Didn't think I would enjoy this as much as I did! I would love to let Dr. Payne know this:
    - When finding out that the QM2 was docked in San Francisco (I believe on her maiden voyage 2004?), I spontaneously asked my dad if he'd like to drive up with me (we were in Silicon Valley) so we did. The waterfront road that passes the ships (The Embarcadero) was jammed packed and stop-and-go so we couldn't just park and leisurely get out and walk up to it. We managed to get a just a peak at that majestic vessel! By then it was dark due to traffic but still worth it. Big, big event for us lurkers!!!
    - Your instigating making the Britannia dining room incredibly spectacular especially resonated with me. Wish I can say was on QM2, but experienced this Cunard "WOW" factor on the Queen Elizabeth in '18 as a Britannia passenger on a San Francisco - Sidney cruise that sis and I took as a tribute to a couple of trans-Pacific journeys we took during our childhoods ('50s and '60s). Really, I loved your explanation behind this - it's so "power to the people!"
Thank you so much for the interview Chris!

Terrific interview. Met Dr Payne 10 years ago on QM2"s 10th anniversary transatlantic. Dr Payne gave wonderful lectures but also was friendly and accessible if you crossed paths with him on deck. Thank you for sharing this interview with him.

I had the absolute pleasure to meet Dr Payne on my September 2023 back to back crossing. I watched the 5 insight talk series and got to shake his hand and thank him one evening in the Commodore Club. Absolutely fascinating gentleman.

I also was fortunate to meet Dr. Payne on that September 2023 transatlantic crossing of the QM2 ! He is such a kind and loving person! I attended both of the two lectures he presented in the ship’s theatre. Both were fully packed with standing room only! He said that he always calls and considers the QM2 his “ BABY “ ! 🥲 You could see how rightfully proud he is of the Queen Mary2 After the lecture concluded, I ask if there was anything he wishes he could have designed differently on the ship ? He said , “ Oh Yes , I wanted to make the funnel taller and bigger! But couldn’t because of the Verrazano -Narrows Bridge in New York Harbour! It wouldn’t have fit under the bridge !!😂 He said he knows the profile of the ship would have been vastly improved with the larger funnel. His finishing words on the subject were, “ Why couldn’t the bloody designers of that bridge made it taller !!! “ 😂. MikeW.
