This is bloody hilarious. I love Freddie's character and his sense of humour.
I don't listen to Status Quo or U2 but I respect them and I don't see why everyone's complaining about Bono and the other guys, like, they're not being mean, they're having a laugh and basically saying how they liked Freddie and thought he was funny. I'm pretty sure Freddie would've laughed at this as well, were he alive to look back at it.
Emilie Deane-Freeman Freddie would have smiled, turned his butt towards Bono and said FU! Lol!
K
i
,
Bono & U2 can take themselves too seriously at times, you see😣
Midge was flattered until freddie called him Bob
Queen The best band Of The World !
si !
Indeed.
I understand Freddie was gay, but as a woman, I don’t think there has ever been a sexier man in the universe!!!!! Mr. Fahrenheit indeed!!!!!!!!
gaga123grl his appeal to women has nothing to dowith his preference women find him attractive not just because of his looks physically I mean women love George Michael too me being one of them we love his personality and his sould but yeah both he and Freddie were very attractive i mean that does not even begin to describe George physically but his appeal goes beyond the physical
Poor MIdge could have at least got his name right he would have been flattered LOL
he was BI,even Mary said that in few interviews she knew he was be not gay even she said back then he was gay later she admit he was bisexual
Well, I am a woman, but if Freddie wanted me, he could have had me. Well, he wouldn't have physically of course, but hey I would be glad to make him a cup of tea and just gaze into his beautiful deep brown eyes. So many of us women love him from afar, now in heaven somewhere I love you Freddie!
he was with women sometimes
You do know he was bisexual, right? He had both men and women. In fact, the love of his life was Mary.
Well Bono was married at the time so....
but he did prefer men later that is why he let Mary go he could have continued living as a bisexual but he knew that would be unfair to Mary and himself
Freddie was bisexual.
I think these ppl were so lucky to have met and spoken with the greatest singer of all time...😃 I'm so jealous😏🙍
Same here, each tour and studio! Freddie was a caring person.
I love this! Queen and U2- two of the greatest bands of all time.
+FarawaySoClose someone with some sense, nice to see in YT comment section.
No ....Queen is comparable con Stones, zeppelin e Beatles ....U2 whit Red Hot, Rem And Duran duran
Love 1981 aside simon le bonn yodel....and i am big fan of duran2 aside of course Queen
Queen and U2 in the same league...not even in Bono's dreams...Mercury was a genius..Bono just an ok singer. Nobody was / is in the same league as Queen...this band fucked the industry in the ass many times and did everything incredible in their way, nobody else can say that...nobody else has that many well known songs..nobody was a better lyricist, showman and singer...so...
@@Allexxx11 Indeed👍 I'm with you.
Bono is having a dig at Freddie here. Well it just shows who he is.
No body's dumb except a dumb ass himself.
Watching this, especially with the footage from "I Want To Break Free" in the background, and i'm thinking "yeah, Freddie could be as camp as may be, but he's still more manly than many wannabe boi band singers (looking at YOU, Beiber!)"
Russel Murphy exactly! Freddie was a boxer when he was younger and he could still kick some butt. Before he gets sick he was an avid athlete and would run all the time.
@@montereyharris1277 even the roadie peter hince said freddie looked small but he was strong!!!
Can people get a life
Bono and U2 are having what’s called a laugh there is no jealousy, both fantastic bands and admired each other’s talents.
Queen handed the torch over to U2 at live Aid, fantastic performances from both bands.
Havin’ the craic!
I am a queen fan since 78, have all their albums in vynil, a U2 fan since 1984, have all their albums too... and i find the situation funny.
Comparing Queen to U2 is like comparing pizza to ice cream. Both is great, but you really can't compare it.
Just enjoy what you like.
indeed.
One of the Queen members is with one of the U2 members. To this day. True Queen story coming out on Freddie’s 30th death anniversary. Because Queen story only ended with the start of this COVID-19 virus. Be ready to hear a story you will not believe. Absolutely everything about Queen is a lie along with the other bands in this story. U2, Def Leppard, Guns and Roses, Extreme, Metallica, and George Michael.
I love both
If queen is pizza and u2 is ice cream...then it is gourmet 5 star restaurant pizza compared to third world country popsicles.
