I think that would be very easy to win to be honest. Even without any exploits, the problem is that as soon as the player blunders martin will always take over and not take advantage of the blunder - after all, stockfish will calculate the position as being very advantageous the moment the player makes the blunder even before they've actually punished it, which would prevent them from ever punishing it. If you were trying to game it, then the play is probably to just blunder your queen early (and it's fine if they don't take it, just as long as it's being blundered each turn), and then wait for Martin to blunder checkmate without trying to capture their pieces.
I played something similar to this in real life. We called it "chaotic agent chess" and the idea was you have a third player who plays every third move. This means that there is an alternating pattern where the third player switches between taking the turn of the 2 players. The pattern is ABCBAC repeating (if A and B are the 2 standard players) so each player gets 2 moves in a row by themselves where the chaotic agent plays in between those moves for their opponent, which makes actual strategy around trying to manipulate the agent and playing in ways where you can't be too hurt by the chaotic agent trying to equalize the playing field by sacrificing your pieces or just blundering them. This worked well because the third player didn't actually know anything about chess so he was just playing based on aesthetics and his emotions.
Video idea: play against Martin but make him play the opening only, then switch to playing stockfish. I think waching stockfish trying to save the position would be interesting
@@iwantcheckmatethis might be hard to set up but what if it starts as Martin, then the bot's elo rating gradually increases by 150 every turn until it reaches stockfish level after like 20 turns
This may have already been suggested, but blind MartinFish where there’s a 50% chance each turn it’s Martin/SF and you don’t know who, so what looks like a Martin blunder could be a Stockfish strategy or vice versa 😊
It would be interesting to create a stockfish-like bot which tries to play the best possible moves GIVEN that every second move is martin. For example, at the start it might not have traded because there is a risk Martin would just leave the bishop hanging.
Dude, have you done youtube before this? Your voiceover is really really good and your content ideas are really great which always makes me click on your video and your voiceover keeps me hooked throughout the video.
It would be interesting to see this same style but with a randomized swap between Martin and Stockfish. Basically flipping a coin between each turn to determine control. That way you might get unlucky and go against multiple stockfish turns in a row or you might get super lucky and scholars mate Martin. The randomized aspect would keep you from playing into a guaranteed Martin turn like you did here. Great video all the same though. Thanks!
Went about how I expected lol I wonder if it would be harder if it was martin + an actual grandmaster though, cause even if the grandmaster is weaker than stockfish they can play around martin's blunders, while stockfish is going to make very longterm plans and have them completely foiled by martin. Actually I even wonder if it'd be harder if you reduce the depth of stockfish so it only looks at good moves in the immediate future!
Nice video as always! :) You're one of my favourite chess creators already XD Challenge idea: play against Martin. You premove 5 moves, then you play 5 moves normally, then premove 5 moves again and make 5 moves normally - I guess you get it ;) If your premoves are stopped by a check, you lose 😁
I believe F6 by Martin was to prevent the dark squared bishop from attacking the trapped rook. However, he probably just though 'ooooh me like pawn'. We'll never know.
I think it would be cool to have the engine be randomly chosen between Stockfish and Martin each move (maybe 60/40 or 70/30 if 50/50 is too easy). You may need another person giving you the moves, but if you didn’t know which engine did it then it might be interesting trying to figure out if Martin’s sacs are actually genius Stockfish moves
3:33 this makes me think it would be interesting to see a game where every turn black has a 50/50 being played either by stockfish or Martin but you don't know which, you would not know if those unconventional moves are seeing some fourth dimension outplay or just Martin being Martin
Idea: Play against Stockfish. You are allowed to have Martin make a move instead of SF. Your goal is to minimize the number of Martin moves needed to win.
Somebody should make random martinfish where it's a 50 50 chance which will play the next move and that info isn't revealed to the player until after they respond to the move So you might respond to what you think is a nonsense Martin move and then immediately realize that it was actually a super deep stockfish move
I wonder what the minimum dilution of stockfish is that you could still beat like if Martin played one out of four moves would that be enough? anyways great video as usual.
Spoilerfish: Play against Stockfish until you're losing, then switch to Martin until he blunders, then give it back to Stockfish and see if it can recover
as a 1200, i have done this succesfully too. I advice you to be more aggressive when martins turn is coming up. you play way to principled for this game mode. If you take a defended pawn with a bishop (a totally losing move), there is a 90% chance martin won't even capture your bishop. You can use this all throughout the game until stockfish has no pieces left. Someone of your level could probably win if it's 3x stockfish, 1x martin (moves). In that game though, you do need to play principled, like you always do 😂 I would love to see it! experiment a bit with what i just said, I'm sure you can fish a new video out of it that I'll definitely watch!
Do swaps like now, but if you are up a material only stockfish playes, until you balance again. That would make you think twice if you take while martin blunder.
Could you please try the same but instead of alternating SF/Martin make it random? Also, can increase the chances for stockfish until you can no longer beat it
Something was definitely fishy about Martin and it had to do with the green color. How about you and Magnus bot vs Stockfish (lower depth like the bots) and see if you can hold to a draw?
I'd be curious to see how this goes against an intermediate, or advanced bot merged with stockfish. Would it be an even matchup if you played against an engine 800 points higher and a bot 800 points lower than you merged together?
After …Nd7 I’m left with either taking the pawn and attacking a protected rook or defending the bishop, so I end up helping the opponent develop. Good question!
Challenge: play against stockfish but you can use a certain amount of top engine moves e.g 10 to give you a chance. Maybe increase the amount until you win?
lame? i mean, it's not that that you'd have to face 3000 and 100 elo, which could make a 1550 elo... it's far worse. Assuming stockfish would at most make 1 accuracy across 40 moves and martin like 15 blunders or mistakes.. it'll still be around 7~8 blunders per game and that's more like sub 800 elo play.
Here's a horrifying idea: Stockfish whenever you're winning, Martin whenever you're losing
Haha that would be quite a mental challenge
Believe that's the mittens behavior controller, except with mittens it's variable
I think that would be very easy to win to be honest. Isn’t that just the adaptive bots?
That’s like a back and forth game
I like to believe Stockfish was yelling at Martin for throwing the game.
Hahaha probably!

This is a really cool idea! Maybe in the future if I play with viewers we can do something like this
Martin ate stockfish and became martin fish🤯🤯

Stockfish probably shouting “you idiot!” Like that one competitive teammate.

martin is too powerful for anyone to understand, he is playing 4d chess but unfortunately all his pieces aren't on this plane
now one move for martin, two for stockfish.

This was fun. You should consider doing a bot climb this way. Elani fish, Oliver fish, Aron fish, until you lose one
This is a great idea, and thank you

Yes, and it’s something I’ll experiment with soon!

3:17 why not queen d4, protects both pawns and if the pawn takes you take with bishop winning the rook?
edit: im blind
