  • Welcome to our video on the fascinating process of glass bottle manufacturing. Have you ever wondered how those elegant and sturdy glass bottles are made? Join us as we explore the fascinating process behind their creation.
After the raw material preparation and melting, the molten glass passes through a forehearth, where it is gradually cooled to a uniform temperature suitable for forming. This conditioning process ensures the glass has the right viscosity for shaping. The conditioned molten glass is carefully guided into molds using a process called gob forming. The glass is cut into gobs, which are individual portions of molten glass. These gobs are then placed into forming machines, where they are shaped into bottles using either the blow-and-blow or press-and-blow method.
Blow-and-Blow Method: In this method, compressed air is used to form the initial parison (preliminary shape) and then to blow it into the final bottle shape within the mold.
Press-and-Blow Method: This method involves using a plunger to press the molten glass into a parison mold, followed by blowing air to form the final bottle shape.
After forming, the bottles are still hot and need to be gradually cooled to relieve internal stresses. This process, called annealing, takes place in an annealing lehr. The bottles pass through the lehr on a conveyor belt, where they are slowly cooled to prevent cracking or breaking.
After annealing, the bottles undergo rigorous inspection and quality control checks. Automated systems and manual inspections are used to detect any defects or inconsistencies, such as cracks, bubbles, or dimensional inaccuracies.
Of course, Berlin Packaging arranges for QC personnel to conduct spot checks on the production line from the first to the last bottle to ensure quality.
To enhance the durability and handling of the bottles, a surface treatment may be applied. This involves coating the bottles with a thin layer of protective material to improve scratch resistance and reduce friction during filling and transportation.
Finally, the finished glass bottles are carefully packed in cartons or pallets for shipping. They are stored and transported to various destinations, ready to be filled with products and used by consumers.
