FRISCO, Texas - Joe Pavelski says he has no plans to play any more in the NHL after 1,533 games over 18 seasons, and never getting to raise the Stanley Cup.
“This was it for me, like it was known for a while probably,” Pavelski said Tuesday, two days after the Dallas Stars lost in Game 6 of the Western Conference final for the second year in a row.
Pavelski, who just wrapped up his fifth season with the Stars and turns 40 next month, said he was still decompressing and going through the emotions that come with the end of a season.
“I don’t want to say this is official, but, you know, the plan is not to be coming back. There’ll be more to come on that," Pavelski said. “Everything’s still raw, like nothing official. There’ll be more words and I’m going to need a little bit of time to really put it together and figure it out that way.”
The Wisconsin native, whose 74 playoff goals are the most for a U.S.-born player and were the most among active players, was at the end of his contract with the Stars. He went to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020 in his first season with Dallas, and also got that far with San Jose in 2016.

That would be awesome , but I think he has hurt feelings about how they let him go.

He didn’t seem to be his old self during the playoffs. It’s too bad . I wanted them to win the cup for pavelski .

I was rooting for the Stars like they were the Sharks. I wanted Joe & Pete to win the Cup so badly. Not to mention with names like Marchment & Suter on the team, it almost felt like the Sharks

Man, he needs to win the cup before his retirement. I don't even mind where he wins it, even if it is in a rivalry team. He just deserves to win one for sure.

The fact thorton, marleau, pavelski, had that many playoffs and didn't win a cup is insane. Makes me sick Vegas has one and we don't

Im in Dallas as all outlets indicate he's moving back to Wisconsin as the young players he took in need a new place to live.

Paveski was may favorite he was the first player i liked that was on a team i didnt root for . the Flyers would be my home team i am 45 mins from where they play . Growing when the sports games started to come out for the computers in the late 80s is when i got in to hockey . i followed the Phillies , 76ers and Eagles sometime around 1980 the Phillies and 76ers with a channel called Prism in the PHILLY TV area . as a kid i could never watch the Flyers on TV they was on Prism to but i could never watch more then like 5 mins if that . i did know who some of the players on the Flyers where it wasn't tell the middle of the 86 87 season and a friend took me to a flyers game and i been hooked ever sense i love the sport and can watch any two teams play in any league . oops back to the late 80's video games i had a hockey game for the computer . me and all my friends wanted to be philly so we all picked other teams to play with me i picked the Canucks my favorite flyer time twin was a Canuck .from the middle of the 86 87 to about 2006 oops 2009 i only liked the Flyers and Canucks hated all the other teams it wasnt tell Pavelski came along i started to like players that wasn't on the Flyers and Canucks then later my hate for the other teams gone away . Still love the Flyers and Canucks but now i like more players on other teams and just love the sport in General .i love where teams also change their logo , colors even name of a city like everyone else can't wait to see what Utah does with colors and the name they pick i like Yeti or Mammoth

    Hey Brodie,
Thanks for the tough video. Joe Pavelski will always be one of my guys. It stung when he left but, at the time I understood. I have been pulling for him every year since he joined the Stars to get his name on the cup. There are lots of guys who deserve their name on the cup but, none more than The Big Pavelski.
I think I am safe in saying that Joe Pavelski is the greatest Sharks draft pick so far in franchise history. Yes, we have had other great players who perhaps have slightly better statistics but, considering where Joe was drafted that was one hell of a call who ever was responsible for deciding that Joe Pavelski had a future in the NHL in the 7th round!!!
Regardless, whatever Joe decides I will always have the fondest memories of him. If you decide you have had enough who could blame you after all the years of hard work that have made you into the tremendous player you are? Not me. For purely selfish reasons I will hold out that maybe once you are rested and the sting of another deep run has died down a little you will reconsider and see if there is a team willing to sign you that has a decent chance to make another Stanley Cup final.

Brodie there is now one player left! PM12, JT19, JP8 and BB88 all brought so much joy but also heartbreak that all (may) never win the cup. JP8 to the Tank Rafters please!

I am so pissed off right now! Joe Pavelski was 24 goals shy of 500, and still very capable. Now he’s never getting into the Hall of Fame. He was supposed to be the 49th member of the NHL 500 goals club (Malkin 48, Kane 50). The longer it takes for the NHL 500 goals club to reach 50 members, the longer it will take to get that special collector’s edition of the Hockey News Magazine, dedicated to the 500 goals club, ranking them on skill and talent.

Joe Pavelski played in three shortened NHL seasons - 2012-2013, 2019-2020, 2020-2021. He would have had 500 career goals if not for that.

Great career. Hall of very good, probable jersey retirement by the Sharks. Lack of individual hardware or a cup will make it very difficult for him to become a HOFer.

That whole "Hall of Famer" section of this video. One sad part to that is that some "critics" will *always* use those things you've listed as against, particularly not winning a Stanley Cup, to not only to stop him from being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
But to also *slander, disrespect & overall discredit* his entire NHL Career.