These comments are making me hungry... does that mean I'm gay?
Freddie was all around wonderful. Darling.
FREDDIE MERCURY!! THE BEST VOICE!!!
Freddie ... the legend , the GOD
He was no God. He was a man of flesh and blood; which makes him that much more legendary !
Haha. This is hilarious! He was taking the Micky out of them. Always makes me laugh at Live Aid where he wiggles his tongue at and flirts with the camera guy. I hope that camera guy didn't go around saying Freddie wanted him. He was just being Freddie. Sometimes people flatter themselves waaay too much. Funny stuff.
they probably knew he was joking if he was LOL
I've read that many gays had sex with as many as 20 partners per day in the eighties, maybe it is still common today. So my take is Freddy could be prepared to have more than a few partners on any given day if they were receptive to his advances.
Exactly👍
bushwhacker...He sure was havin' a go at them...😂! According to one of these MANY documentaries on UA-cam, one of the roadies said Freddie slammed back 🍸🍸vodkas and then stage! I said...well THAT explains EVERYTHING what with the tongue 👅 gestures and giving us his ass 🐴 to kiss 🤣!
redshift...IDK where you read that shit from but that total BS! It's one thing to cupp-off with two or three at a time/night but unless one was a prostitute, nobody was fuckin' THAT many different partners/day or night. Whereever you'd got that load of crap from...just do more research. There are online gay sites where someone there would be happy to share factorial information to you if you ask nicely. Tell 'em...you're doin' research for univ and like to get quantitative information (you know like conduct a survey). That would be more beneficial to ya than reading some BS magazine or website ✌🏾!
😀aha😄ha😁ha😂haaaa! Freddie can blow them all away to bits 😊 & they found it out personaly 😄aha😄ha😄haaa! Freddie leaves them all in the dust. Queen Freddie is KING.
Amen !!!
Though your comment might look rude to someone, I can't agree more. As regards rock (and all popular music in fact), Queen were the most talented song writers in my opinion. The creativity you mentioned is the main reason I love the band so much and can't find any one that matches them. They were also true masters with their instruments. I just finished watching Glastonbury 2011 U2 performance and must say with time passing by I started getting bored. Queen song diversity can't let me get bored.
Well that's stupid. You're comparing a band in their 40s/50s to tracks of another band in their 20s/30s.
absolutely
@@Studio2770 yes
when a star dies young, he becomes a legend. Same with Freddie.
"They want you to be Jesus

Nem értek egyet. Nem minden fiatal énekesből lesz legenda és kevésért rajongunk úgy mint Freddiért🖤
QUEEN THE BEST!!!
Freddie Mercury...the man. I love this clip. RIP.
Ha ha. I think the edge would have been more his type.
I'm a big fan of both bands I think they were just having some fun. They put on an awesome show that day.
I dont like how Rossi is changing this
Theres lots of articles saying he said things he shouldn't to Freddie that's why he got him in a headlock
Not to hurt him but just put him in his place
Cant imagine the amount of crap Freddie had to put up with
Amen
I think Freddie was yanking Midge Ire’s chain. Sadly he didn’t get it. ;)
Seen them at Slane castle in Ireland in 1986 Iit was my first concert. They performed one more time in England one week later and never performed again. I almost didn't go and I am so glad I did.
They played Newcastle wembley x 2 manchester and knebworth all after Slane.
I would’ve loved to have met Freddie! Hopefully I’ll meet him in Heaven one day and he’ll serenade me...Hey, a girl can dream, can’t she?!😁
"we've all agreed that we like you" 😆
I can just imagine Freddie saying that. He would have thrown a "darling" in there somewhere as well I'm sure.
Darling, dear, how big is your ...?
@SpiirytStarrchild Yes, Brian has been very modest about his performance that day giving all kudos to Freddie, but the solo in We Will Rock You never sounded better and the improvised riffs he did on Crazy Little Thing Called Love were superb too.
Freddie to Bono
"We all agreed that we like you"
Yep, the same "Rolling Stones" magazine that voted Mick Jagger (lead singer of the group "Rolling Stones" - what a coincidence!) as the best singer while Freddie got 2nd place: this cannot be taken seriously, don't you agree?
