Marci, I am an American, now living in Louisiana. My dream is to own a vacation home in Italy. The listings for very inexpensive property in mountain villages have caught my eye on Utube. Did you like Cianciana when you lived there? Would you recommend this town for a retirement destination?

I think the house has a lot of potential with a little work. I would paint the front door a pretty bright color. Also put in new steps to the upstairs so yon go to the terrace. Of course other necessary renovations.

Are there any other issues that a buyer should be aware of? Adding a shower shouldn’t be really expensive should it? Can a person buy a house remotely like they can through Salento with Love?

You can contact the agent to ask about other issues. I didn't see anything glaring when I walked through it. You can probably buy the house remotely but you would need to appoint a power of attorney. The agent handling the house can answer all these questions - [e-mail]

Is this a part of any renovation/preservation laws? Like in sambucca? I am interesting in simple living and would be living the dream in this place shower or not!

All of the Italian towns have restrictions for renovations in the historic center, but if you are referring to the 1 euro house timeline requirements, then no. This house is in Cianciana (not Sambuca). And neither town are depressing. Both have vibrant communities with cultural events and activities.
