  • The New Atheists convinced millions of people that if we abandon religion, the world will become more rational, more scientific, and more logical. Here we are after more than two decades of mass conversions to atheism, and how are the predictions working out for everyone?

I lost my faith in God when I thought he failed me.
What I finally realized was I failed myself and everyone around me failed me.
God was the only one that didn't fail me even when I shunned him.
After I asked for forgiveness and prayed to be saved. He still didn't fail me.
I won't be a radical religious person hating others for being different, but I will continue to put my faith in God and try to be the person he wanted me to be.
In Jesus Christ name, I pray. Amen.

When you are given what you want, it's God's direction.
When you don't get what you want, it's God's protection.
I shunned him for similar reasons. I was recently diagnosed with autism, which explains, for me, why my friendships and relationships have always been wafer thin. No matter what I asked for I felt I was denied by God. As difficult as it is to develop friendships and relationships for "regular" people, it was borderline impossible for me to not only do so, but also hold onto them. It also hindered my ability to hold down a career for myself because I struggled with autism everyday of my life without knowing it. All of this stopped me from having the things I yearned for in life, everything was extra hard and frustrating, and I was angry at God because of that. I just couldn't understand why.
Now, after being diagnosed, I realized I was being protected. Had "life" given me exactly what I wanted, there would be a pretty good chance I'd end up in a much worse situation, especially when a lot of others are so selfish and narcissistic these days. I'd be easily taken advantage of. God protected me from all of that. But my ego, generational privileges, ungratefulness, and the lack of humility I displayed blinded me from seeing this. From the negatives and the evil of the world, I began to see God much more clearly, and so I have returned to him and asked him for forgiveness. I want to learn how to have a relationship with him because I never actually tried. I spent my time asking him for stuff.

Part of it I can blame on COVID, part on lack of effort (as I had to focus on work to ensure I had enough to live), bust mostly on that spiral of isolation and self-isolation. My eldest sister was a big "new atheist" fan. She sent me, a Christian man, Sam Harris's book, The End of Faith.
She sent it with what seemed like an apology; a sort of, "I'm sorry, I know this is going to hurt your illusions, but I owe you the truth."
I read it twice, and I must say it was a hoot! As a work of polemics, it was flat awful. I wrote a series of essays to send to my sister that I titled, "The Sam Harris Files". I only ended up sending her one... The one that focused on Harris's moral imperatives. That book was absolutely stocked full of moralistic posturing. But it also discussed how consciousness was a materialistic phenomena and how personhood was an illusion. So the self was unreal and all our thoughts are the result of chemical reactions in our bonebox. And yet, somehow there was this obligatory right and wrong being handed down from the heights of an atheistic Mount Sinai. Harris is a scream.

@@rougebaba3887 She's probably quieted down because the New Atheist experiment is not just not working, its failing in great dramatized swoops.
Replace Objective Moral Value with Relative Moral Emotional foolishness, and you get a Western World that begins to plummet into chaos and inconsistency.
      Example:
The people crying and rioting about Palestine being victims of Jewish Oppression and calling, unironically, for the destruction of the Jewish state (by simply supporting Hamas), are the same people who, unironically, call anyone Right of the Extreme Left as "Nazis" or "Fascists".
While utilizing all the textbook stratagems and tactics of what the Nazis and Fascists performed to gain political power, through force predominantly.
Create a stupid public that has little moral backbone, will support what's "easy" rather than what's right and true, and you have yourself an army of Useful Idiots, as Lenin liked to call them.
Either she's realizing the foolishness of what she thought was great...
Or she's doubling down and just choosing not to address you since you gave her a repose and she could not argue it because Atheism, per C.S. Lewis, is simple. It requires no brain power to be an Atheist, merely contention and rhetoric. Much like being a Pacifist Christian.

