    I demoed the 2016 5010 yesterday and could not believe how fast it was down Rush. I was within 13s of my pr with sub-optimal dirt on my very first ride. The 27.5 turned in like a dream and pedaled so fast. Couldn’t believe it.
    I want a Bronson or a Nomad, but the 501 was compelling!

      Chris, glad you share my affinity for the 5010! I rode the Bronson yesterday and for Corner Canyon the 5010 is hands down the sharper tool... with that said, the Bronson is money and for anyone looking to get a little rowdy, Bronson might be your whip. Bronson review coming soon!

    I just pulled the trigger on a 2018 5010 R build in Alloy. I clocked up 30 miles on it this weekend and I love it! Your two videos on the 5010 are what motivated me to check out this bike. Thanks so much for the awesome videos. Like yourself, I rode both the 5010 and the Bronson and just preferred the feel of the 5010. It feels so snappy and quick - climbs great and is pure fun to ride!
    Out of the box the 2018 R comes with a dropper, 1 x 11 drivetrain, i25 wheelset, smooth brakes with a good feel, a sturdy Fox 34 fork, a super comfortable saddle, nice grips and great tires. Unlike most other bikes I test rode, there wasn't a single item on the bike that I needed/wanted to change or upgrade, it just felt awesome out of the box.

    Cool review! As Soon as I jumped on the 5010 I knew it was perfect. I liked the Bronson but the 5010 was much more playful. Used to ride trials and bmx so I'm forever manualing, and hopping over everything! Playfulness was the no1 thing I was looking for! This thing is more than capable though! I've raced enduros, raced dh, xc and always take it to the bike park! I don't get why everyone 'thinks' they need 160mm to ride around the local woods? Less is often more!!!

      OkojackO, thank you! Excellent comment! My experience with the 5010 is very similar to yours. Love how it just pops off everything and rails through the corners... very firm where I like it to be but still feels plush enough for some chunkier sections. For me it doesn't do what a 160mm bike does but man, for everything else it's just about the perfect bike! Like you I really don't like how a 160mm bike rides on the more tame trails and really appreciate the feedback and feeling the 5010 gives me. Great comment, thank you!

      Numposende I'd never want to tell someone how to spend their money but I personally wouldn't buy a bike based on two weeks of the year! I'd rather have maximum enjoyment in the other 50 weeks. (Personally) and unless you're gonna 'beef up' your bronson, it's not gonna perform massively different to the 5010 out of the box unless you're racing. All my friends (the ones with Santa Cruz) have bronsons and nomads and I'm quicker then all of them both up and down. it's not what you ride, it's how you ride it! Don't believe all the marketing bs. Only way you'll know for sure is a test ride! Not much help I know but we're all different and prefer different bikes/set ups etc.....

      I feel the same way. I was amazed that the 5010 has a longer chainstay, but was WAY easier to manual and hop on. I love to play, not just ride fast, so this is probably the most important factor to me. I also found the Trek Stache to be amazingly playful. Not really sold on plus anything, especially 29+, but the fact that is 1000 less than the 5010 and would be infinitely less maintenance is a big "plus".

      Go ride every bike at your LBS that fits. I have been so disappointed with bikes that looked perfect on paper, but did not ride as expected, and also been blow away by bikes that I would have never considered based on geometry. For me, its hard to find a single bike that I love.

    I watched your review a year ago and it really helped me decide to get a 5010. Bought a 2016 cc frame and built it up last December. It's fantastic!! To describe it in one word, - Playful. Thanks for the great vids. :-)

      David, thanks for sharing... So stoked for you! I loved my 5010. Crazy fun bike. Definitely has a personality of it's own... I've yet to ride a bike as fun as the 5010!

      No worries! I'm actually thinking about also getting a long travel bike. It's between the Firebird & Nomad4 at the moment, without having tested either. If I remember correctly, the firebird seemed to climb better and a bit plusher descending. Decisions, decisions......... Will get a test ride of each next year. :-)

    The 5010 will handle almost anything. I rode mine down the Pike's Peak Barr Trail, the Whole Enchilada and other Moab trails, intermediate downhill trails in Vail, Demo Forrest in California, and my local very chunky trails. On long descents it could sometimes feel 'short' to me where I wanted a little longer bike in front of me. And on really steep technical climbs the front wheel tended to drift (likely due to the short wheelbase and chainstays). But it was just so super stable in the worst conditions. It just sticks to the ground like no other bike I've ridden. To me the 5010 is the 'everyman' bike.

