At approaching my three score and ten years, Quadrophenia is still my favourite album of all time. Nobody makes music like this anymore and I doubt anyone else ever will.
all the arrangements were pre-recorded, the problem was synchronizing the recorders with the live music. there was no room for improvisation and the whole band hated the result
I don't know why I continue to love The Who, I just do. I'm confused as to why they didn't have a microphone prepared for Keith on a stand behind the drums.
Holy - That was Fantastic - & Fun!! I SO wish I could have seen Keith in concert. I got to see John (The Who) play Quadrophenia (& more) once, & that show is still in my top 3 favorite concerts of all time - & it's a 3way tie for #1 with the other 2 best shows. Thanks for sharing this - Keith Moon was a true force of nature - & will always be Sadly Missed - But thank the universe he WAS Here!!
Thanks a lot for yet another Charlton 1974 cut with vastly improved video quality! Just a suggestion: perhaps you could add a note like "HD" to the title so that people click on this video rather than the olde, blurry ones. Same for you Naked Eye/Let's See Action video.
When you look at the stage here. I now see the connection with Led Zep! Lead singer curly blonde hair, & grest vocals. Bassist's so cool just standing, commanding the groove! Lead guitar!!! Wow!!!!!! What's his name & Jimmy! 🤣😂
It's a backing track, the Who were amongst the first to use them, initially for the modular synth arrangements on Baba O'riley and Won't get Fooled Again. For their Quadrophenia live shows, they used backing tracks much more extensively. Unfortunately the technology was extremely unreliable, and they stopped performing most of the Quadrophenia album by the end of the tour, falling back on older songs which didn't require such extensive instrumentation. This is also the reason Keith Moon is wearing headphones, as the tracks required him to play to a click.
@@johnhinks5018 Thanks for the information, my friend. I've just listened to this through my old Sennheiser headphones sounds really good /it's not an easy live song to do at the time. Tone Leics
Why does Moon pull off the head phones when handed the mic the first time, then scramble to put them back on? Second time he was handed the mic he left them off, but did bring the left side to his ear for a few seconds. What are the headphones all about? other bands don't use them. Also, why doesn't he have his own mic? or is that part of the show?
No idea why he took them off and put them back on - possibly he couldn’t hear himself singing, so knocked them off and it went wrong, so then thought best to keep them on Moon used them to hear the synths clearly - the Who used to play to the same synths recorded for the album (the reason they stopped touring Quadrophenia so soon, as it was so awkward to time all the backing tracks. Listening closely you can hear them slip out of time in a few places here. I can only guess they didn’t have good enough monitors in the 70s so Moon needed them coming directly into his ears
Iirc, it's referred to as "Foldback" and allows the band members to hear themselves or the instrument they are playing clearly above any noise or other instruments. Whenever you see a singer on stage, they are usually wearing earpieces or standing in front of monitor speakers on the stage in front of them which provides the Foldback.
I think he had the synth track in his headphones. The synth wasn't played live, it was on tape. So Moonie had to have that synth track on his headphones in order to keep time. Watch his leg keeping time with the rhythm of the synth track (on one ear in his headphones) while he's doing his fantastic vocal parts.
This lot were the original Spinal Tap FFS! To me this is a shocking live song and performance. I just dont get what the fuss was all about. Shame because they have one of the best drummers and bass players in the world.
@@stigflambard9799 Each to their own. I always liked Bell Boy just because it's a good vehicle for Keith and the lot of them always seemed to have a lot of fun performing it. So we'll just agree to disagree - my nickname as a kid was "Stig", so I can't fall out with you!
The best drummer in the best band in music history
What handsome chap too ❤
Aug 23, 2023
It would have been Keith's 77th birthday.
This is when Rock and Roll was fun!!! So much joy and excitement coming from Keef!! Not a dull moment!!
RIP Keith, you were one of a kind, never to be surpassed 💕
nor will John
At approaching my three score and ten years, Quadrophenia is still my favourite album of all time. Nobody makes music like this anymore and I doubt anyone else ever will.
the synth arrangements on quadrophenia were genius
How did they have those in a concert? Were they pre-recorded or did they actually have someone playing a keyboard???
all the arrangements were pre-recorded, the problem was synchronizing the recorders with the live music. there was no room for improvisation and the whole band hated the result
I love how happy Keith looks while he's drumming at 3:40
wow Keith at his best!! Just rediscovered this album after about 40 years. Still think it is the best piece of rock music ever done.
Could you imagine being Moon's drum tech ?!
Way YES!
I think this was my favorite of Keith’s kits. Beautiful marigold tone to it.
I STILL Love him so much, my Keith❤
I can't believe they had already written Quadrophhenia before they had even shot the Tommy movie. These guys were busy!!
The Who.The best there ever was!
Daltrey always looking like he's walking, but never going anywhere. Lol!
He said he felt awkward not having anything to do when everyone else had an instrument to play.
Mooniest song ever!😅
I wear it behind this bloody little badge...WHAT SAYS
I think the line is actually: "I wear it behind this bleedin' little badge wot says...."
Love the way Keirh spins the mic at the very end ! Ha ha .. what the hell was going on there ? Hillarious & Brilliant .
Methinks that he was trying to imitate Roger's microphone twirling, particularly since he was actually using Roger's mic.
4:30 John trying not to laugh at Keith's singing.
Those harmonies on the words “bell boy” are insane. They sound like the recording
Love the mic swing fail at the end.
Pete’s solo is amazing
They put him on-screen for their recent Quad tour here in Dublin and the place went mental.
Seriously, just amazing
He was the greatest greatest ever rock drummer of all time!
He was certainly the best Keith Moon type drummer in the world !
Sir Keith of The Moon👍🤘🤘😅🤣😎🤔👍🤘
Keith the legend!
I just love The Who so much.
I don't know why I continue to love The Who, I just do.
I'm confused as to why they didn't have a microphone prepared for Keith on a stand behind the drums.
There's every reason to love The Who. They are the greatest rock band of all time.
He would have found a way to destroy it. Mangle it . Lose it.
Keith was not a strong singer, but couldn't stop himself from singing along to all the songs. I believe that's why he wasn't mic'ed.
John is brilliant too on this... ! On "bell boy" missed from John an Roger ah ah ah!
And he made it look so easy.
I love his little ROger Daltrey mic twirl at the end 😂

