I am in the UK and had my first recent bout of microscopic colitis in December 2022. I had it for three and a half months before it was diagnosed owing to the state of healthcare in this country and lost 12 pounds in that time. I did my own research, increased vitamin D, started taking vitamin B12, ate small amounts and chewed more thoroughly. I could not tolerate vegetables so ate more meat, took a daily small portion of sauerkraut and also natural greek yogurt. I would recommend Great Taste No Pain! by Sherry Brescia. I followed what she suggests for a number of gastroenterology problems as well as those I already mentioned. I found it even possible to eat fruit as long as it was on an empty stomach or at least 3 hours after eating and only drank water with fruit. I gave up caffeine. It took about a month following the above before my system gradually got back to normal and am hoping with care it will stay that way. I really prefer to use the natural to the pharmaceutical route. I hope this helps some of you as it is truly an awful experience to live with.

Problem is gastroenterologists don’t take biopsies when they don’t see anything with the naked eye to diagnose microscopic colitis it requires a biopsy when the gastroenterologist might not see anything wrong. Treat the patient’s symptoms!

American Gastroenterological Association, can you clarify based on recent research whether microscopic colitis should be considered benign or if patients are at a high risk of getting or progressing to ulcerative colitis and/or Crohn's Disease?
Many patients are very concerned and confused about the results of two articles that were published in October of 2021 that pertain to the findings of a Danish population based study and an overview of so called controversial topics on microscopic colitis. There is very minimal information available to patients that have reliable, trustworthy and plain language material on the disease.

I am a healthy 60+ woman and was diagnosed by colonoscopy with microscopic collagenous colitis. Took budesonide for two months and then my GI said go back to otc treatments (these never helped). I researched the causes and lisinopril was a rare cause. Stopped taking it and 2.5 months later, all of my symptoms resolved and have not returned in the following two years.

Hello, I have some questions, I would be very happy if you answer them. In my pathology report: Slight increase in ascending colon sections, colon mucosa samples, surface epithelium and crypt epithelium.
Lymphocyte entry is monitored. With trichrome, there is a slight increase in collagen in the subepithelial region. No additional findings regarding mucin were found. Although the findings are 'partial' support, if they are clinically compatible, it can be considered collagenous colitis.
What exactly does this mean? Everywhere I went, IBS was accompanied by stools, sometimes solid and sometimes liquid.
My questions are: Is this an autoimmune disease? Is there a margin of error in pathology? I recently had gastroenteritis and e.coli was detected. Calprotectin is low. Does microscopic colitis appear and disappear or increase due to this? I would be grateful if you could answer me. There are so few resources and so little information.

they just summarized the article. The first thing that is needed is to confirm the diagnosis of microscopic colitis via colonoscopy and rule out other possible causes of chronic diarrhea. A full work up by a competent gastroenterologist is needed. Treatment approaches may differ, depending on how bad a person's symptoms are.

Oh no, not another name for an unstable Microbiome (bacterial Gutflora). Yet, pretty clever to give the elders more pharmaceutical drugs.
Very sad for the exploited patients. Please try Glucosamine and Physillium husks before turning to heavy drugs.

So if I get rid of my colitis of one miserable year so far, it just goes into remission? Don't some people get rid of it for good? on 4th day of Budesimide. I already have almost normal stools but still too many, and I have tons of symptoms including severe insomnia (slept 1 hr last night).
