I had a Barbie in the early 60s, like 64-65. There was a promo at our local Kings store. If you brought in a Barbie, you could trade it in for a free twist and turn Barbie. Mine was in the orange and white net bathing suit. Long straight blond hair. I still have her along with Ken, Allen, Francie, and Scooter. And loads of 50-60 clothes. Happy memories.
I love your content and your enthusiasm and your store! I love what a wonderful husband and Dad you appear to be! Thank you for all your hard work. It is appreciated! ❤️❤️💙💙
Like a million other little girls, I had that first Barbie...brunette. It was with "my own money," but my Mama sure was against it!! I recall many details of the debate.
The Barbie song from 1997 "Barbie Girl" you refer to is by the Danish group Aqua and is not related to Mattel. In fact, in 2000 Mattel sued RMC Records for the song claiming that it violated the Barbie trademark. The case was dismissed in 2002 but the debate was pretty fierce. Really enjoy your channel!
I understand it is not related to mattel was more referencing the impact barbie had on society where her likeness was turned into a popular one hit wonder. Glad you enjoy the channel! Thanks for checking us out 🙂
As a child of the 50s/60s of course I had Barbie dolls. I loved them. Back then we bought them for $1.50 to $2.50. That was an expensive item for our household. My parents paid us for our chores, and I would save my money to buy me a Barbie. I remember being 15 years old, and my best friend telling me we were too old to play with Barbies. Well, when I grew up I had a daughter and I introduced her to Barbies. She was a tom boy and did not like dolls. So, I started collecting. I have been collecting Barbies for 40+ years now. I find them soo relaxing, especially if I am crafting for my Barbie- for example, I love to create Barbie houses from cardboard boxes. Thanks for sharing this video. I truly enjoyed it.
I had Barbies from 1961 and on...I wouldn't mess their hair so they were all in excellent condition. I lost my job many years ago and lost my storage locker and all my Barbies and clothes...I use to go to Barbie conventions and shows. I have one left, Silken Flame collector from 1998. I miss them! Thx for the memories!
Great video! I have a lot of vintage dolls, clothes and accessories. The original Skipper, Scooter, Francie, Ricky, Alan, Tutti, Todd, and other friends and family to Barbie are also very collectible. Vintage clothes in the original packaging is also rare. Especially if it is a complete set with accessories too. For the vintage Barbies, I think it's important for a collector to pay attention to green ear (from the earring metal discoloring the plastic) and missing hair plugs. Ricky, Alan, Ken and Todd clothes are very hard to find, since so few items for the 'men and boys' items were made. Also, I think it's important to mention for African American Barbies that the Julia doll was made in 1968 based off of Diahann Carroll from the tv show. And Tutti's friend Carla was made in 1976. Too bad I live in Phoenix AZ, I'd love to be on your show and talk to people about Barbies!
Timely...I'm having a garage sale this weekend, and got the notion to sell my Wicked Witch Barbie, still in the box!---Thought about adding my 12ince porcelain Maleficent, but can't find her listed anywhere for pricing. Must be retired, and could be worth many hundreds (or more), but w/o an example, will hold on to her.
My Mom had the original Barbie when she was a kid & still wishes she would have held onto it! I have 2 of the $200 Bob Mackey designer Barbies never removed from the boxes from when I was a teenager. I got rid of my collection of almost all of the Happy Holidays Barbies (still in boxes) because they took up so much room to store.
I have many man boxes of barbies in my storage unit I need toto go through. I love how you really emphasize donating them! I collected all of the holiday barbies until after the millennium, a lot of them are not in great condition, some are nrfb but the boxes are beat up. I'm just not sure what the difference in the millennium barbies makes them more valuable. Thanks for all of the great info!
I have Disney Barbie type . It is Cinderella and Prince Charming. It has never been opened. I got it at Disneyland the first year they were celebrating th 50th anniversary. I have the sales receipt in the box. My question is if I open it will decrease the value. I am thinking about selling it.
Great video, have you ever heard about the pregnant barbie that came out in the early 90s ? The stomach opened up and you took the baby out, lol, They weren't out no time and they recalled them, I had bought one for my daughter and I regret not putting that one up, I think I turned it in when they recalled them, lol
I have heard of it and was one I regret not mentioning in the value section of the video. What a controversial piece that would of been interesting to mention. They sell for $140+ 😂😂
What happens when the original first ponytail Barbie head has a Midge body? I know it’s not first edition but it came out a year later. How does one value this?
I have many of the early 60s Barbie's and friends. I even have the t & t Barbie in the orange swimsuit that you showed. I am ready to part with them. What would be the best way to go about selling them? Is there a website that helps to value them? I was surprised at some of the prices they bring in per your video. I would appreciate any advice you could give. Thank you
Hi...enjoyed the video and learned a lot....when I was a tween a local store had a deal where you bring an older Barbie in and trade for a dollar off a new Barbie...my sister is 7+ yrs older then me and I took her original Barbie....one in black and white swimsuit ( naked I kept the suit lol) and I got the dark hair blue eyed mod Barbie in the same outfit you showed! I still have her and the mod Ken....fringed vest etc probably 1970-1971.... still have my original Barbie cases and the house that open up to 3 rooms + the furniture....I saw one dining chair on EBay for $50 bucks!!! My daughter played with all my Barbie stuff and now have two granddaughters....hmmm not sure if we will that far lol😲 My daughter’s great grandmother started buying holiday Barbies for my daughter the year she was born 1988 so probably includes first one....they have never been out of the boxes! So did I hear you say the holiday barbies in never out of box are only worth $25-$50.....thats a shame they cost $50 bucks new! Thank you for sharing....love your content😊kim
Hi!!😊👍❣ Good one....but broke my heart again!😳🥺😥 I let my cousin sell my 1959 Barbie...not in box, but not played with...in her travel case with tons of clothes from 59. She sold the whole thing for $75. 🥴 She should have put it in an auction....sheesh. Thanks, I think...for the info!! 👍👍❣❣❣😄😄🤪
I cannot contain myself. I take the dolls out of their boxes. I want to see them and touch them. Is ok if they lost their value. 🤷🏻♀️ I want to enjoy them.
I have a complete set of Wizard of Oz Barbies. Munchkins, Tin Man, the whole group. All the pieces are there, including the boxes although some of the boxes got squished over the years. They came out in 2000 for the 100 year anniversary of the writing of the book. I guess I will hold on to them if they are worth something.
My Barbie served her country to the very end; she was captured and taken over enemy (my older brothers) lines where she was tortured and held for ransom (my Halloween candy). Poor Barbie..she was never quite the same after her release 🤣
OMG, I had the TNT Barbie. I still have one that is at least 50 years old but I have never been able to find exactly which one it was. The arms and legs do not move and she gas short black hair. She was mine as a young girl so she was played with.
I still have the barbie DVD, for my daughter, I stopped buying by the time she was 12 which was 2012. I have found a lot of barbies, out in the wild before they got super popular. I diid collect the Gone With the Wind, dolls with our Cancel Culture I wonder how much they are I paid $79.00 each I believe there were 5 of them.
The first black Barbie doll was colored Francie in 1967, then 4:40 Christie 1968; the first black Barbie doll named Barbie was 1979/80. The same time 1980 Latina Barbie, then 40 different international Barbies,
You really only talk about value, doll collecting is so much more than just money. I bet you’re a nice guy but if you’re only out for money then you should reconsider collecting.
My daughter never opened her Barbies from 95 to 2000. They are still in the box. She now has a daughter. Perhaps in 50;years they will be worth something. Has the transgendered Barbie come out yet?