      Thank you! I've not had a chance to ride the Fuel EX 27.5... You can find my video's here on the channel of the Fuel EX 29er and 27.5 Plus. I'm guessing the 27.5 Fuel EX is most comparable to the 5010. I'd like to give it a spin at some point. The Remedy was also really very nice!

    Enjoy your reviews. I'm currently trying to decide between a fuel ex8 2x 29, tallboy 29 2x, anthem advanced 2 . haven't really considered the 5010. may consider the pivot 429 trail. i ride mostly rocky , rooty, hilly (but not super steep and long), twisty trails in NE Ga. Have you decided on a replacement for your 5010 yet?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  7 років тому

      David, thank you! I'd say first pick a wheel size and go from there. There are a lot of advantages of going 29er in terms of speed and overall probably a little faster bike. The newer geometry 29ers are really very incredible bikes! I'd for sure lean more toward the Santa Cruz bikes. After logging thousands of miles on so many different bikes I'd say you definitely get something a bit more special with the Santa Cruz over Giant or Trek. If your trails aren't crazy rowdy I'd maybe go with the Tallboy. If it were available when I bought my 5010 I'd likely have gone that direction. That is if you're thinking 29er. Heres a link to the Tallboy info: bit.ly/2iD8TAp
      I've made some changes to my 5010 and plan to keep it... video with the said changes coming soon!

    So I was set on a Bronson as well. When I got to the Santa Cruz Demo day yesterday in Roseville, CA at Roseville Cyclery. I was able to test ride the Bronson and loved it. However, I test rode the 5010 as well and it just felt so nimble and agile on the same trails. I bought the 2017 5010 C R1x build in the Red/Mint color since they were doing 10% off for Demo day. As you said the 5010 is best for me in the trails I ride. Thanks for your vids or I may not of test rode the 5010 at all. Since I was set on the Bronson. Keep them coming bro. And as BKXC says "I'll see ya out on the trail"

    I went to test a Chameleon and was disappointed on how hard the front end was to get up. The 5010 was much easier to manual, despite the longer chainstay...which I can't explain. Which of the bikes did you feel was the most playful?

  • @Cartsp70
    @Cartsp70 7 років тому

    Hey J how you finding the Hightower, ? I've come to realise that the 5010 was a great bike like poppy like you said , I know I have the Bronson cc and man it's awesome but yeah it doesn't react when I try to manual or bunny hop it's like planted to the floor which is fine too at speed , uphill the 5010 is amazing at climbing it's unbelievable 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

    Hey, love this review and it's really made me consider the 5010 as my next bike and I just have a few questions as I'm not very knowledgeable about mountain biking.Can the 5010 handle some trails that would be considered more Bronson territory? Could you take it to a mountain park in the summer and be just fine without the higher travel of other bikes? Also is the aluminum version of this bike still just as good as your CC version? Thanks.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  7 років тому

      Jonathan, glad you liked the review! I've really enjoyed the 5010. It can handle the rough stuff ok but it takes a fair be more finesse... if you intend to ride rough terrain all the time I'd go Bronson. I've got a 5010 vs Bronson video coming out this week.... btw, I've got the C version.

    • @jonathanschwarz5799
      @jonathanschwarz5799 7 років тому

      Thanks, I'm not sure why I thought it was the CC, silly me. I would mostly use it for trails but would want to take it out to a bike park occasionally maybe a few times a summer.