@@michaelwalters5432 making something readable only to follow it with crass humor is always an enjoyable format I find. It also helps at least with those who may agree with you, understand the absurdity of that which they are against.
An more valid way to observe what I outlined is to simply watch laymen atheist debate this stuff. Like with Dillahunty vs Andrew, where Dillahunty used his opening statement not to condemn Christianity for being false but to lambast it for political issues. Andrew then proceeded to basically flip the statement for his opening claim to say that the political issues Dillahunty had were actually bad and untrue.
Dillahunty then got pissed and claimed Andrew had moved off topic (despite basically having the same opening Dillahunty did), then proceeded to use that to flee the debate (which Andrew decided to cover the refund).
The even more dumbfounding part is that the audience poll of MDD showed most believed that Dillahunty had won the debate. Dillahunty literally made the debate about butt stuff and cosmetic genitalia surgery, and somehow the mostly atheist audience of MDD thinks Andrew is wrong for following Matt's lead with the rejection of his presuppositions.

    Matthew 12:43-45
    New International Version
43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”

This was all those modern 'schools of thought' out of Germany and Austria, these 'critical scholarship' types, this was the real revolution of modern atheism. His grandfather also had some profound distrust in the actual religious structure. Catholic or Lutheran they were all 'phonies' to him sort of attitude,
    AND,
He told us how they never missed a Sunday. Church everything as usual, get dressed in Sunday best, do the services, the Baptisms, the everything. we thought that sounded 'contradictory' sort of thing but he old guy just said "oh, ya because he said it was good for the family".
If you get the idea here. Even if he denounced it and was an 'atheist' he was fully aware that our society has to work on its foundations, that its a good thing that everyone goes to a place and is reminded to 'love your neighbor' and try not to be a dick.
It's a good thing that your family does that on Sunday together. even if he sits there convinced it's all BS.

Atheist here ! I’m with Dawkins on his assessment. I truly appreciate your bulwark against retrograde and militaristic religions such as Islam. Same with Sam Harris and Hitchens . Who didn’t see all religions as equally bad. You came on my radar with your unjust treatment in Dear Born Michigan a few years ago . Your principled and courageous stance against such systemic evil was truly admirable. I appreciate your humour , tenacity, intelligence and earnestness in combating the sinister encroachment of the Mohamedan cultists .
Now concerning the endemic religious disenfranchisement of people in the west and its resulting negative effect on the civic atomization, I totally agree with the diagnosis. Seen it coming a few years back with the rise of wokeism and the ever increasing number of militant indoctrinated students. What’s less evident is the antidote . With the advent of modernity and the ever increasing commingling of different cultural and religious tribes, it isn’t evident where one should affiliate oneself with, if any. If the benefits of religious engagement is synonymous with stronger community, and I agree it does. Should it matter then with which one, one decides to join?
Why not join Isis ? They are very tightly nit . Or why not the snake wrangling Baptists ? They seem very close . Or join Jones town ? They were as tight as it gets. Just be a Christian… which one ? Isn’t there over 30 000 denominations? With widely differing interpretations of the gospel. Maybe follow one of the prominent young earth creationist churches? There’s quite a few of them in America. Fundamentalist, reformist…. Omitting the fact that I don’t believe in the existence of god such as iterated by anyone or any institutions . The man made nature of religion and its lack of universalism through time and space can’t be ignored. The only thing I can observe is that living in Christian dominated societies life is measurably better. That said, it’s success is also it’s Achilles heel. The Marxist and woke cannon has eerily similar characteristics of Christian tropes. The unwavering elevation of tolerance and non judgment over all other virtues seems untenable. These are not trivial matters. Apparently salvation hinges on ( picking the right brand) . At best , I could subscribe to the Jordan Peterson brand , where it’s about Meta narratives , and acting as if god exists . At least that keeps us accountable to the highest level. Can one fake such things? Would it be desirable? Why the subterfuge to pierce gods mind?
The constant warring between those who claim to speak for god , how tiresome and redundant. Actions speak louder than words. According to the unending menagerie of clergy and holy interpreters, we are all heretics , somewhere, somehow.
To denigrate those who are justifiably reticent as deniers , seems quite tired . That rhetoric can easily be turned the other way. Seems very disingenuous and repellent to the skeptics.
Wonder if all honest players will be able to get at the table and disentangle this mess ?

