    In the Northeast, Maine, N.H., Vermont, etc. the tradition of access to public resources ( fish and game) on private land that's not posted goes back to before the Declaration of Independance. It's called implied access. You need to post your land to charge a person with trespassing. Alternately, if you meet a person on your unposted land and tell them not to come back,that leads to a criminal charge if they do and get caught again. It really works out OK for the most part. In other parts of the country like Texas all land is considered posted whether there are signs or not, hunting is always only by permission. One reason we here in the northeast have this tradition is way back there were thousands and thousands of acres of land not claimed by any one as private, and later on the timber companies owned much of that land, again, thousands of acres. Fast forward to today and a 100 acre farm is still under that same tradition. There have been many attempts to change that and all have literally gone down in flames in the legislatures of the various states. I have my small woodlot posted every 100 feet on all four sides, no bad apples here, LOL

    Used to have problems with kids on dirtbike trespassing in my parents gravel bed. Ignored the multiple signs at the trail entrance. Eventually we had to block the trail off. Could see the lawsuit coming for a kid getting crushed by a loader that had no idea he/she was there.

      @@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors as for hunting. We had a guy wander down our driveway a few years back. Was hunting a neighbors property he didnt know well and got all crossed up. Found one of the local atv club trails and followed all the way to my parents. Ended up walking like 2 miles the wrong way. So he says at least lol

    Had a problem early on, and reported it to TPWD. One of our local game wardens came out and met me. A few weeks later a neighbor commented that they "heard" the warden had come out, so word gets around.
    Our signs, since, indicate cellular video footage is being taken.
    I think that is a YUGE deterrent.

    Hey, can you do a video on readin the whitetail institute soil sample results? I got mine in a couple months back and can't make head or tail of it.
    Edit:
    I lied I'm making more sense of it now. I'm sittin watching your vids and it's making a ton more sense.
    So knowing what I know now, and my first frost being October 15-20, I should be fertilizing about now to next week and planting on august 15-20, right?
    And my CEC being 26.4, I can lay down all my fertilizer at one go, right? I don't need to add lime, my PH is 7.5.

      @jaifethroberts4193 3 роки тому

      @@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors Yeah, the CEC's pretty amazing, and its on the top of a hill, with very high potassium and calcium, pretty nice.
      Anyways, I always got told to fertilize and then wait for two three weeks before planting, whats with that?

    • @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
      @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors  3 роки тому

      Never heard of that , it doesn’t make sense. You don’t want to fertilize weeks ahead of time and just encourage weeds to Grow. You want yo do it all at once and work the fertilizer into the soil so it’s available at root levels.

      @@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors K, good to know! I'm doing a little half-acre plot with hand tools and a rototiller. Did all the work this spring, then found out that unless it's next to water or you can water it frequently, summer plots just aren't worth it, I know guys that have summer plots and I don't know how they get them to work out. Anyways, thanks for the advice, will be planting around august 15th!

    Posting property lines also helps anyone you give permission too. to know boundaries and keep them from trespassing on a neighboring farm. Seen that happen to neighbors who get along invite guys to hunt only to have them on wrong side of property lines

    In Maine where I live if it isn't posted and posted as described by law then it is open to hunting. You still have to abide by other laws like no discharge of a weapon within 100 yards of an occupied dwelling but if it isn't posted then how are you supposed to know if it is public or private? Some people don't even own a cell phone much less have a hunting app.

    Brother Jebadiah and all his Amish clan are well known trespassers in my area of east central Ohio. Acting like "they didn't know they were on your land" seems to be the common theme with them. I like that you have had a talk with the game warden that seems to be a good idea to have him patrol the area more often.

