This video will show you how to do a Brachialis Release for Arm Pain. The Brachialis muscle is a very strong flexor of the arm. This muscle attaches from the humerus bone to the ulna bone (elbow) and is located underneath the bicep muscle. Muscles can get injured if there is too much use, if it is too weak, or if muscles do not glide or slide properly past each other. In this case of arm and elbow pain, the Brachialis muscle is often affected.
To help release the pain within the arm and elbow you may need to do a few things. First, keep in mind that the pain you have may not actually be the site or cause. This means that just because you are having pain here, it does not mean it is the actual reason why. You must look at the cause of the pain and understand why the pain is occurring in the first place.
If you determine that this muscle needs to be released you will likely have to do a few things. First, since the bicep muscle lays on top, it is important to know that you likely have to release this muscle first before moving forward. The bicep muscle attaches all the way up into the shoulder and shoulder girdle. In addition, both the Bicep and Brachialis attach to the forearm area and thus, it will benefit you to release both areas above and below.
To actually release the Brachialis, be sure to push the Bicep out of the way so that you may get to the Brahcials muscle. In addition, you will want to make sure you work on both the lateral and medial aspects but you may notice that one side of the muscle is more tense, tender, and stiff. Continue to work that area out. To continue releasing this muscle, you need to start in the flexed state, then go to the lengthened state of the muscle by extending it. To add some additional stretch to (fascial stretch) at the end of the movement you will want to extend the wrist. This will draw the tension downward and while you maintain your tension and contact, it will help to release both muscles respectively to each other.
Many people having these issues will be found in those who do a lot of elbow flexion, extension, shoulder movements, and forearm movements. You can and will often find this in someone who does a lot of lifting, elbow flexion, push-ups, etc.

Holy shit!!! This is amazing. You're not just a medical professional, you're a magician. My tendon feels much better from just doing this for a few minutes. Thank you so much!!!! How often and or long should I do this? Do I just do it when I have the pain or can I do every day, like a preventive measure? Man! I've watched what feels like hundreds of UA-cam videos trying to find a solution and this is the only one that actually helps. Thank you!!!!
Wow John I am glad you got a lot out of this! I would say do it 2-3X a week at first and then taper off to once per week and then every other week for prevention. Yes I know the feeling! There are a lot of helpful videos out there but I am glad this one did the trick! Enjoy
Thank you so much started feeling this happen today glad I could find a solution fast
Thanks for watching Luis! Glad it helped.
I've looking for the cause of my pain for weeks. You mentioned is responsible for elbow flection, which is something I do on a regular basis cause I play violin. It hasn't been improving, but this brought immediate relief. Thank you so much!
Best of luck! Let me know if you have any questions
Awesome! Thank you!
You're welcome!
That was good
WOW! I have been dealing with pain in the anterior elbow area for months and did this last night and instant relief! I have been waking up at night w pain and last night I slept and never woke up w pain! Thanks for the video! Exactly what I needed! Disclaimer: I held pressure and extended the arm 20x per side lateral and medial. Worked incredibly well for me though.
glad it worked!
dude thankyou. i was doing these brachialis curls and felt pain but stupidly kept doing sets til i was done. just doing this at my desk now and its super sore - gonna keep workin on it cheers mate
Glad you found the video then!
I couldnt hit the gym for nearly 2 weeks because of this pain! Thanks a lot this video helped a lot!
Great job. Continue the release from time to time now to prevent this from coming back.
That worked great for me. Instant relief.
Excellent
Damn man thanks for this. My Brachialis was super tight.
Iam Soymilk awesome. Glad it helped

Wow, almost instant relief... still minor pain, but much better... Thanks so much
Great! You are welcome. Give it a 2-3 days and then do it again!
Wow! Thank you so much unbelievable! Instantly can move my elbow!
Nice Job.
Thanks man! This helped a lot and I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to workout today
Glad it Helped!
This helps sooo much! I have pain since like 8 weeks. It was gone for skme time but it came back after i excercised more! This helps me so much!
Glad it worked!
How is it now ?
Painful but great release thanks my man
Yes I did this video when I was suffering from bicep pain and it helps but can be uncomfortable for sure
I have pain every time I go heavy on any flat/incline BARBELL ONLY pressing movements and I just tried this literally in bed and my arm feels so much better! It felt like I had a dead leg in my bicep and now it feels so free! Thank you so much, I’ve been scouring the internet for months trying to find ways to “strengthen my tendons” bc I think it’s bicep tendinitis etc but nothing worked
Cade Bergman amazing! That is great and I’m super happy for you! Keep pushing forward and use this also to help prevent this from happening.
Thanks :)
You are very welcome!
CHOP EM DOWN
Thanks for this video
Any time!
The soreness, tension in my biceps has left almost completely, like going to the chiropractor.
