  • This is a circa 1990 Pioneer demo disk - made in Japan (I think) but issued for an American audience - there was also a version with RCA branding with the same disk.
This new version is made with ld-decode (almost)-rev7 from three different disks, with digital sound taken from a copy that decoded perfectly. ffmpeg was used for encoding with the relatively simple bwdif deinterlacer, upscaled to 1080p/59.97fps.
(source .mkv file can be downloaded at archive.org/de...)

I think one of the striking things is the dynamic range. The normal composite output from my laserdisc player is much more washed out

Looks good! Will (could) you be able decode in realtime to such a level with software in the future ?

Chad, do you tune-up/re-calibrate LD players for others? I have a DVL-909, which far from a great player, I'd like to get running to its best capability. I dabble in electronics. I'm considering trying to do it myself just to learn, but I may wind up paying someone to do it. I have a small "pocket-style" digital O scope. Is that sufficient? Thanks! Btw...I'm located in Georgia, USA.
