CONGRATULATIONS (it was harder in 2005) on successfully patching Final Fantasy XI (it was slower in 2005) and navigating PlayOnline! I know you've been working really hard (we used to have dial-up) at it, and I'm happy that you've (ISDN was only 100kb/s) achieved your goal of patching. I know your journey through (56.6k modems had a 6.5kb/s max download) PlayOnline was filled with ups and downs, but your perserverance (patching used to take 18 hours) you stuck (if you disconnected, you'd have to start from the begining again) through them all, and you were rewarded for your patience and (that means if you got a phone call in that 18 hour window, you lost all progress) tenacity. Congratulations (it was harder in 2005) once again, and here's to more success in your future (we played on a Playstation 2) endeavors!!!
technically we have an ongoing expansion storyline called the "the voracious resurgence" the difference between that and older expansions is it's releasing bit by bit like 14 does for its post-expansion patches rather than shipping on a disc fully complete, but 11 does still have ONGOING storyline content in the works and releasing regularly.
Knew like, 95% of this, but knowing that seekers has free exp is a new one. Thanks! I partly taught myself this game partly by fucking about and finding out, part by wiki (obviously), and part by the bg 1-119 guide.
Man, I was half tempted to get this again after 15+ years but it's changed so much... like not even worth it. Not the same game I remember and I don't want to get it to solo the entire time. Seeing the dunes empty like that hurts my heart. Edit: Nvm...i'm a nostalgic shill.... got into it anyway -.-;;;
I feel the same way. I was majorly into this game when it first launched in the US. I'm considering picking it up to just complete the story, but so much has changed.
Killer guide, I like the straightforward information, definitely makes a good guide to get you bearings. I used to play like over 10 years ago, watching videos like this make me want to play again.
Really helpful and funny just recently started FFXI since I wanted to experience the story that so many love firsthand. The game can be still be super obtuse for a brand new player even with the myriad of resources available out there.
I’m on my day 3 of FF11 and my god this game really wants me to hate it 😂😂 Everything is either a chore or impossibly over complicated and it begins with installation lmao. I’m determined tho so I might succeed this time.
This really shows its age , it will literally take the average person several hours to purchase , set up , download the game , then when in the game set up the controls and everything before even beginning to actually play.
I mean not much different from other MMOs when you log in and customize stuff. Only difference is fighting with playonline which isn't that bad once you understand it.
This is really well done tbh. You're not bad at editing and deliver everything well. Only complaint I have is bump your volume on your mic up a bit or speak up, but I'm surprised you don't have more views/subs. Oh yeah, subbed.
Hold on hold on hold ON!!! You can jump in FFXI now? How long have I been gone for. I just re-subbed last night and I thought I knew everything! Also, am I seeing you effectively with a mouse? This was something originally unheard of in the way-back machine.
Okay so, like I've played FFXI since launch and only recently came back. I like to watch these from time to time just for entertainment. I absolutely lost it when your voice disappeared because of how loud the in game music was. I remember that blaring in my head phones and when you launch PoL for the first time and the heavens split from how loud the music is.
You forgot the other million gil allowance! Accolades can be spent on prize powder, and it stacks to 99. 10 accolades gives you 100 gil per powder. So you get another million per weekly reset.
There's no difference between Square Enix version and Steam version. This is not FFXIV, here both versions just give you a CD key that activates the same version of the game. Steam has an installer included but it's somewhat outdated, still nothing prevents you from buying it on Steam and then downloading form a web site.
i remember when i got this game for my pc in 2002..then for my 360...and i remember finding the strategy guide at best buy..i got it for 1 cent..because they didnt have it on their system
I prefer Ashits because for some reason Windower was buggy for me even though it was the first program I used.I would not enable the second window I have no use for it and I hate cluttering the screen. The one thing I see almost every single new player do is to use magic without readying their weapon before they do.The same goes for using a ranged weapon make sure you have your main weapon out before you do.
the sound mixing on some parts made me wanna tear my ears out, the trust companions part (13:56-15:09) is the worst by far. other than that cool video good job edit: why dose the Carbuncle look like its censored here lmao(15:16), oh wait could it be a 2d sprite made to look 3d so when you try to play the game at a high rez it gets all blurry like that?
I downloaded the trial yesterday.. even if ffxiv was a pain to get into with 200 step to finally get playing, i think this game breaks any record. Took houuuurs to get anything to work, playonline is the biggest pile of crap i've ever seen, you're forced to use it and always watch all the garbage to finally get into the game.. a game that looks like crap until you realize there is a ffxi config.exe hidden in the files to finally put that game in bigger resolution.. then after being finally in the game, they explain nothing, the keybinds are atrocious, i get that it's a ps2 game at first and playable with controller, ok fine, but still, decades later, they should at least try to upgrade a bit of it. my problem with that is not how the game plays because ok fine, it was p^robably good for that time, but with how pathetic the install/sub/login process is.. how many thousands of ppl do you think have wanted to give the game a chance but ended putting it in the trash ? Yoshida hope that the new raid series in ffxiv brings ppl to ffxi, but do you really believe that ppl will spend that much time for that game ? clearly not.. both FFXI and FFXIV are a pain to work with on the "account management" side.. and that's a squareenix problem because I played WoW, GW2, and took me a single minute to get into the game.. Luckily I survived the subscribe problem of XIV and now i'm getting close to 10 000 hours of gameplay and it's my favorite game, it's just in XI and XIV what's around the game that is a pure mess and should be addressed because in both game they are clearly losing people because of it. I think it's sad that to make this game playable you have to rely on Windower and mod it from top to bottom, from A to Z.. I dont think the xbox 360 version is still running so if the game is not only on PC.. why not spending some time making the game enjoyable in 2024. :/
2:29 Personally, that's not the main reason I picked a Mithra as my playable character (though it is a bonus); my main reason is because of their (presumably biological) gender roles.
You played the wrong version - COP era (maybe ToAU?) is the only version of the game worth playing. For that you need a private server, such as Horizon.
I tried it and it was just not for me. I disliked the interface and how things were hard because of it. It also does not help that the graphics are crunchy so trying to find your way through things is very hard on your own without caving in and searching walkthroughs. If you're a old retro player euthenist you might like it, but I myself am also one and this has to my retro game that I tried and did not stick with sadly.
I both love and hate that new people are showing up to XI only because they got bored in XIV. It's like, "Oh, there isn't anything left to do in the best game, so let's check out this BOOMER PILE OF SHIT that only grandpas play." But at the same time it's also nice to see new players boosting the server populations. Just don't go on Asura. Please don't go on Asura. I'm on Asura. You're going to have a bad time if you go on Asura.
It’s not to bad I spent 8 years on that game make sure your in a linkshell make a lot of friends that’s going to carry you to and there to get most cutscenes storylines completed it is a lot of fun lots of death re raise potions hairpins come in handy if there’s no one to raise you other than that it’s a great game I do miss it
Once you get to end game is where the fun actually starts unlocking sky and sea im thinking of going back I went to 14 after 11 which I stopped playing in 2013 I started 11 in 2006
Congratulation on getting through the login screen, that is the first and most ferocious battle till end game.