Queen changed their sound quite often. Early Queen's sound was more complex and creative, while the late Queen's sound had a little touch of Pop in their Rock. Let's not forget they made ballads, disco songs, hard Rock songs, Pop songs and some involving vocalizations.
Brilliant. I wouldnt mind Freddie pinning me up against a wall or having me in an arm lock lol, just to be aknowledged by him would be enough, even if he didnt really know who i was like Midge Ure. And i'd never wash my hand ever.
me too lol
Same !
FUCKING HYSTERICAL & I’m most positive Freddie & Jim are laughing
As for collaborations, there wasn't as many as there are in the 2000's.
Queen did collaborated with David Bowie for "Under Pressure" and Freddie collaborated with Michael Jackson for a few songs too.
Also, Queen has many cover bands from all over the world. "Killer Queen" (one from Great Britain, the other from Italy), "The Miracle" from Holland, "CoverQueen" from France and "One night of Queen" to name a few.
Their songs are covered by other bands (Green Day, Metallica and more).
Thanks for posting this. I love it! It makes me giggle. :)
Correct title: When two the most legendary popular musicians met
Love this! Funny about what Bono said meeting Freddie. 🤣
Yeah, it's weird that I like U2 and find that they use the same formula, I just can't explain it myself. I like to listen to their songs. You prefer U2 as I prefer Queen and that's the beauty of it. Different tastes allow different groups playing a certain music genre to rise to fame and spread their music and please all kinds of fans.
@BaronM I have no doubt they sold that much in the states, or even more around the world. Queen was huge world wide, and very popular in the states they still are. Queen came out in 1970, it's 2012. I don't think it's difficult to imagine a group as loved as Queen everywhere can have that kind of sales in all that time. But, my opinion. my parents loved them, and so have I.
imedi,
Watch a Queen concert and look at the crown Freddie wears at the end of the show. Now, take a good look at it, because you will never see it on Bono's head... ;)
+Ilian Nachev who gives a **** about a crown.
+Studio2770 Everybody!
Ilian Nachev well that's false because if it was "everybody" then logic dictates I would have to be part of that group but I'm am not. Besides, I'm sure Bono could care less about the crown. Anyone can put a crown on.
Ilian Nachev I love Freddie and will defend him forever. He was not only a great talent, but had the biggest heart for everyone. Not too many as kind as he was. I loved him whether his electrical charge was AC or DC!
Ilian Nachev
Fantastic and too right
I don't blame them. If I was a singer and I was standing next to Freddie Mercury, I'd hog the mic as well. LOL
Amazed at the anger--Who's better!!! U2, Queen, Stones....Ya know? I love Springsteen (125 million albums in the US) but I would go crazy listening to only one group, one singer, one writer. ENJOY THEM ALL!!
Frie chicken baby 😀
Swirlwind Shirl... One Vision ✌🏾
Well, not that simple darling.
My addiction is Freddie Mercury. I need a doctor.
if freddy mercury wanted me he could have me in a split second.. :)~
Come on man why are the Queen fans and U2 fans fighting? I am a fan of both of them. I think Bono was joking around when he said those things. I think it took him by surprise when Freddie came up to him but he wasn’t mad.
I think he just took the chance by having a dig at Freddie. Because no body looks at them when Freddie is around.
Swirlwind Shirl...You're looking at this all wrong! Brian has it right! Freddie was havin' fun with a lot of guys backstage that day...it's well documented! Freddie enjoyed shocking the shit outta ppl and it was a mind game to him to get those up and coming fuckers off their game that day. So Bono's just fondly remembering and reenacting Freddie's words and movements. Str8 or fuckin' gay...if Freddie came up to YOU and did same fuckin' thing, trust and believe, you'd relay your story the SAME fuckin' way as Bono did! AND you'd NEVER forget it either!
So no, no, no darling...that was Freddie being Melina to fuck with them AND everybody was having a laugh watching that shit too cause Freddie was well known to hold his own in fights...wasn't anybody callin' him anything other than Freddie, Mr. Mercury, or Melina (& you'd damn well had better been a friend to call him this)...period!
