I remember leveling BLM in the dunes. There were a few players that did not want me because lolGalka.
Then one observant player told the party to look at my MP and gear. He was like, "he has more MP than the tank has HP, and he has more MP than the taru WHM. Don't judge!"
Some players don't realise that merits exist. Also Astral rings exist.
Does that mean I could've been an elvaan blm and still succeeded? Admittedly, I know _very_ little about ffxi presently.

Gear could also close the gap. But you'd be fooling yourself to think that the MP difference between a Galka and Taru were the same, without gear or merits.

DRK can tank as long as you pretend that your Job Abilities don't exist.
The moment you use one you instantly get dead.
Shout out to "Tractor". That spell is SO SPECIFIC, but goddamn when it's handy, it's HANDY lol

I would love so much to find my way back to vanadiel. I could never find a consistent group to play with. Breaks my heart because the game is so amazing I just could not find a way to advance into the higher end content.
Gatekeeping was baked into a lot of the early community.. I'm sorry
its only a few steps away. I just started playing again and it's much faster and can solo all the way through

Back then they did do DRK/BLM and RDM/BLM tanks because the absorb spells, the elemental enfeebles, stun, bind, and gravity made a stupidly large amount of hate for no reason. With tanks all being DEF and nothing else, DRK had the same armor as PLD, and more enmity.
Square lowered the hate for those spells to almost nothing, so PLD could actually be a tank. Then they had to do the same thing for BRD since the movement speed+ songs and the charm songs had the same level of hate, and BRD/NIN was the big thing for one update.
I remember seeing JP hnmls using brd/nin tanks for fafnir and nidhogg it was really amazing while it lasted

Black Mage was my heart and soul in FFXI... I loved Thief, and Beast Master too, but Black Mage was my main, and I loved it.
I see SOCOM: Navy Seals...you sir have earned my respect. I've played the hell out of all the SOCOM's with 2 and Confrontation beinf my favorites. Also I miss XI, and hopeing they can restore my character when I left in 2009, for XIV.
They just restored my character and account from like launch, and I haven't played since then, so I'm sure there's hope for you.
Black Mage is the best sub when farming, free warps and escapes. As a main, it's sexy powerful; sucks to level at lower levels due to no Crowd Control besides Bind.
Rasp is cast by low level worm monsters, like in Maze of Shakrami. Very likely the first one you encounter. Dying to Rasp after killing the worm will leave an impression on ya, it did for me and probably did for this author too.
This is awesome. I loved black mage. As a red mage main, I had to level black mage a ton as well for my sub. And yes, I agree a monk using his 2hr seems oddly specific. Paladin makes sense… some monk popping 100 fists, and thinking, “Ah! At last!!! It’s my time to shine, with manafont!!!” And then immediately stealing hate, and moments later… dying. I never tried red mage/summoner… now I’m very curious. Getting to use refresh, and composure while subbing summoner seems like it might work… not sure. Red mage does not get aspir natively. Man… I miss this stuff. Great video again man!
I loved this guidebook so much, still have it somewhere. Like it was so unrealistic but worked well for my imagination at the time!
BLM was my preferred sub as RDM outside of exp parties. Hell it was my preferred sub in exp parties. (But groups wanted back-up healing) I liked better (less resists) enfeebles, stronger elements and warp. I would go so far to say that many HNMLS required me to show up as WHM/SMN (auto refresh) or WHM/SCH (after SCH release) or RDM/BLM (for reasons above) or RDM/DRK (specifically on stuff that needed chainspell+stun.) I have shown up as RDM/WHM before and told to go back and change sub.
Also would like to add my own story: I only leveled BLM to 40 so i could death solo a voyager's sallet from Carmine Dobsonfly. Ended up getting 3; My irl wife, my friend and myself.
Another memory unlocked.. ugh to hell with that fly 😭😭
Still hoping for a Red mage Brady guide! So many changes went on with this class up until the end. It's a decent melee job now instead of a healer and as a 75 player that makes me overjoyed and leaves me with a sense of pride by trying so hard to melee at least when soloing. It was the devs Intention all along for rdm to melee and enfeeble, not just heal! Lack of curagas and debuff removal was a pretty clear sign it was never meant to be main heals.
Edit: also I'm playing ffxi again currently, and there are so many players online. FFXIV is doing an event with FFXI soon, wonder what it'll be!

