    QUESTION : Do you own the 40-150 f2.8 or f4? What's your experience with them.

    • @alexanderpieri1971
      @alexanderpieri1971 3 дні тому +2

      Very good review. I owe this 40-150 f4, because it’s lightweight and small. To me, because of my back problems, I can’t carry much heavy weight on my backpack, so for me portability and lightweight is very important. So, having a combo withOm-5, 12-40 f2.8, Leica 9mm f1.7 and this lens is just great! I used to have 12-100mm f4, but at long run it turn is heavy for me. For a Pro photographer this issue might sounds ridiculous but to me as amateur is important. The image quality of this lens is truly supremely good and I was surprised. Even on high-res shot handheld in blue hour the image quality of this lens was a pleasant surprise. The weight of this lens is the same of zuiko 12-40 f2.8. I’m glad for a purchase of this lens.

      @alexanderpieri1971 The lens is indeed very good quality wise. And your setup doesn't sound strange to me. I totally get that there is a limit to what you feel confortly with when walking around. I'm actually starting to consider things like this to make a lightweight kit and a really heavy-duty kit. This lens would suit perfectly in the lightweight version. Thanks for watching and sharing the comment. Grt guido

    Thanks. Nice comparison. I tend to use the 12-45 f/4, the 40-150 f/4, the 14-150 and the 20mm f/1.4 with my OM-5. I program MF to the 1-2 switch to work with these lenses, since none of them have the MF clutch. These lenses and the OM-5 are all weather-sealed, and the lenses balance well with the OM-5. This "package" is my go anywhere / any-weather kit for hikes, travel, city walks, etc. I grab a lens and the OM-5 and head out.

    3 Legged Thing has great quality and has dedicated L bracket for Om-1 mk. 1&2. I bought from them universal QR11 2.0 L bracket, which is twice less expensive than dedicated one, to use with E-M1X. Tried it also on Panasonic G95 and Olympus OM-5 and it works fine on both. Your landscape photos are simply great! Thank you!

    Hi Guido. I have the f4 version due to its size and weight, and find the image quality very good. For the type of photograph I do, the 12-40 f2.8 pro is the lens I use the most, and then the 40-150 f4 when I need extra reach. Really enjoy your channel, keep up the good work 👍

    Guido, you can go to page 1 of the AF menu an turn on AF+MF and then you do not need to assign MF to a separate button. You just need to be careful not to move the focus ring when you want to AF.

    The 40-150mm f2.8 is an almost must-have for MFT. It‘s build-quality, speed and sharpness are gorgeous. I use it a lot with the MC-14 adapter.
    It is a bit big and heavy though, that‘s why I actually do consider the f4 version.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  15 годин тому

      Compared to the f4 it is bigger and heavier but compared to other systems it's quite small. But they both are excellent lenses you can't go wrong with either of them. Thanks for watchibg and sharing your thoughts. Grt guido

    L bracket for om1 I or ii is Three legged thing model Ollie xd about £70. Very well made and so versatile and can be adjusted to suit your way of working. I used to have the 2.8 but recently swapped for the 4 which I find much lighter to carry and I don’t miss the manual focus as I use mf assist from the menu. Like your channel one of the best for landscape photography. Keep up the good work.

    Yes nice job. I use this lens on the g9ii which has a dedicated on body mf switch. it’s so good for urban photography. It really accentuates the benefits of m43. There is nothing else with this image quality for the size and weight. I mean, one handed shooting at 300mm looking like a tourist with a kit lens 👌. I’ll take this, the leica 9mm and the 20mm 1.4 and be happy to do anything, anytime, anywhere on earth with one small bag. Seems like everyone would want this lens.