A story continuing for 20 years is already crazy enough, I'm just glad they stuck with it for this long.
Coming back to FFXI after 13 years. Thank you for making this guide in a simple yet entertaining manner. Can't wait to hop back in :)

Was it worth it? Did you have fun?
One of the most satisfying feelings was getting the perfect Magic Burst on every Skill Chain
Tarutaru every cutscene is labeled comedy 🎭
This was excellent.
Makes me wanna go and restart.

This is a great guide!!! (This sounds like me trying fit all of this in any time I talk to a new player haha)
holy shit dude, finding that misc. 2 menu really helped me
Thanks for this guide! Entertaining and hella helpful as I'm just getting started - much appreciated ^-^
The first true boss however is always Play online.
Why the fuck do I need a comprehensive guide just to download this game and successfully make it past the control settings?
Old + Square Enix
thanks for making this, was very helpful to a fellow avid xiv player whos out of stuff to do
At 9:19 you mention a macro to send people to Brazil, I'm from Brazil and I would like to know if there's some magic to take me out of here?
A lot of funny clips in this video lol. "I turn 38 in April" "I have a daughter that just turned 33" xD
Good video deserve more views
I'd recommend using the Unity warps instead of trekking to the other major cities, saves you a ton of time.
Just got it work yesterday. 6h battle (windower and ds4 include) but worth it. Still hands down best mmo ever.
Two minutes into the vid and you already greatly improved my qol just by telling about windower

If someone says they didnt use the wiki, its because theyre old and they used allakhazam instead
Wasn't expecting to see Touhou references here, well done

I played ffxi 7 years back in the day (Shiva), been thinking about it a lot lately but man they have added so much crap it's scary lol
Private servers is the answer.

Honestly it looks like a pain in the ass for someone that just wants to play the story. And that's me, I just want to play the story. lol
it is the dialogue is mixed in with the regular chat so you'll be reading stuff and in between you'll see advertisements of players getting mixed in
this is a weird video, i like it
great video, ive been playing over 2 years now. and i still get so confused so easily. somehow i prefer asura over bahamut lol
It's way easier to just use a controller to control your character. The game was designed to be used with a controller, hence the made for PS2
I always swapped between controller and keyboard. Both have perks and work for end game
the sound mixing on some parts made me wanna tear my ears out, the trust companions part (13:56-15:09) is the worst by far. other than that cool video good job

its some kind of effect they put on the model it make it stand out more. other trusts like iroha 2 and nash 2 have this effect too.
Love this game when I was younger. Was thinking of coming back. Is there any NA discord I may join, if I come back to FFXI?

I don't know if i want to learn the system to play the game, or just watch cut scenes.
lmao love the video. Does anyone know the song that plays with the Mitras at 2:29?
pretty sure that's just the music that plays when you have a Mithra selected in the character creation screen.
Crazy I can alt+tab without windower and it works just fine.
ah... what happens if the game is no available on my region on steam? is it possible to play stand alone client or u need steam?
You can buy it standalone
I start this game and I can't even buy anything, everything is so expensive.
