    After doing our due diligence, we went for the lifetime pCloud plan. So far, so good. They've only been down briefly twice where files wouldn't upload or download. We use it for data storage and for clients to upload large data files whereas, previously, they had to put it on a flash drive and deliver it to us. After all, if pCloud is good enough for Mauricio, it should be good enough for us mere mortals. LOL

    I am a current pCloud user, and I will share a current issue I face with no solution to date. I store audio files within my pCloud storage under my My Music directory. The majority of my audio files are open source FLAC. I am now facing issues where two FLAC files out of 30,000 total files are now unreadable and lost under pCloud. I have opened support tickets with zero solutions for this issue. The last response I received from support was that my FLAC files are not compatible with pCloud. This does not make sense, considering that FLAC is an open standard. I have backups of these audio files, but slowly over time my files may no longer be read or downloaded from pCloud by any means. The built-in web player also takes no action against the two files that are now corrupt. I attempted to delete both of these files and re-upload from my valid backups. After doing this, I still face this same issue with the newly uploaded files not able to be read or played. This is not good at all.

      I now have another new FLAC file today that is no longer accessible. The file that was previously playable now has a stream read error when I attempt to access the file. This issue happens repeatedly with FLAC files, and it appears nothing is being done at all to address this issue. I continue to lose my valuable data on the pCloud service with nothing that I can tell being done to identify and fix this issue. Beware of pCloud.

      This past weekend I have found that I have had seven additional FLAC files that previously played from cloud storage with no issue now become corrupt. If you value your data, I would avoid pCloud and seek a provider that safeguards your data.

    One thing you didn't mention is that they charge you $20 to move your storage location from the US servers to the EU servers. Kinda scummy, seeing as I have literally no files to move lol. Idk if there's a way to get around that fee. I'm only testing with the free plan rn

    Hey Mauricio what is going on with pCloud these days. They removed the "save to device" option for mobile devices on the shared links. What is the point of uploading files for sharing if the recipient can't actually download the shared file to their device? Can you please look into this issue and get back to me about a possible solution?

    Hi Mauricio, good day to you, I hope this message finds you well.
    I have been using PCloud for over a few years now and I have been putting everything single thing I have into the end-to-end zero knowledge encrypted crypto folder. However, despite my heavy usage, I still was only used around 5% of my entire 2TBs of lifetime storage and because of the recent black Friday sales, I bought another 10TBs. So now I am thinking of sharing some of these extra cloud storages with my family members and friends. I will use the Pcloud's feature and create a link to my family members' and friends' respective folders with password protected but that's not the same end-to-end zero knowledge encrypted crypto folder as that's not shareable.
    Therefore, I would like to ask, should my family and friends be concerned about the security and privacy of these folders that I am able to create for them?

    I want to ask something,someone can clarify that if i get the lifetime sub i can use this service as a normal HDD? I mean will i get bandwidth Limits for my personal usage? i don’t want to share or anything,just to have my backup files and use them/access them as i please without any bandwidth limitations.. is that possible or there is a cap? In the video it's mentioned that I can share a folder and allow non-pcloud users to upload stuff to it, but in my pcloud account, the dropdown menu for sharing folders (the same one you see at 2:59) says "Share this folder with other pCloud users,...", so I'm bit confused.

    Hi, as cloud storage tends to expand e.g. 1TB today would not be that much in 5yrs. Do you guys know if I get a 2TB premium lifetime plan would pClould update it accordingly if they increase the storage for that plan to lets say 3TB or I will be stuck with the 2TB for life? Which in the long future surely won't be enough.

    • @butcher34
      @butcher34 2 роки тому +11

      I reached the support of pCloud and Icecloud regarding this.
      Pcloud told me you are paying for 2TB and if in the future you want to expand you just pay again and stack it on top. But what you already bought stays the same.
      Icecloud just told me that you are stuck with whatever you buy, nothing else.

    I didn't know about the Firefox extension until you mentioned it in this video. Thanks for that.
    It seems they may have fixed the "if 2FA is enabled" issue. However, it did say my pwd was invalid the first time through, but I'm not sure now if that was a false error, because it worked (and prompted for my code) the second time I tried it.
    BTW, pro tip about that signin, if you use a password manager to fill those details in as I do, you want to follow the advice about using third party authenticator sites (FB, Google, etc.), and turn off popup blocking temporarily. Otherwise, when you go to your pwd manager to get anything (username, password, etc.), Firefox closes its window, and the extension resets to asking for the data it doesn't have yet (for example, if you just pasted your username, and you go to copy your password, it'll reset to asking for username again). When you disable popup blocking, logging in opens a new browser tab instead of logging in, which is not subject to Firefox closing it as it does for the extension popup.

    In terms of usability, can I work on files on the pcloud network folder directly? Or will I have to copy the files on my local pc drive to work on and then replace the files on the network drive after working on it? For Example, if I wanted to edit a video on Davinci Resolve and had all the camera footage on the network drive, would I need to copy all the footage to the local drive to edit? Or can the PCloud drive work directly with Davinci Resolve in this case?

