Than it flashes back to him getting a bunch of derogatory info from self-proclaimed racists, taking a bus to Innsmouth (which is basically the economically disadvantaged fish-people ghetto), where he gets a "you're not welcome here" vibe from the people he's openly gawking at with disgust and disdain while ONLY talking to the other humans who also hate everyone there. The most violent thing the Deep One's actually do is kill outsiders (who generally hate and want to exterminate them), and their ancestors apparently had some kind of violent campaign against apostates in the 1800s after the town converted to the Deep One faith and than tried to convert back to their old religion. Bad, but not exactly different from human behavior at the time. This is more accurate depiction of as-described Deep Ones than any movie adaptation of Shadow Over Innsmouth.

I remember watching this movie at the theater when it was released and i remember i found it completely idiotic. The protagonist and her friend were literally everyday cleaning workers except they were working on a top secret facility that holds prisoner a sentient, unknown to the world creature who's used by mad scientists and deviant government agents as a guinea pigs for experiment. You guys all know project Manhattan and how secret it was. It's not like a nornal guy could have ever entered in the project Manhattan facility like that and walk around like nothing. In the movie i recall the atmosphere was just surreal. Why would 2 cleaner be allowed to walk around in a top secret government zone like that hahahah. Then i remember the scene where the protagonist fills with water an entire room by closing with a towel the space between the door and the floor. She literally filled the entire room, top to bottom, using only the water that comes out from a normal faucet. Like come on, what the fuck. Honestly, this movie is just terrible and it's shame because Del Toro is a beat director and i love him.
I mean all movies have ridiculous unrealistic things occurring/ in the story. It depends, if Sci fi type magic was happening in the movie then I would forgive the sink thing. I think the point of the movie was to focus more on the drama/ emotion.
I watched this movie, it's name is, *_'The Shape of Water'_* it's very good movie. She a mute cleaning lady at a research center, the creature isn't a monster, but a mermaid of sort and was captured to study at this center,. She has a connection with him, the mermaid of sort....hell how she does? I don't know. She helps him to excape and hides him in her bathroom....but you need to watch the movie..