    I'm eyeballing new bikes. I got a Trek Marlin 5 as a starter not knowing if I'd even enjoy mountain biking but I really enjoy it. I've put over 1000 miles on the Marlin since I got it. I've been looking at the Santa Cruz bikes. I ride the typical South Texas trail, rocky as hell in spots and roots all over so a hardtail is getting old fast. I'm honestly not sure how to look for a bike other than looking at my budget and wanting a full suspension. I can maybe spend up to $3000, any suggestions? Would the 5010 be a good choice? Also, do bike shops let you take the bike to a trail and try it?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  8 років тому

      Chris, welcome and glad you're enjoying mountain biking so much! Without seeing the trails you ride most often and the speed you ride, it's difficult for me to point you in the right direction. If you're 5'10" or taller I'd strongly encourage you to test out some 29er's. If it's more cross country type terrain I really like the Trek Fuel EX or Pivot 429 Trail. If your terrain is incredibly rocky you might consider something other than the 5010.... It's my hands down favorite bike but the bottom bracket is incredibly low and you'll suffer from excessive pedal strikes if you're in a rocky area. Good luck friend!

    Thanks for the nice review. I'm looking at the 2017 5010 C S... what are your thoughts on its componentry (GX drivetrain, Guide R brakes, Fox Performance...)Also, how tall are you/what size did you get? Thanks!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  7 років тому +1

      I'm 5'8" and rode a Medium. I just purchased the Hightower S build with GX. I've ridden x01 xx1.... gx works for me and really isn't all that different. If you've got the money go for it but I'd rather spend my money else where ;) Good luck. The 5010 is so fun, you'll love it!

    • @petecaston
      @petecaston 7 років тому

      MTB yumyum thanks for the reply! I'm 5'11" so the large is likely a good fit. I'm kind of torn between the 5010 and the new Trance Advanced 1. Having a hard time justifying paying 1,100 more for the SC when the Trance has full XT and Factory front and back. Different types of bikes but I think both would fit my riding. There's quite a bit of technical climbing where I live so I'm leaning towards the SC.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  7 років тому

      The large sounds like the ride fit for you. Tough choice... I'd go SC myself ;) Good luck!

    J, thanks a lot for the reviews. I've really enjoyed watching them! "Nothing parties like a rental" "rides like pissed off teenager" Also no swearing after you took a dump on the High Tower, nice job :). I was thinking of the Bronson but you've convinced me to go with the 5010. Like you I have a mortgage and kids and I think my riding style might be a bit more reserved than what the Bronson wants. Please tell me I won't miss the extra 20 mm of travel on the Bronson.
    Thanks again
    -Ryan

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  8 років тому

      Ryan, I literally just walked in the door from riding the 5010... Depending on how and where you ride you might miss the extra 20mm's... I've loved the 5010 this past season but I'm replacing it with something a bit more plush. Up to this point I still haven't found a bike that handles the flow trails, tight turns as well as this bike... that's been my struggle but sometimes I get bucked around a bit on the 5010. Not a big deal but if I can find something that handles close to as well as this does on the slower flow trails and turn but rails the high speed chunk, I'll buy it. Good luck and if you end up with the 5010 I'm sure you love it... One more thing. The 5010 can feel a bit firm at the beginning of the stroke and if you're not riding it hard it can sometime feel a bit harsh. Most VPP suspensions are this way but it's more pronounced with the 5010 paired with this shock. I wish there was something that felt plush like the Bronson but snappier and more poppy. Something between the 5010 and Bronson. Anxious to see what the new Yeti SB5 is like... Good luck!

    Looking to get my first full suspension and have my eye on the 2018 5010. Also eyeing the Bronson also but it may be overkill for my simple trails. I enjoy the 27.5+ tire. Coming from only riding hardtails and currently owning a Salsa Timberjack, would you feel this is THE bike to get? Lifetime warranty is nice on these bikes it sounds like. Your overall impression of the bike is great too. My trails mainly consist of some ups and downs and mostly rooted grounds. Definitely no mountains unfortunately.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 років тому

      Santa Cruz just recently updated both the Bronson and 5010... I would for sure check them out and see what bike suites you and the trails you ride most! If you don't have overly mountaines trails, I would opt for the 5010 or Tallboy personally if I wanted a santa cruz... honestly, I would look at the Pivot Trail 429 as well... it's a very good bike for the type of terrain you've described. Good luck!

