably with my Zoom 32-BIT Float recorders without any perceivable differences in virtually all cases. The internal mic isn’t phenomenal but is EQ-able - you could also grab the Senn Gold Series MKE 2 and be getting genuine broadcast quality audio with this setup. I wish it had a threaded jack, but the cable locking mechanism they built in is serviceable for now I guess. 😅
I bought the dji mic 2 two day ago july 20, and it is very good. I disagree with your statement. I test it with a Sennheiser hd595 high end wired headphone, Sony a7c with gain at 1 and the dji setting for my camera is +9, LCF set to OFF, No Noise Cancelling. I keep my level around -12db. I have no noise. I use the 3.5 connector. No interference. The battery life is good for me. The case is high quality. The quality of transmission is very good. I tested it by filming inside the house in a Solarium and going outside in the garden and it didn’t disconnect with constant quality. And i was not always in sight. The transmitter are very good with the windscreen and the transmitter on the shirt. The dual case is super good. I don’t want them to change it. It is very good as is. We don’t need timecode. I can also connect my boom mic on the transmitter. The dji mic 2 has same quality from the wireless signal stored in the camera and the internal sounds. Rode wireless pro has not a good transmission module as the internals and wireless are very different. With rode you need to get the internal files. So it is not simply the reviewers. I am an audiophile, and would not accept a bad device. It is also convivial and i were able to set everything without reading the doc and without using any app or computer. You need the computer only to get the 32 bits files. I use Mono when alone filming, and stereo with two persons or with a stereo /mono boom mic Azden smx-30. I record with the 32 bits internal files as backup on the transmitter. I recommend the dji especially if you have a Sony camera, dji provide also an adapter to record fully in the camera with 24 bits 48 khz. By using the connector the camera convert to 16 bits the analog signal. You lose in clarity in theory. I didn’t bought it yet to save money, and i like the low profileon my sony a7c. Best mic for vlog youtube, interview, and documentary.
Lack of timecode support is the biggest ommission IMO. In terms of gain w/ 32 bit float, my understanding, and also what I see in my testing, is that turning up/down the gain makes no difference to the noise, only the level the audio will record at. Normalise a -9dB gain clip and a +9dB gain clip and you'll see / hear no difference.
The Rode Smart Lav+ sounds pretty good with the DJI mics. However, it's a TRRS connection which only works on the Mic 1. For the Mic 2, it requires a TRRS to TRS connector like the Rode SC3... that said, I think the DJI Mic sounds a bit better.
I almost bought this mic after watching another video of comaprison between this and rode wipro. this one won just on noise cancelation. but when you say that it still makes that robotic noise, I am not so sure if I will buy these at all. I am just a content creator who does not have much time to fidget around with technical difficulties in post. I might just go with the rode. Thanks a lot for this video and a fair review.
Interesting about the Rode lav sounding off on the DJI kit - I assumed I'd goofed something up! Re. the cases - they are different sizes but the trick I use for that kind of thing is coloured tape (frogtape is good for not leaving residue)...
Good points. I'm having issues with my DJI mic 2 and the Pocket 3. The audio just sounds muffled and muddy. Not happy with it at all. How are you finding the audio on your setup?
I have the dji mics and they’re so essy to use with great features. While im shooting alone doing directing, camera and the sound, i would never go back to deal with senheiser g3. Dji mics must not be perfect but they are helpful 1000x than the old systems. I use my lav mic Sanken cos-11 and seriously it’s good enough for run&gun stuff
100% going to make an updated video with the new firm ware. They are definitely good mics. Just missing some key pro features. But overall probably the best bang for your buck.
Why not local mute on the transmission? Some people wearing mics sometimes want a private conversation or go to the restroom. Despite the Jan 2024 firmware upgrade, this feature, although present on the original DJI Mic, is missing on the Mic 2.
Yeah, it definitely needs a locking lapel as far as the microSD. I think that would kind of be going backwards. It has really good internal storage. I think all devices even cameras should come with internal storage.
