    I love how humble these two are, they never come across as ignorant. There is this stigma towards doctors that they are just supposed to somehow know everything about anything. But, when learning about something new, like finance, they are just like the regular people.

    First year medical student here and I can’t believe they haven’t built finance into the curriculum yet. I feel very fortunate to have the background that I do to be able to come out on top when I get out of training. The comparison to athletes is so true for too many physicians. After all those long years of training it feels like you deserve to spend some money, although this is true, those first couple years out can have a huge impact on your future wealth. Great conversation guys, can’t wait for next week’s episode!

    As a Dietitian who is in the middle of specializing and is in private practice it is 100% worth going private and partnering with various insurance companies. In terms of billing by the hour I can clear 200 to 300 an hour through ICD-10 billing codes. All while having a home office to see patients and registering the business as an LLC with some protection I have almost no over head, more write offs, and ALOT of money all while loving what I do and being protected and law abiding all at once. Go private and build a clientele asap!

They think you’re rich not remembering you’re human too and have responsibilities. I hope this open a lot of viewers eyes. Or you could go to Europe and study medicine in English (total tuition debt cost only 15k for 6-year track of medicine and surgery). Then try and take USMLE to get a U.S residency after, people have done it even tho it's a risk not coming back to the STATES practicing medicine....

    • @jamesamoh7340
      @jamesamoh7340 3 роки тому +2

      You’re a smart man. My sister did it and she’s back. One friend went to the Caribbean and she’s enjoying it - low debt, low expenses etc. You just have to study hard to pass and score well on USMLE. US IMG practicing residents and doctors are some of the happy doctors I have met.

      @@jamesamoh7340 I have been deeply looking into a medical school in Rome and of course other med schools in Europe. A good friend of mine lives there so if he could maybe let me live there for room and board I’ll be nice. Although my dad would kill me if I left across the country to study medicine, but I don’t see it any different since I won’t be seeing family much anyways during medical school due to the rigorous grind. If I go to Rome I’d of course have to try and learn Italian which I am sure it won’t be too much of an issue since I’ve had to learn English at an latter age. At this time I will still take the MCAT, but if Europe was the only school that accepted me for medical school then screw it I will study medicine there. I am sure I will enjoy Rome anyways.
      I am just hearing that I would have to re-due medical boards for my specialty if I come back to the states.
      My goodness wish I was born and living in Europe. It’s ridiculous how much America runs on a monopolist based society.

      Hey, Im an internal med doc here that graduated med school back in 2013. I can tell you it is extremely hard to get into residency now as an international grad. It is not worth it. Medical schools are popping up everywhere here in the states and are taking up all the free residency spots. Not to mention, getting into a competitive residency like ortho or whichever surgery - which is even harder.

    • @jamesamoh7340
      @jamesamoh7340 3 роки тому

      @@Karim-ik5ij for non U.S. IMG it’s harder especially with no U.S. hospital clinical rotation/experience. U.S IMG from the Caribbean schools are getting spots in general surgery, anesthesia, family medicine, internal medicine, and radiology. It’s true that it’s harder for other surgical specialties. If you’re young and get a spot in those mentioned specialties take it and later apply to surgical ones you like. Our neighbor went in pathology and later on applied to ortho and got in easy.

    It takes a lot of discipline to be frugal, but if you were raised in a low income family, you already know the frugal lifestyle, and are very comfortable with because you lives that way your entire childhood. Put it into perspective. When you have $300,000 of debt from undergrad and medical school that's accruing interest, And for 3-7 years post medical school you only made $60,000 gross a year. While that $300,000 kept growing. Also that $350,000 gross pay after taxes is actually net pay around $220,000. Not even including things such as overhead or insurance depending on how you practice.

    Investing in a Roth IRA that you can't use until retirement age isn't a solid move as a resident. You will be able to max contributions once you're a good few years into practice and end up with more. Paying into equities is smarter or building savings. Think about your financial plan in phases, it will change through parts of your life.
    Dr. Webb is smart to build a real estate portfolio for passive income. The interest monster is your biggest obstacle so when investing you might look at the interest plus principal cost for your loans each month and look at income from other investments. Where will your money work the most for you? Not all dollars are equal when you project the overall cost of loans to maturity and the potential investment income to that same point in time. Spreadsheets help take an Excel class on you tube.
    Living beneath your means is the best advice in here. That's great advice.