    • @dirkk9931
      @dirkk9931 Рік тому

      No, you can work directly on files on the network drive. PCloud can use a cache (size can be adjusted ) for frequently used files. If the files are not in the cache it might take a bit longer for the first time, as PCloud loads the file from the cloud space. But yes, you can work directly on the drive.

    My main problem with pCloud is their very slow upload and download speeds that are consistently under 1 MB/sec, and as slow as a few KB/sec. Especially when downloading larger files, the initial estimate of minutes expands to hours, and those with hours to days.

    Question. I’ve been using PCloud’s free 10gb storage for years. Would you purchase it’s lifetime 500gb to replace your other free storage? I use free Icedrive, Terabox, Mega, Google Drive etc… I do have private files on my sd cards, ssd drives, hdd drives. I don’t care for external hardware storage. With PCloud I guess I better use the crypto folder. I love cloud storage!

    • @robertrichter7346
      @robertrichter7346 7 місяців тому +1

      I would definitely do the 2TB lifetime, which I bought when they first rolled it out. Only concern would be whether you expect to outgrow that amount. If yes, then maybe do a 5TB or 10TB lifetime with another provider (or couple such lifetime plans). Now that most providers have eliminated the unlimited plans, your most economic option if you have large volumes of stuff you need in the cloud (vs maybe keeping on HDs) are lifetime plans. The monthly subscriptions are too expensive in long run. Even if you don't use much storage, you can create shared folders that family or friends can use, so lifetime plans quickly pay for themselves vs going with monthly cloud storage.

      @@robertrichter7346 I went from PC to IOS, so I do have a lot of data. I bought Lifetime PCloud when it had its Holiday Sale and recently bought Icedrive after its holiday sale. PCloud 2TB & Icedrive 3TB. I have Cryptomator that has no storage limit, so I’m fine. I do have an SSD Drive, HDD Drives, and SD Cards from 2GB to 2TB. With all of this I no longer need to ask questions like that. That question was a year ago, so I didn’t know how much of a good idea lifetime storages were. Now I know. In my Personal “Subjective View”, having everything is great. If something goes wrong with any of them I have backups.

      Now, Icedrive have a 10 TB lifetime plan as well, it cost 90 euros less than pCloud 10 TB plan and you don't need to pay an extra for crypto. Personally, I'm waiting for black Friday to see if both of them have an amazing deal.

      @@davideowatching Oh okay. I already got the pCloud plan. (Haven't seen the icedrive one).
      Personally my resume is:
      Icedrive ist better in terms of redundancy (Solid and reliable connection and upload speeds)
      pCloud has better Apps, Userinterfaces and more functions. But I already got like 8 Days in the past two Months where the upload speeds were crawling like crazy... (Instead of 6MB/s upload -> 192KB/s) while being on a LAN Gigabit connection.

    Always very worrying when there’s not one critical word about the product in a review! Do you really not care if you are using the auto upload with photos all location tags are deleted, and it doesn’t let you synchronise your folders from iOS so, you end up with 15,000 pictures all over the place for example!

    One more caveat for "one time payment lifetime plans" for this or any other provider: typically, in their T&C, including pCloud's, they state that they don't give refunds, prorated or otherwise. That means if there is something that goes wrong with your service, as happened to me recently * , there no longer is the economic incentive to give you good service. You've paid your money, you don't owe them anything more, and you can't get any money back. You don't have the economic leverage of saying, hey, fix this or I'm taking my data and money and going elsewhere. Seems to me your only option at that point is to sue them, and that is no doubt costly; due to the T&C, I think you're unlikely to win. And incidently, it's in those T&C where "lifetime" is defined as the user's lifetime or 99 years. Since there are extraordinarily few centenarians, yeah, this basically means the lifetime of either yourself or pCloud.
    * Seems one Saturday mid November 2022 they made some sort of change to their backend systems which caused 404 errors when you went to retrieve some but not all of your files. You'd click on a file or right click and choose download, the browser (didn't mater which one, tried FF, Chrome, Brave, and on my tablet, Dolphin) would open a new tab, and you'd be greeted by the page presenting a 404 error. I didn't look into the specific error that was being thrown to API calls, but rclone would give errors retrieving files when its mount option was used. What's worse is that the file I was trying to access was my KeePass database. Don't worry, I have plenty of backups. When I wrote to support about this, they went through the usual, have you tried disabling your firewall and antivirus, have you disabled browser extensions, etc. (all good diagnostic things to try, to be honest), but eventually told me it was a problem with the fact that this file is a database, and is transactional in nature, whereas services like pCloud are not designed to handle that. "Even if you open a database and just look at the data without changing anything at all, the database file might be written to". How about actually researching whether the program I'm using actually does that before telling me that? (I'm reasonably certain KeePass doesn't write anything gratuitously). But that failed to explain several things. Why, despite this file not being updated for at least 3 months at that point, was the last modify time not updated? If that supposition about the nature of the program which was accessing this file were correct, it should have been updated every single time I opened KeePass. Also, IT DOESN'T MATTER! You broke access to my files! You told me your service is supposed to be able to serve up files in a browser, and it's looking like you lost them. Worse, until I pressed them on it, they claimed they WEREN'T GOING TO FIX IT because it is a database file. I will say it may be fixed now, because the one file that started this whole mess is now downloadable.