The denomination is outright regardless in this case. Yes, there are denominations that have different traditions, but there are denominations that are outright mockeries of the church, and in reality are scams and/or Satanic rituals. The very meat of Christianity, the very core message of Christianity isn't about how good you do works, or if you repented of your sins, or how much tithing you give. The core message of Christianity is that Christ has died for you, and triumphed over death for you. Christianity isn't realizing how good of a person you are, but rather the opposite: how bad of a person you are, how much of a sinner you are. It is that realization where you need Jesus. No amount of good works or repentance of your sins will get you away from God's judgement. But if you have faith in Jesus thereof, then God's mercy will wash you clean for an eternity. It matters not the denominations, but the core message. Jesus did not say, "I am a way, a truth, and a life, repent of your sins and do good works to see the Father." Jesus said, "I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE, no one comes before the Father but through Me." In other words, faith in Jesus is what is needed for salvation, not good works or repentance of sins.

I’m a Christian of 30 years. I had a lot of bad or mediocre experiences in churches over the years and even gained two degrees in Theology at seminaries which undermined my faith in the Bible. Eventually I left church, but continued in my faith and tried being a Christian on my own feeling I had no place in God’s church. Eventually, I felt God close every door of opportunity for work to me and I had a lot of time to think and read. I feel God has brought me to repentance and forgiveness and I am now cautiously attending a church. I feel God is opening up my spiritual eyes. We need each other. God doesn’t want us cut off, but wants healing and restoration to His church.

I have just decided to give the bible a chance as not to judge a book by its cover and found much more in it than in any other scientific literature. Now I pray almost every evening, I am thankful to God for the happiness I have in life, for my friends and my family. I have become much more mentally stable, sociable and I feel a stronger sense of integrity, purpose and place in the community and the world as whole. This is a significant area being looked into. There's numerous studies showing that birth rates are lowest among atheists in western countries. While religious folks of every religion in western countries, are still having children. Not as many children like religious folks in Africa, Asia and other places. However atheists are just not having any children or are having few children, compared to religious folks in western countries who are reproducing.
Europe is an excellent example and there's research backing this up. And if atheists aren't reproducing as much, in decades to come, religious folks will out breed them. And atheism will likely decline significantly because there'll be no descendants of atheists to carry on their beliefs.

@@HopeKuhn No not really, Christmas isnt about the birth of Jesus for most people anymore. I said I miss it having feeling and meaning because of this. I think its lost this because its become more of a retail event and a big party instead of being about the symbolic birthday of Jesus. Thats the meaning bit. I dont think I'm wrong to have a good feeling about it. Buying stuff and getting drunk dont give you such a good feeling as remembering the birth of Jesus. Maybe its where I live but Easter ties into a much older pagan celebration of spring. In my climate anyway plants go dormant, appear to die, then start to come back. Giving the appearance of coming back to life around Easter time. Easter has become a commercial thing for most. Im just saying it could have more meaning than that. The rebirth of Jesus as well as life coming back all around us in spring. Yes I get it, but i dont get whats wrong about adding some personal interpretation that for me anyway adds significance to the events. Sorry you think ive broken some kind of rules. I dont think that attitude helps in bringing people into christianity. I think faith should be open to some kind of personal interpretation to the world around you. I even tried non denominational Christianity several times. It all rang hollow. Then I did a deep dive into early Christian history (I was attempting to "prove" that the Bible had been corrupted). This video brought a new learning and insights of what I had been thinking about for many years into a clearer definite picture of my understanding regarding why a Christian community is so important in my life and why I believe that other young people should not lose a sense of belonging to a community.
To keep it short, when I was a young christian, I faced a greiving lost of my father who was also a devout christian. I left the church and had no where to find comfort and peace. Grieving alone was painful to me.
By the grace of God, God sent good people who were christians, into my life at an unexpectedly right time.
I begun to join the community again and that sparked a search to know more about God and healed my broken heart in the process. I also found the concept of a community to be important in ones life and went on to study about humanities & sociology in my education.
A community brings about stronger connections, forms solidarity and overcomes solitude and lonliness. The sad thing these days is that people have the desire to want to be apart of a community but they don't see the actual value of being apart of it, partially because on an individual level we are losing the ability to socially connect with one another.