@@Motown-1966 Ok I can see it now.
Gee, you're a smart cookie, aren't you? 😎🤓
@@Motown-1966 Got you. Freddie was a lethal weapon :D
I can totally see it.
As you can surmise by my screen name, I am a longtime, diehard Queen fan, who had the pleasure on various occasions of meeting Freddie, and found him charming, humble and solicitous of those around him.
While I am a U2 fan also, although to a lesser degree, I must say that both Bono and Larry come off here as homophobes, which belies the "image" they portray to the general public, as being so "progressive."
Nah.... Sheer admiration going on there.
I didn’t know that being called Jeffrey makes you a huge Queen fan. Interesting…
A star among stars
@jaquemate2002 freddie was the best musician of any century
Bono tells intimate story about Freddie Mercury backstage at Live Aid and causes internet trolls to get upset. Unbelievable.
It wasn't even being horrible.
DuffPaddy1 haha. Tell me about it. Some of the comments on here are so stupid. Agree 100% he was remembering Freddie with fondness.
Bono 1point,Freddie 1000 Points.
You -100,000,000 points
Yes. with you.👍
Bono-100 points Freddie-1000 points
Bono -1 point. Freddie - infinity
Most songs from U2 follow a simple, basic 4 chord pattern that keeps repeating itself. Then The Edge comes with a riff for on top of that , and then bono literally starts singing 'something ' on top of that. Queen on the other hand could combine different songs into 1 song, used much more interesting structures in their songs and were actually creative in their song building.Although one may like one's music more, anyone with a bit of musical knowledge can see queen are the much more talented 1s
You sound like a musical snob not a musician, dahling.
Absolutely true.
Apples and oranges. No comparison.
90’s U2 stomps queens discography. Structure my ass lol
@@brandonjohnson1849 What makes you think that?
Every fan (and even haters) have their own perception about the music of a group. Personally, I find U2's songs to be based mostly on the same formula. Their music is not as diversified as the other groups I listen to; it could explain why I find their songs rather similar. In the end, U2 is a good band and I like their music whether it's based on the same formula or not. I'm not trying to diss them, I'm simply expressing my opinion.
Listen to The Joshua tree and then POP and your will change your opinion...
what?! you don't know what are you talking about
I like the moustache look on Freddie. RIP.
This sounds like Ben Jonson making fun of Shakespeare (in his absence). U2 were a great, world class band. But Queen was just genius. It's like Bach saying Mozart was a bit crazy lol. Mozart...
Freddie put his hand against the wall to stop Bono escaping..... PMSL I so wish I could have seen that.
Which is frankly, pretty creepy.
I think Bono made it all up. Well to elevate himself and show how gay Freddie was. He was envious when the band by the name of Queen stole the show and made Bono look third class. Jealous little man.
@@sirfermainclancharlie1018 Yes, I think you're probably right.
@@SilverLine269 thanks my dear.
Bono was/ is terribly jealous of Freddie. Sort of embarrassing. He was probably hot for Freddie and that upset him 😂
@92Funny I noticed that too, Freddie had to stretch right over to try and get to the mic at the finale because one girl wouldn't let anyone else sing..
i believe he and paul were jealous cause freddie got all the attention from live aid and so after when they sang the christmas...they were trying to block him....petty jealousy...
Самая прекрасная горничная в мире!
i was there mate .....totally agree.....and im a u2 fan
@AntonioTheGrace never bono nor other artist had such a great live performace as freddy, thats why live aid @ wembley was simply recognised as the best rock gig of all times :)
Bono is good but freddy was and very hardly will cease to be the very best ^^
@abelesa84 You said most tickets in a single concert. Not all over during a tour. Big difference there. As for me singing, I didn't say I could or if I could, that I was better. But Freddie sure was WAY better. More range, more powerful. Its not even a fair contest. Compare Freddie with Laryngitis VS Bono and maybe its more even.
the title when bono met freddie is ludicrous, queen wiped the floor with u2 and everyone else for that matter, bono spent most of his time trying to jump into the crowd but not freddie he was showing the WORLD why he was the greatest
THOMAS ROONEY Yes. Freddie didn't need to try. U2 could only get 2 songs in because they wasted too much time on their first with Bono in amongst the crowd. I can't even remember how the song goes.
kasabushy that performance made U2 world famous you uncultured swine.