    Funny story Dave, 2 years ago Im hunting opening weekend and find a camera I had put up in June and forgot about it. Took card that night and put in computer ,realized I had put camera on video mode. June 17th at 1200 noon a red chevy pickup drives by camera, next video with the truck facing the camera a guy is standing with rear drivers side door open with I assume his wife (I saw rings) getting into the truck. Next video he is standing outside of truck no shirt and pants looking very loose and unbuttoned while she is standing up on the door threshold of the truck adjusting her pants and only a brazier on for a top. That must mean when they say"love knows no boundaries" got a video of every ounce of that truck EXCEPT the license plate of coarse. Posted on social media, with a lot of comments and no results so the wife and I laugh it off

    In finland it goes like this: you shoot an animal, it runs a hundread yards and goes out side your property lines and dies. Now the shot animal belongs to the owner of the property it died on. Most times you get to keep the animal but if the property owner has open deer or moose permits they can keep it if they want .

    Glad you got them idiots. Property that I hunted for years, no posted signs but I had permission to hunt there, 2 years ago, I went up and there were posted signs. I thought well I had permission to hunt here but now that there are posted signs, I'll find somewhere else to hunt. So I did that year. The next year I went up, I stopped at the guys house that had the property and asked him if I had permission to hunt on his land. The land owner does not hunt so I was 1 of like 2 or 3 guys that hunted this 50 acres. He told me that he only posted it due to his brothers grandson (New hunter) wanted to hunt there so he didn't want anyone on there anymore that wasn't family. But that year, which was last year, this youngster shot a nice buck the first week and I went up the second week so there wasn't anyone hunting, so he allowed me to hunt since I was alone. Needless to say, I came home with a nice doe. The landowner is a very nice guy. I've known him for roughly 20 years(just by hunting on his property and talking with him then) and I totally understand why he wants to save the spot for family. That day last year when I was asking him if I could hunt his land, we sat at his kitchen table and talked for a good hour. Super nice guy. Have a great day!!

      I would set a trap, get some cell cameras so it goes to your phone , hang it high in the tree's, put something out that they would steal as bait and hopefully get some good pictures, u might lose something but just catching them can be the fun part , also take a crappy trail camera that doesn't work for bait, they will steal it but the other camera will catch them in the act . Put a ribbon under trail camera so it really draws their attention, if you have the time it can be enjoyable to play with the thief bastard's. It would also be funny to put a no hunting trespassing sign above camera .

    I don't think hunting unposted private land is actually stupid in those states where it's legal. And this is particularly true in the vast and forested areas of ME, NH, VT and portions of upstate NY. Up my way where it's less populated the need or desire to post property just isn't intense like it might be elsewhere. It obviously works for these states, otherwise it wouldn't remain both legal and socially permissible after decades.

    Would you let people hunt if they were nice enough too ask or perhaps help you around the place? Than don't be surprised when folks who don't ask wonder on your property. If you got them on film, put them too work on your farm or get the law involved if you must. It will scare off lazy people and help you make loyal friends that might help keep unwanted trash out. Either way word will get out. Folks will see a person who's strict and viewed as an ass or a fair person who will offer the trespasser a chance too right the wrong.

  • @fytebrand

    Unfortunately, law enforcement where my property is located are lazy; they don't do squat for trespassers. I've reported numerous trespassers, all of whom were armed, and some instances almost got out of hand. The game wardens and state troopers feel like it is a waste of their time so they don't do anything. I have learned to go after trespassers in civil court and have been very, very successful. My recommendation would be to do that; go after their money and go hard. Video proof is a must and interacting with trespassers is more dangerous than most people realize, so record everything, keep your distance, keep your cool, and use your zoom on your phone or camera. Emotional distress pays nicely, and if you have a good lawyer, you can watch the salt flow from trespasser's faces as they realize they made a HUGE and costly mistake. Also, when trying to find out who they are, I have found that along with social media, post your screenshots or photos to local newspapers and restaurants offering a few hundred dollar reward for a successful prosecution. Many people will rat out their family members for a few hundred bucks. Stay safe when dealing with trespassers.

If u would please tell me how to teach my hound how to read a sign. to shoot a guys dog that running on your property and not bothering livestock will cost u about 140,000. That’s what the last guy in Arkansas paid lol. To knowingly trespass on someone’s land without permission is so wrong but keep a hound on property u turn him loose on is impossible. It is illegal to shoot a dog on ur land unless it’s bothering live stock. Videos like this one is why people act like fools when something like a dogs get on someone property