This was such an interesting video. I was born in Poland to catholic parents but my family (as well as my mothers side of the family) moved to Germany when I was a baby. Then my uncle died in a car accident and my father fell into deep depression. He met a man who told him about Jesus and eventually both my parents converted and became protestants. Our family in Poland shunned them and that made my parents even more religious. They joined a pentecostal church and only years later my father became a pastor and created his own polish-german church. Ngl, my childhood and youth were a nightmare (very extreme and strict worldviews) which led to me becoming an atheist as soon as I moved out.
Over time I saw how miserable all my atheist friends around me were and as I grew older and my entire family here in Germany became more openminded, wiser and grounded in their faith it has also become obvious how much more of a fulfilling and happy life they had in comparison to me and my peers. I am agnostic and an outsider in my family. I am lonely and have been struggling with depression myself for years and I wonder now how much can be attributed to a lack of spirituality in my life. However, every time someone talks to me about the Bible and christianity (or any religion for that matter) evry fiber in me opposes it. The trauma of my upbringing is just too strong. But I do believe in God. I just refuse to believe that God is judgemental or that we are supposed to go around and convert people. I gotta find out how to make peace with God and myself. Thanks for this video.

I'm sorry for the length of this post. But it's a story that I came up with that truly explains the situation of the West. You can call it a parable.
Once upon a time, a lion ruled over the forest. The animals feared him and dared not disobey him because they were scared of him.
The lion, over time, saw how the animals feared him. He decided that he no longer wanted to be feared, but loved. He opened up to the animals, vowing not to hurt them. He lifted all the restrictions he placed on the animals, accepting that the animals needed to live in happiness, not fear.
But when he did this, the animals started taking out their anger on him. They beat him, abused him, wounded him, and weakened him. As this was happening, a beast from another land came to the forest. The beast started convincing the animals that the lion was weak and had lost his power. The beast forcibly put down any animal that spoke against him and silenced them. Despite this, more and more animals believed that the beast was just another animal. He couldn't possibly be worse than the lion, right?
As more and more of the forest was ravaged by the beast, the animals realised something. The lion was protecting them. The restrictions were to protect them from the danger outside the forest. And even with the restrictions, the animals had more freedom than under the evil beast. With the lifting of the restrictions and the weakening of the lion, the beast had the perfect opportunity to take over and devour the forest.
How does the story end? Does the beast kill the lion and take over, ravaging the forest and subjugating all animals to his terror? Or do the animals rally in support of the lion while he makes a valiant stand against the beast?
If you didn't get it already, the lion is the Christian faith, the animals are Christians who lost their faith to atheism and wokeness, and the beast is the Islamic faith. How do you want the story to end?

I think the best way for non-believers to conceptualize this idea is that there is a sort of balance of minds between the rational and the emotional. We fight so hard for rational thinking because it generates the best progress, however rationality is equates to logic. And Logic while a useful tool is not a good end goal for all society. Mainly because we are not 100% rational actors. Our emotions play a significant role in our behavior and inspiration. Religion plays a sort of existential unloading of irrational behavior and best yet has stood the test of time creating tradition and a passing down of wisdom through its practice. I think the rationalists need to admit to themselves that it would be a very bleak world indeed if we were striving endlessly for logic-robotic thinking. It's not human it's not us... no matter how helpful the tool can be. We have to come to grips with the utility of spirituality.