My favorite Pete Townshend solo right there
Thanks TALIA 😘Listen to the OX on the bass
This clip is of far better quality than on The Who's official UA-cam channel!
The highest of high definition
All the other videos I've seen are very crappy quality
This is really cool!
Thanks For Posting This.... Absolute Classic!!!! - 🎸🤘😀👍
I think somehow keith always wanted to be the front man
Rock Ola.He was the front man!!!
Great quality!
This was featured soundtrack on the movie Quadrophenia.
What a talent. Sadly missed.

How crazy, weird and wonderful he will always be...

I’ve always marveled at how they put up with Keith Moon. But then they hand him the microphone? Mystery to me.
Bell Boy was written for Keith specifically. It's his fourth of Quadrophenia.
I would've liked to have heard that *AMAZING* Drum Solo he played on the Record!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic. Excellent quality. Does this entire concert exist on video?
ua-cam.com/video/f9_FnS81RmM/v-deo.html. FF past the interview.
Might be a more thorough version out there.
Yes. It was rebroadcast on uk TV in the mid-nineties. It's not worth watching. Pete was totally wasted, and lazy...
@@sirandrelefaedelinoge you can tell that in this video. Shame.
always running at someone's heel !
Joyous!
Fooking amazing
WOW!!! Incredible.
At 2:55 begins one of the greatest sequences in the history of modern rock. Right there! right there! Only enhanced by Pete Townshend's waistedness .
Fuck'n classic! 😂
He really wanted to sing.
He did a solo album "Two Sides of the Moon".
Excellent
Without a crazy person in every band there would be very few good bands?
😂 so funny and so good