    Hey, Just came across the video. I picked up a 2016 5010 CC as well. Love it! Rediculous! I'm interested to know how you have the suspension set up. What pressures/# of tokens are you running in the Pike and the rear shock? I've found the recommended pressures to be a little stiff. Thoughts?

    Hi mate!, nice vid. We're the same height, I'm thinking of getting a size Small for the 5010. Waddya think? Will taking a size down make it a more playful bike?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  8 років тому +2

      syai3010, thank you! I would be to cramped on a small frame 5010. Every body shape is different. I have sort of longer arms and legs for my height. My advise would be to get the size that fits you best. I can't imagine the small frame would be more playful or easier to toss around as it's millimeters difference between sizes. Hope that helps and good luck. You'll love the 5010... incredible bike!

    Thanks for this video! I am looking to purchase an AM bike and went to the Santa Cruz demo on Saturday. I felt 100% comfortable on all of them and knew that I was getting one. Of course, I am stuck deciding whether to get the 5010, Hightower 29, or Bronson because they all climbed well and descended well. I also live in Utah and ride the same trails you do + Deer Valley, so this video helped me iron out my thoughts on the 5010 not being enough. I am thinking now it will be perfect. Thanks!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  8 років тому

      kasanman, glad the vid was helpful. The 5010 climbs a little better but on shorter rides without a lot of climbing you really don't notice it that much. The big difference and the real reason why I chose the 5010 is for how it descends.... much more lively and snappy. I love the Bronson and if I lived closer to some trails with more chunk and gnar I'd 100% consider the Bronson as my only mountain bike! GL!

    Considering going from Hightower to this bike.... can you jump and do drops on this bike ? Would you be able to take it down Jacobs ladder ? Overall is it built for everything if you have the skills to do so ?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 років тому

      Oddly enough I went from the 5010 to the Hightower haha, Yeah, this 5010 is a lot of fun but it starts to get a little overwhelmed at higher speeds and on terrain like Jacobs ladder or gnarlier terrain. If I were to ride the 5010 again, I would like to try it out with the Fox DPX2 shock and the for set to 140 or 150mm

    bike parks are really starting to grow well over here and am enjoying starting my MTBing again after such along time away.

      I'm looking right now...
      whyte t130 or g150 (2015/16 models)
      I've discounted any bike that has the rear shock down by the bb for mud reasons and ease of cleaning as I always did ride all year and intend to again.
      I'm not to sure if I'll ever go on the huge runs in Wales but do intend to go soon after I buy and go on the easier more flowing ones.
      if I do ever go on the big hitter runs I can hire a dh.

      keep up the great video's.... probably the only sun I'll be seeing for awhile lol

      The new SB5 looks incredible. Haven't ridden it yet. Think it might be a bit more bike than the 5010... maybe with a 140mm or 150mm fork the 5010 would be similar!

    • @Ihakmsnt
      @Ihakmsnt 7 років тому

      MTB yumyum thanks for the reply. The new SB5 definitely is looking sick and with good specs. I was told the SB5 would be faster on the tight trials and also climb a little better, so I'm not sure what to think. The SB5 has the biggest differential from front to rear suspension travel meaning that the rear only has 127mm and the front 150mm. Most bike in this category have very similar suspension travels both rear and front. I would really like to see more head-to-head videos of these similar bikes

    Hi , love your channel. What's the width size of the carbon Handlebar on your 5010? Is the the flat Santa Cruz carbon bar or the riser one ? Thanks

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  7 років тому

      20mm rise, 760mm wide. This may or may not be right for you. At 5'8" this works for me! A good test is to get on the ground in the push-ups position and do some regular or standard push-ups. This will likely be the optimal bar width for you. With a tap measure, measure from the outside of each palm of your hands... I measure 750mm good luck!

    Great channel! How does the 5010 compare to giant trance? I rode a trance advanced a week ago, climbs like a ht, only problem isyou can't go over rocks not kicking your pedals in- how is it compared to 5010 in this section? Thanks.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  7 років тому

      the 5010 also has a very low bottom bracket and suffers from pedal strikes in rocky sections. You learn to ride through it. The Trance is incredibly although, I think they've recently updated it.... both are excellent bikes! Trance probably climbs just a bit better...