If I got it would be just a different tool to use for quick setup when I don't want to get involved in concealing a lav under someone's shirt. If I'm going to the trouble of using a lav I'm going to use a traditional uhf wireless setup with quality lav. The dilemma for me is I'm not a content creator so how many jobs could I have such large device clipped to someone's shirt even with the logo taped off? As far as quality it's a big upgrade compared to on camera mics. Sometimes having the ability to quickly mic someone trumps a more complicated setup that doesn't get used.
Hello, I am a beginner in the audio field. I want to buy a wireless microphone, to use in real estate videos and social media. I want a microphone that you can use with iPhone, and I want a microphone that I dont need to edit the audio after recording. What do you recommend?
There a ton of options out there where a receiver plugs into your phone so the audio transmits straight to your phone without having to edit it. Hollyland, DJI, Rode, etc. Personally have the DJI Mic 2 but heard Hollyland is a good option to if you're looking to spend a little less.
I’m really struggling whether to buy to use with Osmo action 4 for cycling videos. Would it be an improvement over the built in mic for ambient and voice?
Just got Action 4 been testing it out trying to decide on mic to use while riding and ideally would double for in studio setup. Action 4 mic is actually decent depending on where have it relative to mouth vs external noises.
Very good video, Zoom has also announced a new generation of its recorders (H1, H4 and H6) with 32-bit floating point recording. For you PRO level would it be the Rode Wireless PRO? Or what options would they be? Let's hope that this year more products come out that record at 32 bits. Do you know of any microphone (if it can be with a security thread like the RODE wireless PRO) that connects via Bluetooth, has 32-bit internal recording, can connect and record internally at the same time (the DJI Mic 2, you can not connect via bluetooth and record at the same time). Finally, it fits inside a motorcycle helmet. Thank you very much in advance
To personalize and identify the Pocket 3 or MIC 2 Flexible Cases, you could apply one of the DJI Multi-themed Decals include with the purchase. Just Sayin!
Woah what? DJI mics don't play well with non dji lavs? Is that true? Make a video on that it could blow up, that's a massive flaw if true. I doubt it though considering there's a creator recording on it with a Shure sm7b and he usually records with a zoom f3 and he didn't notice any difference to say something like that.
Pro audio is Lectrosonics, Zaxcom, Shure, Wizycom. Pro mics is DPA, Sanken, Schoeps, Sennheiser. If I show up to a gig with this gear I would be laughed at. Any 2.4Ghz wireless system is not pro.
I get all of what you are saying. DJI themselves never called them pro . That's coming from those creators you are speaking of who got the mics from them. I think what they mean is it has "some" pro features not all of them . They could definitely come out with a pro level mic as I'm liking these so far and all the power they are packing in such a compact size .
@@davidscottbowlesphoto I had to go searching because at first I never saw all the pro talk. I found it though and I stand corrected. I think now the title pro gets thrown around too easily . It's the highest level of quality they've put out as far as their mics .

DJI's solution is a dedicated channel under the clip for the lav cord, so any pulling of the cord doesn't actually get to the jack. It actually works perfectly well and is quicker than screwing down a plug. So I agree that not having a locking thread is a strange omission but it's far from the absolute disaster it might seem.
@@alanoakley3242it’s a massive omission in my view, with all due respect the DJI lav is probably very average, it limits being able to plug in a high quality lav. I know you could argue if your spending £200 on a lav mix you will probably have a more pro wireless system anyway, but the fact you can record 32bit float it would be great if it supported more high end mics.
@@davidscottbowlesphoto the problem is they aren’t designed for locking mics, they don’t work on some units already due to the locking nut not allowing proper connection, so I doubt a case would work, although that would be a brilliant idea,
It's a 100 dollar 32bit float recording interface with enough power to drive a Shure sm7b. (Only a few years ago, to power that mic you'd need a 100 dollar ADAPTER to add to your cable to boost the mic volume up) That is absolutely 100% pro level.
