    One of my very favourite tunes. It was released in August of 1962 about one and half months before my 13th birthday. Everytime I hear it i get shivers up n down my spine. And yes... i have the 45rpm vinyl.

    The instrumental tune of my birthyear 1962. The planets, the stars, the zodiac and the Moon were all in harmony and unison. The longest day of the year was Thursday, June21st 1962. Historic, nostalgic, heavenly and in equilibrium with alignment with the oceans tides lapping at the Worlds shores. Serene scenario and tranquility. Quiet yet constant. Longevity, yet genius harmony, and mysterious calm the Moon was in Cancer of the Zodiac. The Tornados created the perfect mysterious tune of all time.

    I have been searching UA-cam for an early 1960s "live" recording of this sublime piece to no avail. However, I have just come across this and I'm blown away! You guys are incredible and seeing Telstar being played just reinforces what an incredible composition it is. And - what a rhythm and pace. Bravo Guys and many thanks for doing it and sharing on UA-cam. BTW, I was three years old when Telstar was first recorded.

    TELSTAR should and can serve and is historically fit to be the service hymn of the new US Space Force. Let the current USSF personnel write the lyrics. TELSTAR premiered when it did in the height of the Kennedy Administration, called "The New Frontier". "Space, the final frontier". I remember this time as come-and-gone, quickly-vanished, magic period of the early 60's, when America bloomed like no one ever expected, imagined or hoped - beautifully.
    Within all that progress, and prosperity came TELSTAR AND this new electronic music were born ABOUT THE SAME PERIOD. IMHO, Telstar represents and the song celebrates this one thing happening, this milestone and the spirit of the new age. So Telstar really means new birth and promise, out of the old, bravely into the new - neverbeforeseen or imagined possible, instaneously appearing everywhere; like the great song on every AM radio in America, Europe and Australia was almost all of us were first UNITED in worldwide communication, [whotta milestone!]; that the word-free song capped it ALL, the wonderful/miraculous fantastic promise of the aerospace future that had JUST been born and so wonderfully, down deep, this great song, somehow, celebrates with total rapture; despite the doom of the new-decade-old Cold War, the ashes, PTSD, ice from WW II was dissipating, . . . We are going on forward into a NEW light - TELSTAR.

    It's fantastic to know that there is still a Tornados band out there somewhere as they have always been my favourite musical group right from way back in 1962 when Clem Cattini and the original group has come about! I wish I could get to know more of if their is the Tornados going even now even with even a revised group, I know Roger Laverne passed away some time ago but I thought his playing the Claviola was absolutely great. Tornados - Are you still in the music at the present time? Present group seems fantastic on even you tube! Tell me more if possible. Frank THEAKER.

    None of these musicians were in the original Tornados that recorded Telstar. Only Dave Watts has any connection to the Tornados at all as far as I can gather as he joined in 1965, the same year Clem Cattini, the last of the original members left and three years after release of the single. In fact, four of the original Tornados did get together again in 1975 to re-record Telstar in Stereo but never toured together again.

    • @the_Tornados
      @the_Tornados  3 роки тому +1

      Yes we are very aware of the history, Dave Watts ( legal owner of the name )was a member of the band from 1965 after people left or got fired and recorded many sessions and releases for Joe Meek at 304, right up to Meeks death and carried on beyond, in fact, none of the 'origional' members as you call it attended Meeks funeral.....such a shame.
      Dave carried on flying the flag as those who left forfeit the rights after quiting leaving to those left.
