Thanks for your vlog today. Bad weather on Half Moon Cay. But the images of the ship is fantastic.
Glad you enjoyed it Luckily we had two great sunny days back in our last vlog to get some great fish footage. The ship is beautiful and certainly makes up for any challenges with port stops.
Not a huge beach person because I hate the rocks, shells and seaweed, but Half Moon Cay looks immaculate and I'd definitely spend time there. Haven't looked into HAL at all, but the ship appeals to me; I'd spend a lot of time in that Rolling Stones bar. 🍺🎶
Softest cleanest sand we've ever seen! Mr. Canuck hates all the yucky things under the water and can get in the water at Half Moon Cay!
Sorry your day on Half Moon Cay was a bit of a washout but it looks like you made the most of it at your cabana. I agree with the people who complimented Jill's dress, it's beautiful! Enjoyed the vlog immensely and looking forward to the next one. 😊

I loved Martini hour at the Tamarind this summer! We went every day until I ended up in the covid ward! Oh well. Still had an amazing time on the Rotterdam.
We found it so busy the time we went up there for Martini hour - it sure is popular(and for good reason!). Sorry to hear you were sick though.

Thanks for the video! We just disembarked the Rotterdam on Sunday and loved it!! I, too, love eating meals in the MDR and love going to Half Moon Cay!! The weather was perfect when we went, so we had a wonderful few hours on the beach. :) So sorry to see you got rained out...
We are happy you had a great crews and enjoyed the Rotterdam. Half Moon Cay is beautiful and we can't wait to get back there. HAL does a great job of providing excellent food in the MDR (we'd argue all of the Carnival Corp lines are like this) and you don't lose anything by not doing specialty restaurants.

I love the Full English Breakfast as training food, lol! Our British Isles cruise for May on the Volendam has been cancelled due to the ship being used to house Ukranian Refugees. Can't argue with the humanitarian cause. So, they rescheduled us for June to Norway, Iceland, and Scotland and it's on the Nieuw Statendam! I'm actually excited about the ship change. As a redhead, I've got my two worst sunburns on overcast/cloudy days.
Sounds like a good change and a great cruise. Agreed on the support of HAL and their support for the Ukrainian refugees.
The only problem with the English Breakfast was it arrived luke-warm at best. Quite odd for the dining room.
We are currently booking hotels, castle tickets and all the fun stuff for our British Island cruise later this summer.

Island Princess is the quarantine ship. I tested positive on February 22nd on day 16 of 21 on the Eurodam. I was isolated in a balcony cabin and my wife was negative and was able to stay in our cabin (she never did test positive). We were sent to the Marriott Coral Springs to finish quarantine and the positive crew were tendered to the Island Princess. The real bummer was that we were booked on the Emerald Princess for a 14 day cruise with family and of course could not cruise as you have to be clean for 14 days (pre-cruise health questions). So Covid is alive and well on cruises and we limited our exposure and wore our masks.
Sorry to hear about your experience. It’s too bad they don’t just require a negative test - without the 14 day limitation. Maybe we will get there eventually as the situation evolves. Hopefully the next cruise is more successful.
Thank you for the excellent vlogs. What do you do with your things when you are exploring the ports/beaches? I'm stressed about my stuff while I go in the water.

Great question and that's always a challenge. We have a backpack that we keep our things in, on a chair, that we keep visible at all times from the water. We usually have our cameras with us - leaving behind batteries, charges and such. We haven't ever had a problem, but we have the same fear. There are small locked boxes you can buy that can go in backpacks and then you just need to secure that to a nearby palm tree or building. We've considered that but are fearful of the extra weight.
As for the dress - most of Mrs Canuck's dresses are found by hunting endless stores and looking for deals. The majority come from Ross Dress for Less just before each cruise. We've had the same questions about dresses, and we are working on a way to give better information about exactly that.
These are great. Gets me pumped for our trip on the same ship next week. Where on half moon cay is the volleyball court? Saw something about them having volleyball games. Just don't know where on the island.
They volleyball area is down the same path to the church. Just go past the church (on the land side) and the volleyball area is off the trail to the right. Not even a 5-min walk from the dock. Good luck!
Enjoying your videos. I am curious what temperature they keep the hot tub? We love ours at home and keep it at 103.
We aren’t 100% sure - it’s likely not 103, but pretty warm. Jill can’t stay in too long. We been on some ships where they keep some of the hot tubs cooler but all of HAL’s they we’ve tried have erred on the warm side. Which is fine by us.
Hello! Thanks for posting this! We sail on the Rotterdam in 14 days and we are wondering if you had to test anytime while on board the ship?
We had the standard antigen test within 2 days to get onboard. We did 14 days back in early January and yes- we did have to test onboard to do the second 7-day leg of the 14 day trip. It is arranged and paid for by the staff onboard. We had to go to the dining room and then back to our cabin to await the results. Why are you recording the BBC show when recording is prohibited.
This is a great question and an important point. In filming our VLOGS we try to provide insight as to the various experiences on the ship and we also try avoid filming other people as much as possible on the ship. We always listen for the cruiseline disclaimers about recording/photography restrictions (and it changes from ship to ship and show to show). Even if there is no disclaimer announced/given (as in this show) we try to show discretion and focus more about the experience - out of respect for the content creators and not to spoil anything for future audiences.
The six different clips, (each showing only several seconds of the visual part on the screen) are filmed in a manner that shows how the theatre seating is laid out, how all three screens are used and how the live music is situated and incorporated into the visual presentation. The goal is to show the experience.
UA-cam is very proactive and helpful in helping content creators avoid violations to broadcast rights/copyright/laws. Each video published goes through a content check for violations of these policies and isn't allowed to be public until it satisfies their review process. We subscribe to services for royalty free content (such as music) to insure we meet the required UA-cam checks and regulations.
Interesting enough - in a VLOG yet to be published on this ship we encounter an unusual instruction about recording a show - and I managed to record part of that announcement. Hopefully it'll show some of the complexity on the protocols on recording content on a ship. Other cruise lines are much more definitive on what shows/content can be recorded and even if video and/or photography can be used - we find Holland America much more ambiguous.
Thanks for the great question - sorry the answer is so long. There's always a grey area in copyright/content and it's appropriate use. We strive to be compliant and when it doubt, err on the side of not showing too much (or any at all.)
Did they have an actual pub crawl on the ship?
Nothing organized. We just made our own - as there are lots of bars to squeeze in.
While on Half Moon Cay if you don't have a drink package on the island, do you pay cash or use your room card?
We used our ship card. Not sure if they take cash.
We're there martini or drink specials? is there music on the lido?
There was happy hour specials (2 for 1) at some of the bars on some of our HAL cruises. On this cruise we had the drink package and wasn’t aware of specials.
There might have been music in the background at the pool but no live music. It was nice and peaceful.
Agree with the BBC Lincoln Center music. Not a fan.
Ya we didn't miss it at all on the Rotterdam. But the folks that enjoy it, REALLY enjoy it, and it's usually a packed hours.
Are there still the buffets????
Yep - HAL buffets have always had staff serving, other lines are now have full self-serve buffets again.