You helped with months of agonizing tension, thanks so much. Mean pipes man! I learned so much thank you.
Big Stud Thanks so much. Glad this stuff helped you and relieved the pain. I am grateful for you and thanks for watching!
Thanks sir
You are welcome.
Just subscribed. I have been suffering from Tennis Elbow since March. I did PT and I think I have resolved the tennis elbow issue. However, there is still tightness in the area. I have been working on releasing tricep tightness, but the brachialis tension remains. I think this might be the answer to my prayers. For the first time in months, I have the ability to flex my biceps without noticeable pain. Thanks for the info.
You're welcome! Enjoy!
It's really reliefs my bicep and the lower part and I can bend my arm a bit but there's some pain left but mostly effectively
Keep working it!
@@DrJoshJagoda Thanks you so much it worked now I did not suffer from that pain anymore, all I did was doing what you ever let us do and keeping my arm straight everyday 😊
Hey there, i gor the pain from pullups, i stopped pulling up for like 2 weeks and i felt that tension in wrist and in my elbow
I did couple of these and my arm felt better, Thank you Very much for this type of video, you saved my calisthenics career much appreciation 🙏🏼
Any update on your pain? I also got some pain doing pull-ups that I thought was brachialis muscle strain or tendinitis, and this video gave me a lot of relief. How long did yours last?
This has been the best way I have found to massage the brachilis. I was using a theracane and every time I was using it I was feeling a discomfort right where the pronator teres is, which I suppose is almost the location of the brachilis tendon. But now with this technique I can access the muscle without pulling the tendon or other muscles and creating discomfort. I have been feeling better in that area so I'll keep doing it as well as eccentrics
Glad this helped!
Woah 😳
The human body is amazing, i had this problem for a couple of weeks, this fixed it in a minute
Awesome!
Thanks for the tips ! Would you happen to have a self release video for the tricep as well? Cheers
Yes I will try to get that out when possible. Thanks for watching
It works
Yes!!
Thanks so much mate my bicep day was to hardcore
Killin it in the gym mate!
I appreciate this so much had alot of pain throwing a baseball & now its gone🙏🏼
Great to hear that Josh! Thanks for watching our videos!
Months of pain whenever using the bicep, even moments before finding this video was so much pain in pull ups, after doing this stretch I can do them painless. Amazing. You are the man!
Hi bro help me, i even can't straight my arm after 2nd day of gym ,my biceps pain and feel strain when i extend my elbow
I am glad this helped but if you cannot straighten the arm, there is a good chance you had a good injury and may need to evaluated to see how severe it is.
Hey doc newbie here. And ur magic killed the soreness. In 2 min max
Welcome to our tribe! Glad this helped you!
To anyone watching, YOU MUST TRY THIS, my left bicep has caused me pain for weeks when I suprinate, this has been the only thing that's alleviated the pain.
Awesome!!!!!
This is a great technique for helping relieve my pain. I just wish people who make these videos would demonstrate exercises for which these muscles are activated.
My right brachialis suddenly got sore. When by upper and lower arms became 90 degrees from each other during pull-ups, it hurt so bad I couldn't even do one. It also hurts when I rotate my palm from neutral to up.
Thanks for watching. When you say you want them demonstrated for which are activated you are saying that you would like to know a rehab exercise that exercises this muscle?
Sounds like you may also have to clear the bicep since it hurts with rotation of the hand/palm.
Did this shit just Hella worked on my pain thanks dude! I was starting to get concerned
We got you covered! Glad you are well!
Thanku sir
you are welcome!
Yeahhhh so you just helped me get rid of my feeling of having to “pop” my arm (which is painful) for the first time in months that spot in my arm didn’t feel stuck and needing to be popped. Thanks man. My pain is very localized and I can only touch it with my fingers when my bicep muscle is shortened and I can move it like you said. The pain is right up against the humerus. I think it’s brachialis but I’m not sure. This really helped though.
Glad it helped. You may want to do this every other day for a few weeks.
worked😃
Boom!
Thanks
You got it!
You're Welcome. Enjoy
Wow this worked
Boom baby get it!
One thing that also helped me other than these stretches was doing more bicep curls at the gym.. maybe it’ll help someone..
Yes that can also help as you are strengthening the muscles as well! Stretching only does not fix things.
I have pain in biceps/brachialis area during pronated pull ups since almost one year 😢😢
Great vid works. but now i need one for my thumb after pressing 😲
You're likely pressing to aggressively and being too pokey with your fingers
Could you make a video about the difference between this pain and distal bicep tendinitis?
Will do.
Really helps still really sore doh
Glad it helped. Maybe slow down and only do it 1-2 x per week,.