    Thanks Guido. I always enjoy your videos. To answer your question, I own and love the 40-150 f2.8 Pro but have had to replace itslens hood twice in the past five years . I own the 12-40 f 2.8 Pro as well but have also had to replace its lens hood twice. My most used and favourite all purpose lens is the 12-100 f4 Pro and despite it practically living on my camera, I have only had to replace it lens hood once,. At least it was easily attributed to the cumulative of many knocks accumulated over several years. In comparison, I can't even figure out how the other four hood casualties were damaged as they seemed to spontaneously deconstruct in use or in my camera bag. Despite the growing costs of replacing lens hoods, I am definitely not ready to part with any of the three lenses.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  3 дні тому

      Seems like you have a serious bad relation with lens hoods haha. But I agree those thibgs are quite expensive so it takes a lot of moneybox replace them. Guess I'm one of the lucky once. I did glue my 12-40 f2.8 lens cap. That fell apart a few years ago but since then it works perfectly again. Thansk for watchibg and sharing your thoughts. Grt guido

    I have both - originally I expected to use the f/4 (and 12-45 f/4) as a lightweight kit with E-M5 for travel, with the 2.8 for more “serious” work. However, since I rarely need to use aperture lower than f/4 for telephoto, and I rarely use the f/2.8 these days. But one major plus for the 2.8 is that you can use it with 1.4 and 2.0 Teleconverters.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  3 дні тому

      I rarely use the converters but that's mainly because I always take a 100'400 with me. But what I've heard and seen they work great on the 2.8 version. Thanks for watchibg and sharing your comment. Grt guido

    I have both. Bought the f2.8 first then a few years later, the f4. Now the f2.8 stays in its bag, and I use the f4, simply because it’s light, and I’m much older. Yes, the image quality is good, even though I miss the clutch on the f2.8, and have the AF+MF turned on for my OM5, and use a function button on my EM1mkiii.

    So.... I want either the 2.8 or the f4. The only two lenses I ha e for my lumix g9ii are the 25 1.2 and the 12-40 2.8.
    I do landscapes and sports photography (baseball and swimming) with a little bit of portrait work mixed in.
    Based on that what would you recommend for my usage

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  22 години тому +1

      I am assuming that swimming can be indoors and due to the movement you need fast shutter speeds. I would go for the 2.8 then without a doubt. You cab also add a telecobverter on that one in case you want a little more reach in the future. Rhe usability of that lens is also better. Hope this helps your choice! Yes have both of these Lenses and agree with you, my f2.8 version is one of the best BUT my f4 is almost as good, both have a dedicated spot in my kit and I love both of them for different reasons, the small one for the OM-5 and the bigger one for the OM-1, if I could only have one though it would be the f2.8 as combined with the tele converters it's so much more versatile, the f4 is so compact though, just buy both!!

    Thanks for the review Guido and the very nice images. About the L bracket I have for years a second hand one from RRS for my EM 1.2 and they are second to none, as I'm concerned. I would definitely buy the RRS for a future om-1, even though I always say it's not worth the money. The 3 legged thing is a lesser alternative, because you don't have the extended grip, which you do have with the RRS. A better alternative to my opinion is the FOLDING GRIP FOR OLYMPUS OM SYSTEM OM-1 from the firm STC. Good luck.

    Others have commented on the Ollie L bracket. I will note that the new version is smaller, lighter and cheaper than the original which I have. I'm afraid I disagree about the focus clutch which is a nuisance when it disengages accidentally and the lens won't focus. I use the function switch for manual focus whether the lens has a clutch or not. Love the images too.

    OM-1 L-brackets: this is something I'm actually considering at the moment. I was looking at 3 Legged Thing's Ollie, but some youtuber (can't remember who right now) turned my head with the idea of a Smallrig mini cage, with a small belt-clip QR plate screwed onto the side. (or even... on top!) Both a similar price in the UK, just under £100. Not what _I_ might call cheap, but feels like a bargain compared to that RRS price!

