Additional Info that didn't make it into the video:
1. The installer now works with Ventoy
2. "root account has to stay disabled because it breaks other things if kept enabled" - Nickname, Bazzite Contributor
3. You can also swap the ROG buttons and Start and Select in Handheld Daemon, but this may break some games that have you hold start/select potentially? Personally I don't know of any that require holding start or select but it's possible there is one or two games out there that do.
And how do we get that hdd screen?
Also with SteamOS, you restore the deck ability to pause/sleep
note that users should NOT setup a root account, as recommended by the bazzite devs. The regular user you setup will be able to do superuser actions with sudo
That is fair!
This is correct I tried with root access and it was a nightmare for a new Linux user had reinstall bazzite now it just installs things easy
the latest installer removed the ability to create root
Nice to see you cover Bazzite. Running it on my gaming desktop right now in addition to my Legion Go.
yeah swap start select thing, makes the steam-cords work with a workaround..
Anyone know how to adjust the thumb stick LED brightness?
Can I use Clover Like on the Steam Deck for Dual Boot?
When installing the OS i have an error "device is active" on the ROG ALLY.. any help?
I had the same issue, the fix was to insert the ally nvme into another pc and delete the partitions through powershell
Go into the windows OS and turn of quick boot (in the power profiles), and then turn of bitlocker or drive encryption. Then go the the bios and disable quickboot and security like he did in the video.
already change the theme to affect button too, you just need to delete the ally theme first and ujust again
Good afternoon. My rog ally has the defect if the arsenal and command center buttons, in addition to m1 and m2, and the lights do not work. many rog ally had already happened. this problem. Is there any way to open decky other than through the command center?
Your command center and arsenal buttons don't work?
Like they don't work on ANY OS? Or just Bazzite?
@@HiTechLoLife they don't work on any OS. I've already reinstalled Windows 11 several times, and I've updated and downgraded the bios several times. If you look for it, it's a common ally defect.
How do you get to the fan curve controls? I couldn't find it.
Search ROG in your applications
Be aware unless the latest update to Bazzite has changed this you can not completely disable RGB (I haven't checked if any Decky Plugins can). You can turn the brightness right down via OpenRGB on the desktop or in Gamemode by ensuring the controller is set as a Dual Sense Edge controller to get RGB control. So they appear off. But when going to sleep the RGBs will be on as that seems to be H/W controlled.
So would the 6850m egpu work?
Just setup Bazzite over the weekend. I gited my Steam Deck a while back and its nice to go back to a real gaming OS.
great video!
unfortunately i can't apply the rog-ally-theme to replace the steam graphic
Did you select and apply the ROG Ally SPB in your profile in the CSS Loader ?
How do you "active" it ?
thank you in advance!
You run the command, then go to CSS Loader and enable the theme.
This singlehandily convinced me to buy the rog ally finally. Windows was the biggest reason I did not do it. Thanks for the tutorial!
You sound like a Postal dude
Would I be able to use my xg mobile ?
I can't say for certain. I don't have an XG Mobile to test with and those are QUITE expensive.
Is just my ally that's constantly booting to a black screen? I'm only able to open by accessing the terminal and enter the command, steamos-session-select plasma
What card game is that?
Balatro. It's a poker roguelike it's pretty good
How's the battery life ?
Needs more solid testing. I predict it should be similar since the hardware inside is still the main deciding factor.
The great battery life of the Steam Deck is due to its custom APU thats optimized for low power efficiency, not SteamOS.
@@conchobar low power and weak
Are you going to do a battery test to see if Bazzite can save battery life?
Perhaps but I don't have a 2nd ROG Ally to do a head to head test so I'll have to base my data on my existing ROG Ally data that I have
It doesn't save battery life in my testing. Watts are the sams regardless of the OS. The reason the SD is so much more efficient is due to the custom APU made for handheld. The ally has a laptop 7840u APU without the AI.
@@V1CT1MIZED I know it shouldn’t be any different. Lots of people say the reason why the Deck lasts longer is due to Linux completely forgetting why valve went with a custom APU for a reason
I'd say battery life can be better, just because the user can be more granular in setting the TDP, but then again ASUS has been pretty good in there updates so idk.
@johndavis29209 can be, but in reality not. Once you start going below 10w on the Ally, the OS starts to lag and the audio starts to crackle.
Anything is better than Microsoft Cancer OS on a handheld
Is it possible to dual boot this so you can “get the best of both worlds”? (Hannah Montana, 2006).
yep, just look up bazzite dual boot setup videos on youtube
Yup! I don't have a guide for dualbooting myself but there are some other guides. Just be sure you have a sufficient amount of space for both OSes.
Trim your nails, for the love of whatever fictional character you believe in 🥲