The stuff about using Bind defensively really took me back. I remember early in Aht Urhgan the troll beastmen zones were absolutely packed out with BLMs doing the classic bind and nuke strat on flans. Good times.

TaruTaru BLM Glass Cannon... oof... tell me about it. One of my most embarrassing moments, (still) in (probably permanent-, sadly) memory, is when I desperately wanted to do this temporary Campaign thing and I got a bunch of Japanese people, who were trying to do their best to communicate through those little 🟩auto-translation🟥 and I did my best to understand, but the TT BLM popped Manafont and my target immediately ran over and kick him in his little Koala-shaped face ONCE, and the fight/strat was essentially over. 😕

Okay, so when I played this game when it first came out I found it impossible to wait around for hours to _hope_ to get a party... thus marriage did not last. Either way, BLM turned out to be the only class I could play but it also entered me into the first time I have ever bought game money for real life money. This allowed me to buy the spells I needed for each leveling section, otherwise I wouldn't get invited. I had no idea how to make money and I think the only real source at the time was growing crystals or something. I quit playing for over a decade and came back to go through the whole game with Trusts. I really liked getting to see what the game had become past level 38ish (far as I got before I quit). Thanks for these nostalgia trips, it is appreciated.
As a grown person I cry inside when I hear these stories :( While I helped more mature players here and there and quite enjoyed it.. I wish I could've helped everyone
10:29 Bind got nerfed i think it used to be % chance based on enfeebling skill and was actually hard to break
What I loved about this vid was that it feels like Brady games is basically telling the player that everything in this game is out to get you and FFXI is more of a horror game than anything. Where at any moment something is going to jump out and kill you.
That comment about rdm not being a tank aeeing back then I was a rdm/war main tank. Did about even to plds back then. Even more so after crimson/blood scale accessed.
I remember a buddy who, after we did Divine Might, immediately wanted to play a BLM/DRK or DRK/BLM like Ark Angel TT. And, as a Tarutaru that was using the exact same face and everything...he pulled it off...both ways. It was HYSTERICAL to see a BLM/DRK at 75 meleeing with the best BLM Scythe he could have, and not only setting off the Skillchain but ALSO nuking. He had one caveat: He always opened the skill chain, and no Ancient Magic unless it was a 2 or 3 level skill chain (so opening with say Distortion and someone tying it off with a Darkness skillchain). And we'd be damned if he wouldn't do it... though naturally he would always then IMMEDIATELY run behind me for Cover. XD
One of my very first jobs ever. Aside from Warrior... How little I knew Elvaan Black Mage's were not that great haha

I've loved BLM ever since I got my hands on my first Final fantasy.
It was my first job and no surprise my main in 11,
I wish I knew as much as I do now about the job but when I started I was like 12-13 and had no idea what I was doing,
I was constantly criticized for not knowing what I was doing but I was still having a lot of fun and it never put me off the job,
I remember how proud I was just soloing my Kazham keys purely because I was told it was impossible for a BLM..
I know better now but that will always be a special memory for me.
Now I'm older and wiser, I only love it more.
Also BLM/SMN Agree that would of been awesome.
As a RDM I could NEVER get into playing any of the suggested subs, a RDM is a jack of all trades, master of none. I just couldn't get into a singular concentrated skillset of a BLM or WHM (I don't know about Blue Mage and anything that may have come after, I quit after summoner came out about 2yrs in). I think that a RDM's TRUE counterpart is THF actually... nothing like a RDM that can flee!
Now I remember! everybody would critique my decision of RDM/THF because of quick cast. BLM's get the best quick cast. But with most classes you will have trouble joining parties if you sub an off-meta combination.... but with RDM you can do whatever the hell you want lol.
They Probably only leveled it to like 18, Or just did partys after 12 why they did not mention sleep. But when I started this game I started as a Gulk BLM in Sandy leveled it to 18 then got RDM to 24 then I found out I started with the wrong character for sells so I created another one and just used him for storage.
Best moments as BLM were the times we used to play soccer with dead bodies + tractor spellcasting. xDDD

