Hey Y'all, Its come to our attention that someone is impersonating us and announcing fake "victors". We have not announced a winner yet. The winner will be announced in an upcoming video and we will contact you directly from the shops sales@thebicyclestation.com account.
Unfortunately I got a “you are the winner,” from @bicyclestation1! See below @bicyclestation1 All the entries from UA-cam were counted in the giveaway, and you happened to be the winner of the giveaway!
I’ve seen things in the past from bike manufacturers stating that aero bikes are faster on climbs until the grade gets into the 8% region. Was hard to believe at first but I tested my gen 7 madone against my cervelo r5 as you guys did here and the only place the r5 was better was up my local climb that’s 3.2 miles at 9% average. I also tested them on a 5% grade and like your test my aero bike was faster. Interesting stuff.
It’s a moving target. The faster the cyclist, the steeper the grade before the light bike becomes faster. But also lighter bikes have gotten more aero so that makes the crossover point earlier again.
I'd have a hard time believing that marketing release. I respect your test, but these bike companies are basically saying there's an aero advantage at slow speeds too?
@@Shadowboost And of course these are solo rides, right? I've been thinking about these aero conversations a lot. What is the aero benefit of an aero bike when riding/racing in groups?
Interesting that you found the S5 more compliant despite Cervelo S-series bikes being historically harsh and Trek’s claims about IsoFlow offering IsoSpeed-like comfort. Send me a helmet!
I'm thinking it's mainly from the dropped seat stays... Iso flow may do something but probably not enough to compensate for the fact that the seat stays go directly to the top tube 🤷♂️
Cervelo needs more color options, I feel like they’re missing out especially on a standout frame like the S5. Also need that new Evade to make up for unaero bottle cages 😬
I remember in your Gen 7 Madone test you said it was one of the most comfortable bikes you rode and it’s funny how TREK market the Gen 8 as like 80% more compliant but you say it was one of the harshest. Still hoping you do a Gen 7 gs Gen 8 comparison
Homies, love where your channel is going, congrats on 10K! I've got about 1000Km now on my Madone Gen8 SLR and I gotta tell you. This is by far the most comfortable road bike I've ever ridden. And I've ridden the Gen6 for thousands of KM's. I'm also using the exact same wheelset and 30mm tires that were on my old Gen6 so it's a direct comparison.
I test rode the S5, BMC Time Machine, Orbea Orca and Sworks Venge. I ended up with the Venge because it, at the time was the best mix for me as a heavier rider 190lbs. The BMC was the most comfortable/compliant but it lacked the snap when out of the saddle. The Orca was just harsh. The S5 was also harsh when I tested back in late 2019-2020. I’m sure Cervelo has sorted out the carbon lay up since the first generation of the newer design. I wanted to love the other bikes because I felt Specialized seemed very every day, living near Morgan Hill but Spec. won me over. Never ridden a Modone but the design is very nice.. thanks for the comparison 👍
It’s a testament to modern engineering that these two are so close to each other. At this point, you should just buy based on other factors like comfort, handling, looks, price, etc.
Have you ever considered attaching a G-meter or accelerometer (there's an app for that) to the seat rails, upper seat post or handlebars so you can add some objective data to your subjective compliance judgements? The attachment would be important to get right, but the data might be interesting.
Found your UA-cam chanel because of the checkmate vs the aspero video and the vibe is super chill. Make a coffe and sit comfortably kind of videos. Love the content!
Nice review. Made the points in a nice laid back format. Surprised that the Gen 8 was less comfortable than the Cervelo. I'd have been interested had you removed the special bottles from the Gen 8. I can't see people using them: you can't stand them up! I wasn't so surprised that the S5 climbed well. The buzzy bees seem to generally use it rather than the R5 (well except Sepp Kuss), and they all did quite well last year. Thank you.
Sometimes I like seeing the “full package” test. As in when you buy the complete bike what does it come stock with? I know typically you do frame sets but interesting to see how bad the bontrager wheels with the trek are or are not and same with the cervelo and the reserve wheels.
The times seem to be close enough to be the same. I wonder if you had a preferred bike for each segment, did you like the Cervelo better on the climb, or the Trek better on the flat? Helmet me!
I concur, I've been riding a Trek Domane SLR 7 GEN 3 for the past 5 years. Got the GEN 8 Madone a few months ago and it's more comfortable than my old Domane on Irish roads. This guy mustn't have it set up right for him ...
@@markmoore4325 I think there are a lot of talking heads who really have no idea about the bikes on their videos. It could be just to create controversy, engagement, and clicks, just like we're doing right now.
Interesting video for sure. I just went from a Gen 6 Madone SL7 to the Gen 8 Madone SL7 (isospeed failed so it was a frame warranty). I immediately found the Gen 8 to be more compliant to ride (noticeably so). With that being said the Gen 6 frame had failed so……😂
Love this content. I’ve been consistently training for the past year in college and could really use a new helmet. Thank you guys, keep up the good work!
Need that wheel test video, guys! You solved my earlier indecision about what to buy for my Epic Evo - and the Zipp Hitops were the right answer. What do I need to put on my new Factor Ostro?? Is it the Reserves?
Love these videos because you guys don't take it too seriously. Isn't the answer to choosing between two top spec aero race bikes to choose the one that you like better and/or the one that fits you better?
I just took delivery of a Cervelo S5 last week with Ulegtra (it comes with dual sided 4iiii power meter now!) It's a seriously fast bike, I feel like I"m cheating! Coming from a Giant Defy Advance Pro 0 with Zipp 303 Firecrest, the S5 is easily 2 mph faster with the same wattage. It's very stiff and efficient yet surprisingly comfortable for what it is. A very exhilarating bike to ride.
Love that aero bikes are still faster. Sad to see that most bike manufacturers are shifting over to a one bike to rule/ flagship. Im an aero bike enthusiast. Love the vids keep them coming, would love to get an helmet aswell! 😅
Always excellent videos. Waiting for the review of the Trek madone gen8 and the comparison with the gen7. which is better? and I can't wait to get that helmet!!
Definitely not what I would expect 😆. I just got a madone myself and really like it specially coming off a generation 6 madone. Actually would you guys happen to have a spare handlebar stem cover plastic thing. I don’t have one on my gen 8 and can’t find it anywhere. No store has them and back order until end of October. Keep up the great content 🤙🏽.