MONTHS! MONTHS of pain thinking I seriously injured my bicep. I did this for 5 minutes. No more pain. WTF. Thank you!
IT WORKS! You are welcome
Awesome video. Was trying to figure out if it was my biceps long head or brachialis which is too tight when stretching chest and UEs in supine over foam roller. I have multiple tender spots, but decreased tightness after one try. Assuming it is too much phone time with elbows flexed and sleeping with elbows Flexed that's causing the tightness. I've already been using the right medial trigger point to decrease pain in Palm at base of thumb, didn't realize it was the brachialis. Thanks again now I need to get off my phone.
Glad it worked and thanks for watching! I appreciate you.
It helped on my months old aches but it will take few days or weeks to completely get heeled
I hope it will get heeled soon... it is more painful raising
Mike glad it helped. Try doing this two times a week at first in addition to forearm stretches
Where do you live? If you are shooting pain into the hand it can be something different. Maybe I can refer you to someone if you need.
I’m in constant pain and idk what to do and my arm still hurts
wow instant relief!. i thought it was golfers elbow because it was on the inner side causing me issues above the elbow. amazing technique! thank you! will this fix the problem completely? I first noticed this problem not from lifting qeight but after treating my extreeeemmmely tight and knotted forearms from 15 years of landscaping . i used the Armaid and stretching on my forearms.. which worked wonders.. but then developed this issue.. any thoughts why this occured ?
Awesome to hear it worked! Any muscle that is overused and is overly tight can create poor movement patterns, cause pain, and affect surrounding structures. It sounds like the accumulation of all this tissue trauma is what happened. I don't think the Armaid did this to you since it helped but as I mentioned other areas were likely affected as well.
Omg that felt so good, been stressing so much over what my repetitive injury is. Rotator cuff? Bicep tendonitis?? AAARGG!! ITS weird, the pains in my shoulder, center front of lateral head of shoulder, right where the bicep tendon is. But don't feel pain curling, only when lateral raising or bent over lateral raising.
Could be bicep, Coracobrachialis, and rotator cuff
@@DrJoshJagoda outer bicep please its very weak and impacting pull ups

OMG THANK YOU !! THANK YOU !!!
For the last five days after a terrifying workout my brachialis and lower bicep are sore, and tight all the time. I can't do anything because of the huge pain coming from this zone in both my arms. More than 90 degrees elbow extension is impossible, because of the brachialis being tensed with pain all the time. And it happens that I find this video and try to push as you are showing, I only tried the outside push and I was so happy to extend my are easily without pain. Now I will continue doing this all day ! Thank you once again !
wow thats great! Super pumped for you and I know this will help! Give yourself a day or two rest after you do this!
@@DrJoshJagoda
Thank you very much, Sir! The pain that is still on (but way more light) is on the Brachioradialis, but I think It just needs a few more days to recover. But the release that I felt thanks to that video is awesome! I will look deeply into your Chanel the up coming days.
You are helping people, thank you for that!
Best regards

I am having this issue for past 3 days in both elbows and biceps, I pray this pain should not even come to my enemy.😂
Give this a try for a few weeks and it may help
@@DrJoshJagoda It really helped man. The pain just gone forever after I tried several time like 14 times with 2 hours. I am cured complete. Thanks to you man. Cheers!
I wish that you get fast rehab ... i have light bicep tear not complete tear for tow months and pain still with no difference im not working out at all my questions is how can i speed up rehab and can i do push-ups bench dips all dumbbells triceps and shoulder work out or not
Fast rehab does not really exist. Your body needs to adapt. What will help faster rehab is correct and competent protocols so you don't take bit steps backward.
Good Rehab exercises for this muscle? i have pain since 2017
That's a long time! I would get a good eval because it can be something else. Muscles can take time to heal but 5 yrs is way too long. I am sure other issues have developed (likely) since its been 5 yrs!
I have a lot of pain in my forearm whenever I workout....originally caused by a hanging exercise I liked to do for stretching my back....will wearing a tight wrap around my forearm and elbow help?....thanks
It could definitely help. They call it a cho pat strap strap but it does not address the cause of the problem. It just takes away some pain and irritation of the symptoms.
How soon should I start trying this post arm bar injury? Got caught pretty good and it feels like it was my inside brachialis that popped, not so much my elbow or posterior. Just happened tonight, got some ice on it but not sure what else to do so doing some UA-cam school
It depends on the severity of your injury, the pain, and the type of injury, You can prob. do this soon after but it will have to be very very light at first!
@@DrJoshJagoda have an mri scheduled for Monday. The distal bicep tendon isn’t completely torn as you can still do the hook test, but it’s definitely mushy. My bicep is curled up oddly on the inside also. Doc speculates I may have torn the actual muscle body as well as some of the distal tendon hence the mri to confirm.