      The new Trance has an almost identical BB height so pedal strikes might even be worse given that is has more rear travel.

    Great review, a test on the following coming up? Always been tempted by the 5010 due to the snappy handling it's said to have. I first found your Highchair (tower) review, another good review btw. I've ridden my mates 27.5+ version one time and pb'd a section to 2:35, 11s faster than my previous. Now I know the ole Strava can be a bit dickie but it would be a bit of a coincidence. Point is I knew at the bottom it felt quick and apart from the rear stepping out once drama free. Anyways, thanks again and cheers from the UK.

    hello! you are doing such a nice job riding and testing all those bikes for us. i live in italy and here it's very hard to get a demo bike, most of the time you have to be friend with the owner of the shop. i was wondering if it would be possible for you to test also xc bikes like the cannondale scalpel and fsi or the trek top fuel, scott spark or the specialized epic. i think it will be a good oportunity for you to increase your audience because if you'll look on youtube there are no real reviews about those bikes. here in europe the xc segment it's a very big one.think about it!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  8 років тому +1

      Thank you! You're right, I've not spent any time on these bikes. Up to this point I've been demoing bikes I would potentially buy myself. I don't see myself buying a full suspension XC bike so spending $60-$100 on a demo of a bike I don't have intent to buy is tough to justify. Maybe I'll demo one and be surprised though... we'll see next spring! Great suggestion, thx!

    Hey bro sorry to keep bugging you, I'm getting a bike tomorrow to replace my Bronson a rock caved in the downtube. Ok so 5010 or hightower 27.5+ it seems like the hightower has less traction in your videos. Am I reading that wrong? I'm down to one of those two. Thank you again

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  7 років тому +1

      I didn't love the plus (27.5+) on any of the bikes I've ridden it on..... Just don't think it does much in the way of added traction. Between the two bike you mentioned, I'd go 5010. But honestly depending on your terrain and how tall you are, I'd personally pick the Tallboy or Hightower 29er over the 5010....

    decided against the anthem advanced 2 after a demo ride in the parking lot. i hate the sram shifter. it req too much effort to move my thumb from the small lever back around to the larger front lever. so now back to a 5010 or tallboy with the shimano rx2 build. both are $2999. if you were to get one, which way would you go. i have an alum Niner Air9 now and wonder if i should try a little variety with the 27.5. i will be keeping the niner

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  7 років тому

      I really like the 5010 and the Tallboy... with that said, if the Tallboy was available when I bought my 5010 I likely would have gone that direction. It handles the descents as well as the 5010 but it climbs a little better and is just a faster bike. Can't go wrong with either bike imho! I'm considering the 5010 C S or the Giant Trance Advanced 1. They look comparable except for the composite rims and XT groupset on the Trance. Those upgrades demand a $350 higher price but it seems like money well spent. You mentioned demoing the Trance so help me make up my mind. :)

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  8 років тому

      Jason, tough choice... they are in my opinion 2 different bikes. If you were looking at the Trek Remedy and the Giant Trance I would say those line up very well. The 5010 won't be as plush as the Trance. Also, the 5010 will feel really firm at the beginning of the stroke where the Trance is not very firm at all. They both climb well and wouldn't say ones better than the other. The 5010 for me has to be ridden hard and fast to be fun. Let off the throttle and it can just feel sort of harsh... but man, it wants to pop off everything... is super snappy and quick. The Trance has these characteristics as well but you wouldn't describe the Trance in that way, meaning it's fun but not like super poppy and flickable like the 5010. Hope that helps. Honestly, just think about what you want out of your ride and what your trails are like... both are awesome bikes. I have carbon wheels and upgraded to some XT brakes and carbon bars... I don't think I could own a bike without carbon wheels after having spent the last season on these hoops. So nice and make a big difference imho! Good luck bro!