@@bluemystic7501 there's a cross over point, obviously. For slower riders it's around 5-6%. For faster it's around 8% gradient
@@Shadowboost And of course these are solo rides, right? I've been thinking about these aero conversations a lot. What is the aero benefit of an aero bike when riding/racing in groups?
Love these video series. Cycling culture can be super stuffy. Glad to see y'all can hang out and still provide great info!

He might have mixed up the results.😄
@@alkoma4586Trek probably compensates by using softer carbon in that area. The gen 7 is ridiculously comfortable
My S5 is 2022 model but not hash at all. Only stiff in head tube area but rear has a little compliant and able to reserve leg. However not soft at all
The aspero vid was a huge help in which bike I decided to start saving towards! Will keep this in the catalog too as I build my N+1 collection...
Cervelo needs more color options, I feel like they’re missing out especially on a standout frame like the S5. Also need that new Evade to make up for unaero bottle cages 😬
Excited to see this one! Been drawn towards the S5 for a while, I'll just let you both decide for me with this vid
Keep this content coming two guys enjoying bikes not taking it to seriously. 👍🏼
10/10 Content. Did not expect those results
Love the vibe and honest chat about the s5 and madone
Congrats on 10k! Always love these scientific tests, helmet giveaway is epic

yes also wish for a comp!
Please note than gen8 is spec'd with no offset. More weight pushed towards the front end. Hence the harsher ride.
@@adamkubiak1933Gen 7 also comes with 0 offset post standard on both SL and SLR
I have both. The gen8 is noticable more compliant. The Cervelo was tested by german bike magazin as very harsh to ride.
Are these guys stoned?

Pleasantly surprised to see a road bike review video, you guys are killing it.
Great comparison video, I had no doubt the Cervelo would win! It's simply the best road machine ever made!
IT’S THE BOTTLES! (Which BTW I bought from The Bicycle Station)
Always entertaining. Thank you
This is actually the video I needed!! I’ve been looking for this comparison for my new bike!
Bicycle station is the most under followed and hilarious channel
Awesome & fun video as always. Congrats on 10K.
Your dedication to the scientific method inspires me to be a better engineer... fun video, always enjoy watching you guys

You hit the nail on the head when you said the Cervelo is so much cooler. My S5 is super fast on the road, hills and flats. Love that bike.

congrats on 10k, you guys deserved it
Which one felt more comfortable?
What are some of the most compliant aero bikes? Would love to know
Nice comparison of the S5 and the Madone 👌. Love this kind of content.
Love the head to head videos you guys do!

Great comparison, cool to see those 2 bikes compared so closely

Always fun watching the comparison videos. Keep up the great work and honest opinions !
Some of my favorite UA-cam content!
Love the head to head videos. Entertaining as always.
Interesting results from comparing these 2 bikes. I definitely dig the new Trek Madone look, but not convinced by the aero capabilities.
Interesting results, looking forward to additional tests in the future
Just ordered my Trek Madone SLR 7 Project One. Enjoyed the video and I’m stoked on my choice for my bike! Just need that new helmet to go with it!
Honey quick a new Bicycle Station video dropped!!!!!!
I absolutely love both of these bikes never ridden the S5 but it looks blistering fast.
Great Comparison! Love to see the SL8 in the mix the next time!
Love these videos because you guys don't take it too seriously. Isn't the answer to choosing between two top spec aero race bikes to choose the one that you like better and/or the one that fits you better?
The answer is always what looks cooler lol
The new madone gen 8 is similar to my old 2013 madone. Maybe I should get a set of those 3 watt aero water bottles..
I would like to see a follow up on the Cervelo CX bike and Chase’s thoughts on 27.5” vs 29” for smaller riders.

Love you guys from a fellow Hoosier bike mechanic up in South Bend!
Congratulations on 10k subscribers!
Cervelo, what a dream! For sure Cervelo will win!
Finally some good review for new S5. I am concedering buying one, but the extra weight freaking me out. Maybe with lighter wheels like 40/44 or 39/37.
Love the content n the vibes from you guys
So after everything which bike would you prefer? They are close .. do you think the chainrings made a difference?
Congrats on 10K!
the Madone Gen 7, the SL8 and the Melee need to be re-tested on the new flat section. Should be done by tomorrow, right??? as always, great video!
@bicyclestation8 do i get the extra "8" in your username too?
Loving the content! Congrats on the 10k!

First time watching one of your videos. Not disappointed, keep it up!👍
Great content! Very interested I'm the new Madone