Hey Hunting, I got a couple questions for you. When watching your stream on Wingz. How did you get those verbal notifications for /emotes and what not (custom sounds for things too)? Also I saw a friendlist type thing while you were playing? You got notified that someone came online. Is that a plug-in? Or just a Wingz thing? I play on Eden FYI.

Funny enough... the first job I every picked up was Black Mage. I played a TaruTaru blackmage to level 18.. got my subjob and still to this day have never leveled it past 18. Did I plan to play blackmage as a subjob? I have no clue, I never did but I just was playing whatever I felt like it at the time. I think after having unlocked subjob I went on a spree of trying so many combos and eventually fell on THF/MNK and THF/WAR. Atleast until I hit 30 and got around to playing the superior Nin.

It wasn't done as much, at least not in a regular low level party. At the time, I think the window for MB was short, but I could be wrong about it. Then not to mention trying to figure out what spell to use for said SC. Least that's my guess, never played a mage during the ps2 era XD
It absolutely was. And if you were a badass RDM, you'd burst on top of maintaining buffs / debuffs and the occasional off heals.

DRK/WAR was a good tank for the first 50 levels of I remember correctly. Especially using great sword with light damage skillchains

I don't believe bind is broken by damage, its not a long lasting spell so its not line you are going to get multiple spells out

Here we go again, another video of "how to milk FFXI" I used to enjoy your content and looked forward to next video because nobody is covering my favorite game. But you seem to pump any video with anything in on it. Can you please bring new and refresh ways to upload videos that aren't already covered as guides in ffxiah or other places? Thank you.
Have your sins been forgiven today and forever? Think about this. The God of the bible, the One True God made us to worship him, obey him, and enjoy him forever. We break His laws daily by not putting Him first, not thanking Him like we should, we lie, we lust, we have sex before marriage, we dishonor our parents, we covet things other people have, we take God's name and use it in vain, we use it in a low manner, sometimes as a cuss word, (God is holy and even His name is holy), we don't love like we should, etc. In doing so we're saying He's not a good provider, He's a liar, He's untrustworthy, He's not worthy of praise. All these things and more are counted against us. The bible says God is the just judge of the world and one day He will settle the score for all the wrong we've done. God is holy meaning He is righteous (morally perfect in thought, word, and deed) It also means He is set apart and higher than us. God being good, must punish all sin or wrong doing in the world. This means that if you sin one time God will cast you in hell for eternity. Because He is good and He doesn't turn a blind eye to sin. But there is good news. 2000 years ago Jesus the Son of God came into this world and lived a perfect life ( He never sinned once) and He died on the cross taking the wrath that we deserve and paid the penalty for the sins we committed. The bible says that if you will repent (confess and forsake your sins) and trust in what Christ did on the cross (He took the wrath of God that was meant for you and I) then all your sins will be forgiven and when you die you will be in heaven with God and all who believe for eternity. Jesus died and on the third day He rose from the grave. Get right with God today don't wait. Once you die after that comes the judgement. Hebrews 9:27 It's the most important thing you can do. You must be born again John 3:7 If you repent and trust in what Christ did on the cross it shows that you've been born again or born spiritually. Right now you're dead in your sins and you can't see the beauty of Jesus Christ but after you trust in Christ all the things you hate about God like obeying him, serving Him, loving Him and others, reading the bible, praying and going to church you will love to do those things because God changes your heart. That's how you know you have been born again and forgiven. Please think long about this and ask me any questions you have as this is the most important thing you can ever think of in your life. An eternity in hell (darkness and a lake of fire the bible describes it, with weeping and gnashing of teeth) or an eternity out of that place and into the loving arms of God who is infinitely glorious, has infinite knowledge and has infinite power to do all that He pleases.