😂 Rez...💁🏾♀️ Yeah Well according to the Live Aid documentary, that stunt Bono pulled nearly got him booted from the group! They were PISSED he had squandered their time to do the full set AND was none too happy with him!

THANK YOU !!!!!
All the best bands in the world come from Ireland and the British isles! The beatles, Thin Lizzy, Iron maiden, U2, Queen, Coldplay... the list is literally endless
Enlighten me....what are the “British Isles”?
As an American...the usa invented rock n roll...but the brits perfected it.
FREDDIE RULEZ !!!
Yeah, U2's the best, lol. Have you any idea the craftsmanship that went into making A night at the opera? Or their following albums for that matter? U2 sounds like a marching band in comparison to Queen.
And what about the craftsmanship in making The Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby? They are truly classic albums. Queen have around 10-15 truly great songs. After that it goes downhill very fast.
@theedge2009 Queen have sold 300 million records, nearly twice what U2 have. I like U2 as well but I find a lot of their stuff sounds the same, Queen took many chances with their music and covered everything from opera to rockabilly to dance music. But both have some very good songs.
"FREDDIE MERCURY"---- bono
Bono is a great vocalist, rock star, hero, humanitarian, legend!
Freddie was his dad.
So Freddie, bless his dear departed soul, was always about hitting on somebody...and in a very confident and determined way too... no wonder he died the way he did...taking on many chances do takes it toll. Pretty sure he had his fun though...
Innocent bystander nope he was hitting them because it is AMUSED him greatly seeing them squirmished. he did know about the homophobics remarks to him and his band mates. but none would challanged him knowing he is a tough boxer. afterall he is one with that black fabolous humor. a jester indeed
Freddie has more talent in his ingrown hair than Bofuck in his whole body.
+Yoncé why diss Bono?
Sorry I'm not buyin that for a second
That's nonsense for a start.
Thank you soooo much!!:D
Apparently Freddie tried it on with photographer David Bailey at Live Aid too. "At one point I got a tap on my shoulder and spun round. Suddenly there was a big tongue down my throat! It was Freddie Mercury." guardian.co.uk/music/2004/oct/17/popandrock5 What a slapper Fred was.
he knows he was a hottie
He wishes
@annanulla Sure. "So when Freddie Mercury comes up and he goes 'Hello. Mmm, we've all agreed...that we like you.' and I went 'huhuhh' and he had me up against a wall and Freddie was being really playful with me and i walked off and i went 'He's really very camp, isn't he?' Somebody said, 'Queen...?' (Laughs) "
@enjoyingmylife
thank you very much :)
Bono, Fredd kicked your ass gravely at Live Aid concert 1985. Bono felt that Fredd surpassed him in terms of talent by far. And then there was that Jelous feeling.
Queen were already established by then so I'd think they'd be the better act. U2 was still young but Live Aid shot them up in stardom. Pull your head outta your ass.
Buzz off
Totally agree with you, @@Studio2770
They should have added these parts in the movie
Could please somebody write me what status quo said about Freddie, I can't understand🙇
Bono and Freddie Are friends guys chill the fuck down

Ure might have been from Scotland, but he and the band were most definitely based in London...England. I love the Scots, but see above, I wasn't referring to him as a person, but rather the band. Were the band based in Scotland, or if they had an overt Scottish identity, then maybe you could say differently, but they were originally formed by English kids who were at art school in London. Midge Ure, the Scot, came much later, only after they were established, and after he had moved to London.
@TroyDouglas917 Yeah, you're right! Brian was spectacular!
@92Funny Actually, Bono only sang his original bit in the song, I didn't see him pulling the mic from anyone. Sting was hogging one mic off to the side and there was a black female singer who was hogging the other one that Geldof had.
Bono is the man and its not his fault the jealous haters are fucked up .
@Thanksandy I read about it in U2 by U2 and it definitely wasn't to offend Freddie. Just like u said: Bono has huge respect for him.