    I currently don’t own either but have been considering the f4 version simply as a travel lens. Only thing holding me back is I own the 12-100 f4 that I absolutely love. But am thinking 12-45 f4 (I own) and addition of 40-150 f4 and my panny 15 would be great for a small sling bag as walk around.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  4 дні тому

      With the 12-100 f4, it feels a little too much to add the 40-150 f4. Maybe it's better to look for a 100-400 then, but that is a lot heavier. I think for the lightweight kit you have in mind, these lenses are perfect. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. Grt guido

      @originaljamtracks 4 дні тому +1

      Hi, came across your comment and can add my experience if it helps you. I initially had the 12-100 and loved using it. I then thought about going he same route you describe - opting for the 12-45 f4 and the 40-150 f4 as a kit. They were both superb lenses and I particularly enjoyed using the 40-150 f4 which has been one of my favourite m43 lenses ever.
      But after a few months, I founf myself really missing the 12-100. It is the ideal all-in-one lens (as you will already know as an owner of it), and the additional image stabilisation with IS sync really adds to its appeal and allows for even slower shutter speeds. When I changed to the 12-45 and 40-150 kit, I also missed not having to change lenses. It was such a convenience to be able to head out with just a single lens and know that I could capture almost anything with it, and not have to stop to change lenses on the go.
      Long story short, I sold the 12-45 and 40-150, and purchased the 12-100 again, anc couldn't be happier. The 12-45 and 40-150 are both superb lenses and never disappointed in their performance. But I think you may miss the convenience and IS of the 12-100, which is such a special lens.
      Just my two cents, maybe it helps you to make a decision.

      Thanks for input. Yes could not sell 12-100 it just gets to much use. I do own the 100-400. Yes 40-150 is a bit to close to 12-100. This is one i have been thinking on awhile.

    i Say (not proofed) it is the same lens like the f 3.5-5.6 Version (with better housing) At least the image Quality.

      I have no idea if that is the case but the image quality was really good. It really surprised me for such a good lens. Grt guido

    Hi Guido ... ik denk dat je conclusie helemaal juist is. Voor het professionele werk wat jij doet, is de f2.8 natuurlijk de perfecte lens. Voor enthousiaste hobbyisten zoals ik die met een sling op pad gaan en 2 honden voldoet de kleinere, lichte f4. Overigens heb ik de 12-100 f4 (stoere lens) gisteren ontvangen en daar ga ik denk ik heel veel plezier van hebben met het maken van foto's van de honden en hun pups. Overigens ik las in de comments waar iemand de instelling AF MF opperde ... ben ik ook aan het uitproberen met focus peaking 😅 Leuk dat je ook dit soort reviews doet. Hartelijke groet

      Ik gebruik zslf eigenlijk altijd af-mf en ik kwam er vandeweek achter dat die uitgeachakeld was. Heb net voor de frankrijk trip noeuwe software op de mkii gezet dat zal weleens de oorzaak geweest kunnen zijn. Die 12-100 f4 ga he veel plezier aan beleven! Bedankt voor het kijken weer. Grt guido

    Hi Guido. I want to purchase a lens for my om1mkii that could reach 600 mm efective focal lenght, and maximum optical quality but I also need to be very lightweight, so this lens looks very nice although it is not compatible with teleconverters. I wonder if this 40-150 could work effectively to AF when used with the 2x digital teleconverter active. I suppose that is not a very good alternative for bird AI AF but I will appreciate if someone with this gear could give it a try and tell me about the results. Thanks a lot!

      It's a shame because I returned the lens last week so I can't try it. But my experience with the digital zoom is very bad. It's just a crop in body and usually looses a lot of quality. Grt guido

      Get 75-300. Very light n process BIF raw phtos with DxOPure Raw. Or 100-400mm not light but amazing upto 325mm.

    Just pitch the lens hoods!😂 Haven’t used one in a decade. Modern optics you shouldn’t need one anyways.

      I think certain angles of the sun you can't go without but I use them more as protection then anything else. Specially when it's wet outside. Saves a lot of lens cleaning. Thanks for watching and your comment. Grt guido

    Get an L Bracket. once you use it you'll ask yourself why I didn't get this sooner. You don't have to pay 300 euros for a right stuff bracket. there are other brackets out there for lees equally as good as right stuff

    • @GuidoVanDeWater

      I once thought that I would never use an L bracket, but I'm definitely turning when it comes to that. And no, I'm not going to spend so much money on the rrs. I'm just gonna search for a good cheap alternative. Thanks for watching and your comment. grt guido
