      I heard a story on SWIM pod (I think) that they went into their first record and were told that they were technically dog shit. So they just decided to really lean into it and now they’re easily the most technically skilled bands out there. Even live, they just sound so clean. It’s really impressive

    The bass sounds so much better with a little more low end added to it. Yes, this would be a bit too much for the full mix, but it does sound very nice. The part around 1:30 is really cool

    • @rphoenix5908
      @rphoenix5908 Рік тому

      Yeah, I definitely agree. You'd have to cut more bass from the guitar, which I'd be fine with, but in metal with more downtuned guitars the bass is usually a signature part of the sound and helps to really get the "chugs". So either you take away some of the "chug" from the guitars, or you do what is pretty common in metal (like is done here) and make the bass guitar primarily fill in the even lower frequencies and some of the upper-mids.

    • @rphoenix5908
      @rphoenix5908 Рік тому

      I will say though, if you can get the bass and guitar tones to "meld" together well you can actually get away with less bass frequencies from the guitar and more from the bass guitar but still sound heavy, the key mostly is tight playing and using tones on bass and guitar that don't clash but instead blend together well when there's some overlap of frequencies. Rabea Massaad actually has some good videos on how to pull this off. (I think this is the one: ua-cam.com/video/FufBG-lkEtw/v-deo.html )

    Honest question, from 0:50 to the chorus, what was the intention of switching from guitar pick to traditional finger picking? Maybe I have bad ears, but I couldn’t really hear a tone/attack difference. Any insight on this would be cool and appreciated. Thanks!

    Amateur bassist here - when bassists use their thumb for the E string, is it more for aesthetics or is there a functional reason for it? I suppose it makes sense if your other fingers are at a weird angle, but I’m assuming. I don’t want to assume.