    You make great videos, I like your trails and you ride them well.
    Had my 5010 cc since Jan this year, mainly ride it on my local Scottish trails, had it for 4 weeks in the Alps and done a couple of enduros on it. It's an awesome bike, I find myself laughing out loud (LOL) on it. It does get a little 'buckie' when hitting rock gardens at speed, but it actually makes you pick lines and put more input into riding the bike. Geometry is slack enough to be stable when hitting steep trails, wheelbase long enough for high speed stability. I don't think I'll ever sell it, even after demoing a hightower. Well, owning two Santa isn't too extravagant, right :)

      Mike Peacock, glad you like the channel. I've loved the 5010 and like you feel it really handles most situations and terrain really very well. I echo pretty much everything you said. Thank you! Glad you're loving the 5010!!!

    • @mikeep666
      @mikeep666 8 років тому

      Hi David, I'm 5, 11 and went for the large. I've got quite long legs and shortish torso so my seatpost is quite high. The seat angle is relatively slack with the 150mm fork so this has resulted in quite a long cockpit. So I'm running a 35mm stem and have my saddle forward quite a bit. HTH :)
      I think the sizing chart on Santa's website is pretty spot on. It's just that my "dancers legs" make things a bit odd when I'm sizing bikes.

    Seriously great vid man. 5010 looks like a perfect fit! If you ever get to ride any Ibis, the Mojo 3 vs. 5010 would be an epic matchup! (Personally Mojo 3 is the best bike I ever ridden, it was XT build with 27.5plus, at Noble Canyon near San Diego, but then again I'm from FL, lol) Interestingly the Mojo 3 can ride 2.3s 2.5s and 2.8 tires...

      Piotr L, thank you! Glad you found the channel. The Mojo 3 is an absolutely incredible bike. I almost bought one even without riding it almost a year ago because of all the hype about Plus tires... I ended up running Nobby Nick 2.8 tires on my 5010 for about 2 weeks to see if I liked it. Long story short, I didn't love it and the larger 2.8 tire in the rear was rubbing the chainstay quite a bit. I'd like to get by hands on a Mojo 3 & HD3 to review.

      Nico Limchoc, The struggle is real... I love the Bronson and don't sell yourself short. It pedals really well, handles basically everything besides a DH coarse (for most peeps) and is still really fun and playful. The 5010 is just a bit more snappy and quick on the flow trails and that's what I'm riding 90% of the time. If you got the money to make it work and it puts a smile on your face then go for it but I'd have a hard time taking a bath on a bike... GL buddy!

    Hi, I am in the market for a new bike and most of the reviews I see seem to be from west coast riders with really nice down hills on trails that are somewhat smooth. I am an east coast rider and I deal with a lot of rock, roots and jumping over downed trees and such. I am interested in a Trek Fuel or Remedy or a 5010 not sure how the Remedy would handle in the woods with tight turns. I am still on a 26 Stump-Jumper, any advice, Thanks

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  7 років тому

      I also used to ride a Stumpy 26" All three would be good upgrades but between the 3 bikes I'd lean toward the 5010 or Remedy. I really liked the Remedy a lot for more gnarly trails. The 5010 is better everywhere else though... if you don't ride a lot of really gnarly terrain I'd go 5010. Good luck!

    great video! I have a 2006 Spec Epic comp which I have enjoyed many trails but it's time to a new bike. I really would like to go with Epic again but I would enjoy more a bike that I can enjoy all types of trails. Things have changed a lot since 2006 and I'm kind of lost. I have been checking the Spec Camber, Santa Cruz 5010, Yeti...I want something that rolls fast on flats, climbs and descend well. I'm 5'8" amd 136lbs and my epic is large. I live in Dallas, TX. What size is your bike? Wheel size? What are you thoughts on those 3 bikes mentioned above? Thanks

      @mtbyumyum  7 років тому

      I'll be riding a Santa Cruz Hightower 29er this year, size Medium. I'm 5'8" Maybe check out the Yeti SB4.5... incredible bike for what you've described. Good luck!

      I'll always sort of miss this 5010.... it was the most playful bike I've ever owned, loved the color and just overall feel of this thing... wish I had more money to keep it at the time but not possible and I really like the bikes I'm currently on now! Good times on this 5010!