So many panties in a twist over a personal opinion. This Queen/U2 argument reminds me of that scene in Amadeus where old Salieri plays a tune to the priest, who recognises it at once starts singing and then asks if he wrote it. No he said, that was Mozart.
That's how I imagine the future. RadioGaGa, WeAreTheChampions or WeWillRockYou start playing and people will probably recognise the tunes however remotely. Now play them U2's most famous hits - does anyone seriously think the same will happen?
Actually yes. Sunday Bloody Sunday, Pride, and With or Without You for starters. I've never heard RadioGaga.
Rez… You need to watch Queen at Live Aid if you’ve never heard Radio Ga Ga… esp since Queen is well known for stealing the show.
There's lovely!
could you transcript what they say? I can't understand a word
Basically they all thought Freddie wanted to sleep with them, while he was probably having a good laugh at them.
Nina..😂 Yup! That 'bout sums it up 😉
@echo680 grazie!!!
Thank you so much!
Yes Bono, but Freddie was only playing at wanting to seduce you! You weren't his type and he had a brand new boy friend, anyway. Jim Hutton.
Queen and U2 were easily the two best performances at Live Aid. Sadly it was a bit of a passing of the torch moment in the sense of the arc the two bands took in the subsequent few years following Live Aid.
In terms of diversity and experimentation, Queen is the one leaving U2 in the dust. Listen to the albums Queen, Queen II, A night at the Opera, Innuendo.
I do find Mercury to be a better frontman than Bono, but that doesn't determine who's the best band, it's not only about the frontman, but the group and their music.
I own all of U2's albums exept 2, but I've listened to all of their songs, so I know their music.
TBrocks13 i really confused why do some of my fellow Queen fans bashed bono about this. Bono clearly was bragging about it, not anyway insulting Freddie (oh how we know how it is if Bono insults someone). he is lovingly told a fond memory of his encounter with Freddie and clearly flaterred by it. love U2 songs but alas my heart is owned by the Queen musically
Hi! Can some one please explain me what does Bono said about Freddie. Somehow I did not get his point. I will appreciate if someone help me to understand. I am an ordinary but huge fan of Freddie and I love him a lot but I also I like Bono but not as much as I love Freddie but I just want to make sure if Bono said something bad about Freddie. Thanks
***** Thank you so much Hagen. I wish you ALL THE BEST and ALL THE HAPPINESS in your life. Take care.
+John Romerro No, he didn't say anything bad-he was commenting on how surreal it was meeting Freddie for the fir5st time at Live Aid because Freddie was holding court that day, playing up his public persona as the over the top flamboyant personality. As was with the case of everyone interviewed Bono was amazed, caught off guard and amused/surprised and taken aback(in the best way possible). Freddie liked to do that, the public Freddie, at least, go all out, press people's buttons. Case in point saying to Midge Ure , while shaking his hand for two minutes straight "You're that lovely boy from the Boomtown Rats, aren't you?" Midge replies "No, I'm that lovely boy from Ultravox." lol Midge to this day doesn't know if Freddie was truly ignorant about Midge Ure or putting him on. It's funny. As is Ure's , Bonos and Status quos recollections of running into Freddie that day. Those bashing Bono don't get the genuine affectio0n meant by his comments. After all, Bono was invited by Queen to play at Freddie's memorial.
John Alia no, he is only pulling Bono's leg alias he is toyed with all the musician homophobic tendencies at that time. i would think even when they were joking, they seemed quite flaterred that Freddie took a humour act to woo them. not everyone can bragged that they were once being hit on by the great Freddie Mercury. i know i would l.o.l

Nah, Queen are better. They did everything before U2 and blazed a trailf or them to follow. U2 dressed up in drag for one of the One videos in 1992, Queen dressed in drag in 1984 for I Want To Break Free. U2 became The Passengers group in 1995 and sang with opera star Pavarotti, Freddie sang Barcelona with opera star Montserrat Caballe in 1987. U2's Rattle And Hum album was a retro tribute to the early days of Rock N' Roll, Queen did that on their 1979 album The Game. And on and on and on.
you're right...but they are at least 15 years apart.
U2 followed and tried to copy Queen…… like most copies… the original always wins!!
MEMORABLE!!!!!!!