My Barbies tended to have one leg broken off; they weren't built to ride Breyer horses, which were my favorite toys.
My sister had the same issues.
Great video to get me motivated to see what I have.
Thanks for watching Carol

That is great Sharon! Nostalgia is the main reason for collecting

Sorry to hear about that 😔
The twist and turn Barbie was called twist and turn because her waist turned. Barbie head has always turned.
I love collecting vintage Barbies! Sophia Maria💜💜💜💜💜
They are a great item to collect

You definitely need room to collect these so having a smaller collection would make sense to most

The Twist & Turn Barbie twisted at the waist. Their head always turned
👍
What about the Gone with the wind and My fair lady barbie sets?
Those are good as well just couldn’t mention them all of it would of been an hour long video

Yes if it is opened the value goes down. If your looking to maintain the highest value do not open it
darn it has been opened. I just took it out of the cabinet. but never taken out of the box thank you so much for replying.
Absolutely
I'm new to Barbie collecting and there's a Barbie in your thumbnail that caught my attention. What's the name of the barbie that's bottom most right?

Try to do some internet research on them and hopefully that will net you some answers. Some of those older barbies take some work to find value
FYI. TNT Barbie is called that because her waist twist not because of her head that did as well
I Misspoke thanks for keeping me in line 🙂

Hi Sue! We all have giving up something that turned out to be valuable and regret it. That's why we always go with Memories over Money 🙂

I never see anything on the red ponytail Barbie in the red bathing suit. I was in 6th grade, early 60s. She is my only one.
Interesting!?! I'll have to do some research
Now my sister has an original Barbie. But she spent a lot of time diving off the front porch to rescue her friend. The sharks ate a couple fingers.