An odd symptom I’ve been having is some seemingly associated nausea. It’s the damndest thing but after my arm has been stationary for a time via a sling or sleeping when I start moving it again I get incredibly nauseous and have thrown up a couple times. Not taking anything that would make me sick and not coming down with anything otherwise I feel fine. Ever heard of that being associated? I did the elliptical machine the other day and both feet went numb so I stopped, after I stopped moderately severe nausea 🤷🏻♂️
This is what I needed, how many times a day do I do the outer part of the brach an for how long?
do this 2-3x per week.
@@DrJoshJagoda thank you!
Before doing this I couldn’t even straighten out my arm. Still haven a little pain though, if I were to stop lifting for a bit and just rest and do this a few time throughout the day do you think the pain will entirely go away? Thank you
It may possibly but you should likely rehab too
Had a small pop in my arm, old injury; do you have instagram where I can send you a message? I've got a tournament in a few weeks and this is a recurring injury that happens to hurt more during a flex with a pronated hand. Doing these pressure thing hurt like a motherfluffa
I do have IG but I don't use it much. Check out instagram.com/dr.joshjagoda/
Is there any chance that this pain may be linked to tenosynovitis also? Sometimes I experience tenosynovitis after Gym sessions involving lots of gripping/lifting and then my brachiallis flares up soon afterwards
ITs possible but may not be as likely as you think. Likely more from gripping like you said
Hi, I play badminton & after playing for two days I get pain in the similar area & hence I have to stop playing for 1 week in order to play again. This is now an on going process, do you think this can solve the issue or is it something else. My hand also trembles after having an intense game, please help me with this, I have been having this issue for past 3 years not being able to play regularly. Thanks, btw I live in India
Best of luck!
I'm going to try this, I thought I had bicipital tendinitis but I think it is my brachialis. Thank you for the great content!
mrkentucky03 thank you! I hope this works for you! You’ll likely have to work out both structures so give it a try
San Diego Spine and Sports Wellness I'm having pain on the outside of my bicep/forearm especially on pressing movements. Again thanks for posting!
mrkentucky03 try to also work your forearm flexors and extensor! Hope it helps.
I have been doing BJJ amd just realised this is what has been hurting after training like progressively to a 9/10 then its fine after 30 to 45mins should I be strengthening it or will conditioning happen pver time?
Depends on that is actually going on but 9/10 is pretty high. Sounds like you may need some release myofascial work
@@DrJoshJagoda thanks for the info, I should clarify it gets to a 6/10 but i keep rolling and keeps getting worse, I havent rolled in a week will see how I go tonight!
I did it and heard 2 pops and it didn’t work
Will this correct the trigger point I’m feeling in my thumb?
Likely not. This appears that it may be something else. I would go get coached or evaluated by someone. Thanks for checking the video out!
I've had pain in a similar place and was trying to pinpoint the exact issue when i press the brachialis right in the elbow crease towards the outside of my arm it really hurts and I sometimes get pain when doing bicep curls, not in the bicep but close towards the side of it and I sometimes get a similar pain when trying to do a bicep pose and it feels like i can't full flex the arm. Does this sound like my brachialis is the problem and would this release help? I was a little worried incase it causes extra inflammation.
Thank you
tankthebastard this release can likely help you either way but it sounds like you may be having bicep tendon issues.
Feels like what I am going through right now. Did you ever figure out how to make the pain go away? Thank you
Sir after the relief i went to gym and the pain started again..
Just because there is relief, doesn’t mean it is gone. You’ll need to do more to make sure you’re getting better.
This works. For weeks regular massage just wasn’t that effective.
I’m older now, and this is an injury that hasn’t gone away after months. This method definitely released all kinds of tension in my lower bicep.
Never realized how tucked under the main bicep, the brachs are until doing this. Thanks, great post helped with MONTHS of tension. I’m 46 and this is common injury at this age.
so happy this helped you. Let me know if you have any questions!
I had shoulder surgery in June which I was recovering quickly from, thanks to 30 years of yoga and tai chi. But for some reason, I had bicep pain, and I thought it was because of me compensating for the shoulder. I recently went back to work and the pain started to get really uncomfortable so I started researching and came across your videos and the pain immediately went away. But I think I went a little overboard! Lol because now those two spots are sore. How often should we do this?
campbj179 I would start with 1-2 x a week. Do about 3-5 passes for that muscle. 3X a week is likely too much
San Diego Spine and Sports Wellness thank you!!
Is it possible that the brachialis pain can happen from arm wrestling?
I'm finding it difficult and worried that the exercise mentioned may worsen the pain.
Yes this can definitely be an issue. Also, the elbow joint and ligaments associated can be part of the problem.
@@DrJoshJagoda by the way thanks.
I'm already recovered from the pain by doing this exercise.