      I picked a 2018 model up... I'm loving it... more than my remedy that I had... It's just more playful and poppy...

    hi! could u pls help me decide between trail bike Trek Remedy, Santa Cruz 5010, Bronson, Scott, Orbea.. tia

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  8 років тому

      This is a really tough decision. You really should demo some of these if you have access... If not, consider your trails, riding style and speed. If you're going similar speed as me on trails like what you see in these videos you'll be happy on any of the bikes you've mentioned. If you spend more time on steeper more rocky trails and still like to go fast lean more toward the Bronson. I would say the Remedy is in between the 5010 and Bronson in terms of handling the chunkier terrain. If your trails are flowy and buffed it's hard to beat the 5010. Good luck!

    Hi! SC 5010 vs. RM Altitude? Ty

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  5 років тому

      Altitude all day bro! Lighter weight, more capable in the chunk and just as snappy and lively feeling on the flow trails! Better pedaling suspension platform as well. You'll love it!

    Love my new 5010, like you I wanted a Bronson but couldn't justify it in my area.
    maybe is I live in Tahoe, Utah, or north shore I would have picked the bronson, but the SOLO is just so much faster and snappy on flowy stuff

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  8 років тому

      Owen, welcome to the channel! I agree 100% Every trail has it's tool and the SOLO just cleans up so well where I ride. Thanks for sharing!

    Looks great, I'm looking at this bike, and the giant trance 3, also like the Bronson but it's a bit over budget, not looking to spend over 3000

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  8 років тому +1

      Both are really very good bikes. You might get a little better build kit on the Giant but I like the geometry of the 5010 so well... tough choice. It's a great time to be a mountain biker with so many really excellent options! Good luck!

      Tj Lovin You might also want to look at a 2016 Yeti SB5 enduro. You can prob get one just a bit over your budget at $3150 and would be comparable to the Bronson if that's the type of bike you were more interested in with 150mm of travel.

    Surprised to hear the resale value point. I always think resale value. Not to be a major factor but a factor nonetheless. I tell my wife the high cost of these bikes less of an issue when you consider the resale value. That's why I always take care of my bikes very well. Some people think mtbs should be ridden hard and put away dirty, no frame protection or anything. No. Anyway, good point.

    Hi Jason. Found your channel as I was looking for Santa Cruz 5010 review. Thank you for putting out great videos!!! I'm kind of torn now. Competitivecyclist has 2 bikes on sales right now for about the same price - Yeti sb5/slx build with Reynold carbon wheels and Santa Cruz 5010 cc with XT. I'm more of a XC rider in southern california who will never be doing jumps (can't afford to risk and take the fall at the age of 45). Since you've ridden many bikes and own 5010cc, which one would you recommend? Thank you. (I have not had the chance to ride them at all).

      Moe, thank you and welcome to the channel! This is a tough question to answer. Both are incredible bikes and I obviously love my 5010. What a good deal at those prices also! Looks like the SC is set up 2x drivetrail and the Yeti is 1x... does this make a difference for you? Also, Do you plan to get carbon rims anyway? Really tough choice dude, I can't say what to go with. What one looks better to you? Sorry I'm not more helpful. The bb is higher on the yeti of you suffer from pedal strikes in your area this would be a bonus over the 5010... Good luck bro!

    • @moekyawphoto
      @moekyawphoto 8 років тому

      Thanks Jason for replying to my question with some good pointers. It was tough decision as they both look good to me and they both received good reviews. I ended up ordering Yeti as CC sweetened the deal a bit by allowing me to upgrade the components for a small surcharge, free shipping etc. I hope I made the right decision going with Yeti. I can hardly wait to try out my new bike.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  8 років тому

      Moe, don't think you'll regret going Yeti one bit... Everyone I know on that bike absolutely loves it! What upgrades did you do? Also, Reynolds makes some great carbon wheels!

    • @moekyawphoto
      @moekyawphoto 8 років тому

      It was XTR/XT components. I was settled on the upgrade from SLX to XT already but the deal offered to me for upgrade to XTR all around with XT cassettes was too good to pass by. It was my first time purchasing a bike online and my experience with CC so far has been great. Bike will come with tubeless setup ready to go. I can't be happier.

    Check out this article that singletracks did on resale value.

    Basically expensive or not you will loose almost half what you spent on your bike.
