This is most of* a 1995 LaserDisc from Pioneer's Service Department. While the S104 is probably the cheapest/simplest LD player ever made, most of the information applies to all other (post-)1995 Pioneer players.
It covers mechanical and electrical adjustments, including replacing the spindle motor and pickup assembly, along with mechanical and electrical fine tuning adjustments.
RF signal captured by my CLD-V2800, decoded by ld-decode, and processed into 720p60 with ffmpeg.
* - I originally thought it was because the disk was badly warped, but there was a memory leak bug in ld-decode's TBC code that I found and fixed before posting my Tuning Fork videos.
This is awesome! I have only one of four Pioneer LD players working now. I learned from your video the slider motor broke away on my 504 causing the E3 error. Now I better understand the basics and maybe able to work on the other broken players. I have many discs that were never released on DVD that we enjoy especially during the quarantine. Thanks for sharing this tutorial.

You're welcome - I've got all three Video Tuning Forks now in good condition - and I have an RF capture of #3 I can encode this weekend, and can do #1 and 2 soon as well.
My first copy of #3 was *cracked* down the middle and totally unplayable. These service disks definitely aren't being kept/shipped very well a lot of the time :(
Yeah, mine was sandwiched between two giant pieces of cardboard, which just gave more leverage to be able to bend the whole package.
I'll keep an eye out for the Video Tuning Forks - that's great that you found them all!

Amazing video! Is there another part to it? I’m trying to diagnose a fault in my CLD-D704, which has stopped playing. The startup procedure at the end of the video looks super helpful, but it cuts off at the end.
It was a decoding glitch - check the service guide for the 503/703 on manuals.lddb.com (it may be mislisted as the SM itself), those often have the flowcharts.
I just re-cap'd this disk with the Domesday Duplicator, so I'll update/repost this sooner or later.

Did you use 720p to get better UA-cam encoding quality?
Yup, I found a couple of years ago that it would encode better. Also I use the 'mcdeint' plugin which doubles the frame count, and I didn't bother to check if youtube does 480p60.
Can this video help you to fix this exact unit if the disc tray doesn’t eject properly?
I have a Pioneer CLD-1730K Laser Karaoke player which shows "No Disc" especially if a disc is loaded after the unit warms up. Starting from cold is mostly ok but also shows "No Disc" sometimes. It seems the laser mechanism is trying to read the disc but not succeeding. What can the problem be?

I have a LCD Pioneer player CLD S201 model which can play only one LD because it's overheating in some part I unknown and technitians where I live here in northeast of Brazil prefer not to check it. If you could tell me the part of this device that causes this problem I have a friend in Japan who could help get this part. Thanks for your attention.
