Well, I don't know much about when it comes to things like treatment of workers, etc. but when it comes to the environment, clothes are really terrible, in particular modern fast fashion. The worst offense is actually swimwear, not only because it is made with fossil fuels (which you can fix by wearing swimwear derived from recycled plastics) but because it sheds microplastics in water, which chlorine actually speeds up. The environment would be better off if you/people in general didn't wear a swimsuit and just skinny dipped.
That's really interesting. I didn't know that
@@LaurenSchwartzbard To be fair, any clothing that contains some form of petroleum or other fossil fuel coating (which is most clothes these days) sheds microplastics when in contact with water; i.e., when you do your laundry. Though that can be treated with a microplastic filter you can order and put in your laundry/washing machine. Though you can't say the same for a pool or a natural body of water. Although, given American society is very conservative and prudish, I highly doubt that they would be willing to go along with getting rid of swimsuits in spite of their environmental impact, even though nude swimming was mandatory (for men at least) up until the 1960s, albeit for different reasons.
@@anonymousanonymous7250 I think part of the issue is the oversexualization if the body. I know i wouldn't be comfortable without a swim suit
@@LaurenSchwartzbard that definitely plays a part, sure, especially considering that younger generations are actually more conservative on this issue than their predecessors, due to, in large part, the fact that due to the internet, privacy doesn't really exist anymore, as we now have revenge porn and private photos being leaked by hackers.
@@LaurenSchwartzbard I wouldn't be too worked up on it, swimming with a swimsuit on accounts for such a tiny percentage of all microplastic pollution sources.
