Here in the northeastern USA, I have been growing my Roma tomatoes in containers for many years. I really enjoyed your tips. This year I planted 6 plants and I have had the biggest harvest I’ve ever had. I canned an awful lot of sauce, salsa, and gave away a lot of tomatoes!
Awesome video. Thanks for taking the time to post it. Couldn't figure why my romas would put out big time then die off. Now I know, I'll stagger my seeds next year so I can keep replenishing after they produce. Thanks for the tips..
Thank you! I'm so glad it was helpful! Romas are fun to grow along with all the other determinate tomatoes. Staggering the planting is a great idea! Happy gardening!
Thanks for this video. I am in South Carolina and we have share some of the same humidity like Texas. I planted mines in april, I have the range from March to May to plant my roma tomatoes.
@@millsfamilygardening2634 I saw that you transplanted your roma tomato plant to a bigger pot. It looked about a foot long. Do you usually transplant when it gets that tall? Some say start indoors some say you can do directly sow. Thanks again!
Yes, I usually transplant them when they get that tall. I start indoors because our growing season is short. When it's time to transplant them outside, they already grow flowers and start setting fruit. That's the advantage of starting seeds indoors. Hope it helps.
@@millsfamilygardening2634 ok thanks! I started mines outside but in cells because I dont have any heating mats, or sunlight for my roma plants. I have 100% germination rate, but they are in 3 inch cells and about 5 inches tall. Its been 3 1/2 weeks so far.
I like how you are "too the point" and ask out loud questions your audience would be thinking. Thank you for being specific about the pruning, I tend to get confused on how to do that!! Lol -- Living in northeast Oklahoma, so very applicable to our area as well.
Отличный саженец в горшке. Радует душу своей жизненностью. Надо учиться процессу. Судя по событиям на планете можно ожидать напряженку с продуктами. А в таких контейнерах не надо специальных участков с землей. Спасибо. 👏😇

With determinate varieties, like Roma, we shouldn't pinch off the suckers. Determinate varieties don't grow forever, like indeterminate. Determinate varieties stop their growth at some point. That is why we need to get as much production out of them as we can. Hence, we leave the side shoots on determinate varieties. Hope it helps.
She is correct, I suggest only remove lowest branches touching the ground only. If u remove more suckers u are directly removing the yield.. a healthy roma will easily produce 100 fruit per plant.. happy gardening😊
I'm have now started harvesting some of the fruits and i found that when i tried pruning the suckers' of one plant the fruits are so much bigger but i'm getting less yield. so overall yes for a better yield dont remove the suckers as most of the fruits come from. @@dr.greenthumb6535
Hello my Roma tomatoes, stop flowering and I’m not receiving any more tomatoes you think that’s the end of the plant I would it start back flowering again?
If your summer weather is hot, tomatoes stop producing until the weather cools down in the fall. Here they start producing again by the end of September.
If it looks OK, there is no need to pull the whole plant. I usually prune them for the summer so the lower side shoots can grow and produce in the fall. We made a video about that. Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/bZxNqFbqvG8/v-deo.html
I've had it for a while so I can't say what size it is, but it's not very thick. I think it's regular galvanized steel wire for crafts. I'm sorry, I couldn't give you the exact size.
Бычье сердце я посадила в этом году. Черному принцу в прошлом году не очень понравилось наше жаркое лето. Многие помидоры черного принца трескались на солнце. Да, их семена у нас есть. :)
Another major perk about growing plants in containers is not having to worry about weeds. Saves so much time.
I absolutely agree! We are doing more container gardening this year! Thanks!

I love Roma tomatoes. They are highly productive and resilient plants. It's wonderful that you've had so much success with them. Thank you!

Very good video. Thanks so much my dear.
@rabiafuwai6835 Aww, thank you so much!
thanks, i learned a lot about where and why to prune.
You are welcome! I'm so glad it was helpful!
i have never seen anyone leaving the suckers and removing the other part. Interesting.
Roma tomatoes are different from most other varieties and need all the suckers they grow.
Thanks for sharing…definitely i will do this for my roma tomatoes.
You are very welcome! We wish you all the best!

You are very welcome! Humidity is hard on tomatoes. We are getting a lot of rain right now, and our tomatoes don't set fruit as well. Thank you!

That's great! Spring is always an exciting season.
Superb video, just the info I was looking for

Thank you! I'm in Texas to that is why my hot peppers and tomatoes are in containers. I lost a lot last year and I think k it was the heat.
You are very welcome! Containers are so convenient in that they can be moved around depending on Texas heat. Thank you!
Great tips. Thank you.
I seeded romas from one tomato back in March, and now I'm overrun. We'll see what happens.
Thanks for watching. Let us know how it goes. I guess that could be a good problem to have!
Thank you very much for sharing 🌱🍅👍
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching!
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
Also if you decide to trim the plant shoots(suckers) you can clone them into another plant by rooting them in wet dirt or a cup of water
Excellent advice! Thank you! 😊
I feel like they won't grow quick enough for it to be worthwhile.. unless you have a really long growing season
I should try this one day 🙃
You should. Romas are perfect for containers.
Thank you so much!!

Just for indeterminate tomatoes
first time growing roma's, i always thought u should prune the suckers on tomato plants. thanks for the video.

romas are considered determinate. Determinates, you keep the suckers. Indeterminates, you don't.
What was the size of the container you planted the Roma in?
I'm pretty sure it's a 10-gallon container.
@Mama Jamma 5 gallons might be too small for a tomato plant.

Hi! Sorry, it's a 10-gallon container, I believe. 3 gallons would be too small for a tomato plant.

Супер! Помидоры растут до самых заморозков.
тебе надо семена нормальных помидоров, типа Бычье сердце, или Черный принц... их можно легально ввезти в США?
