Why do people want to criticize Anette? Comparing her to Tarja or Floor is unfair. She is her own person. She is not Tarja or Floor. She helped Nightwish give us great songs like this one! This is one of my favourite songs by the band.
Blackveilhotel I think Anette would have sounded great on the new record. There is only one song that might have given her trouble. I think 'Our Decades in the Sun' would have been hard for her to sing (as well as Floor did), but I can't hear Floor or Tarja singing 'Slow Love Slow' as well as Anette.
I agree with you once more, but I do think Anette could sing the song 'Our Decades in the Sun' if there were some changes and if she would sing it slightly lower. But Floor did an amazing job on that song, she did an amazing job on the entire record. And Anette was great on Dark Passion Play and an AMAZING job on Imaginaerum. They are all great singers in their own way. I do miss Anette , but I think Floor will grow on me, just as Anette did back then.
Blackveilhotel That's cool! We both hate to see the singers of Nightwish compared to each other. It makes no sense to do that. They are different people with different voices. We're all different! None of us are exactly the same.
Indeed! We should all just appreciate all the band members and ex-members as well. They all do and did great jobs. I mean that's what we are here for right? To listen to the beautiful music they have created together!
I think Marco's softer stuff is way underrated. Songs like this one, or The Islander, are masterfully crafted. I love the folky influences in these songs

This Marvellous song is one of the brightest gems signed Nightwish. I Adore Tarja and Floor (two Goddesses!) but I have to admit that Anette's Voice is something Angelic, almost Heavenly in this wonderful touching sonic Poem, a timeless jewel with two Great Voices meeting perfectly... Something everybody should know to appreciate Great Music. 💕❤💕❤💕❤💕❤❤💕❤💕❤💕
One of the things I love about Anette is that she knows sometimes less is more, and knows when to hold back. She ends this song SO quietly, to beautiful effect. One of my favorite Anette vocals.
As much as I love Tarja and recognize Floor's ability, none of them could've pulled this off. This song is Anette's, she has the sweetness, the heart and the storytelling voice.
From a technical point, Anette may be the weakest singer, but from an artistic point, she's the one who inspired Tuomas his most beautiful tunes. She might not blow you away with power like Tarja and Anette can do, but she'll gently ravish you with softness. And really, Nightwish needs these two aspects.
They think that the louder , better. End of the game. People can't really see things out of the obssessively blind point of view. Like pop fandoms and shit. Kids today can't judge anything unless making comparisons
Anette was picked for her voice that matches mine the most, and the ClA made sure that DPP and Imaginaerum would be their best albums, because they included many references to me in many songs on those 2 albums, while the songs Eva and Cadence Of Her Last Breath are about me -- for those that don't know, Anette is a type of agent, and the ClA got her to join NW in order to sing those important songs that are about me, her voice matching my own voice more than any other singer's, as they also wanted me to train my own voice by singing along with the songs sung by Anette in the background, which is how one develops the right belting technique that Anette was taught by the ClA via hypnosis...
I still say Anette is the most versatile of the three Nightwish vocalists. She could do high and delicate on the ballads like this one and Turn Loose the Mermaids (with its folksy lilt,) jazzy like in Slow Love Slow, musical theater like in Scaretale, belty and gritty like in Amaranth. And she could vary the tone and timbre of her voice to suit the song, like she does in I Want My Tears Back - I swear it could be two different singers in that song between the verses to the chorus. And no, I'm not talking about Marco's part! The one thing Anette couldn't do (and which Tuomas said he didn't want after Tarja left) was operatic. Her voice also didn't have the power or the longevity of Tarja's or Floor's which became a problem on the long grueling tours they put her through. (The DPP tour was almost two years!) Still, Anette is my favorite of the three vocalists, great as Tarja and Floor both are.
Soft rock exactly. NW main genre is symphonic metal yes but this song isn't. Slow love slow too isn't metal but it doesn't mean it's bad. It's awesome.
It occurred to me, that all the nightwish ladies (floor, tarja & Annette) come together in a concert and sing this song, tarja sings about the hauntingly beautiful crow, floor sings about the elegant owl & Annette sings about the gentle dove.
It is my favourite album of all time. It's such a pleasure to listen to it everytime, the order of the tracks is perfect and does justice to the diversity of the album.
I love this song. This band definitely knows how to mix soft and sad with hardcore and awesome. Modest Mouse is good at that too. I call these kinds of bands genre "beautiful melancholy".

Can't help but laugh at everybody saying it's not Gar tuht River, ger te rheged. Take a look at the lyrics in the cd booklet. It's quite clearly that. It's sung in the song by Troy Donockley. It's a celtic phrase it translates as get to the river you will arrive in fairyland. Anyway it's a beautiful tune.

Anette is her own person, and will, and always will be Special in Nightwish, just like Tarja(my favorite) and Floor. they are all good in their own way, just remember that!
I'm a new(ish) Nightwish listener, but I love this song and this album as a whole. We know the album is about an aging composer in the twilight of his life, counting his regrets as his health betrays him. I think this song is about two desires that are opposed to one another: The desire for truth,, and the desire for innocence. This piece is a duet to give form to these mutually-exclusive, opposing wishes, and the whole piece illustrates a man trying to navigate his own legacy.
This album was definitely a different taste of Nightwish but the taste is still delightful. It is definitely one of those albums where it feels better listening on a nice, peaceful night than during the daytime. It's like a savory wine you keep saved just for those nights while alone.
The whole album accompanied me through my long term relationship. I made her cry while listening to this song and the Song of Myself-poem. We emptied a bottle of Imaginaerum wine while watching the movie in cinema. And when she told me, she didn't love me anymore, I returned to this song, realising that I in fact needed nothing she could give to me...still, from the bottom of my heart, I deeply miss my swan of white
Can't help but think of Nightwish's vocalists hearing this: the proud crow as Tarja, the wise owl as Marco, the gentle dove as Anette, and the graceful swan as Floor. Even the timeline when they joined Nightwish fit with the order the birds are introduced, even though this was written before Floor's arrival!
Most Nightwish songs are reasonably lengthed, unless they're used to shitty 2-3 minute pop songs. Ooor uless you're trying to get them to listen to The Poet and The Pendulum, then I could understand that xD
+Hybrid Dimension me too I said I like Nightwish. They answer literally: Night-what?! what's that? Me: a band from Finland ¬¬ They: is that a country? me: *facepalm*
You know what? I will definitely give the Annette albums some serious credit here. Her voice goes SO much better with Marco's. They sound amazing together! With Tarja and Floor, there's just to much of a gap between them, with the best example being the Phantom of the Opera cover. Marco has a great voice, but it's to gruff and heavy and doesn't go well with the pure opera of Floorja. He works as a good counterpoint to those two, but you can only do that so much. Here though? They harmonize almost perfectly.
After trying to listen to some spice girls songs (because i wanted to see why my friend was so obsessed with them) I gave up and went back to Nightwish. Way more meaningful lyrics and beautifully composed music. I think I would feel lost without Nightwish. Even as a child I never seemed to enjoy the songs that everyone else listened to and I constantly felt alone. I remember feeling peaceful and happy when I listened to one of their songs for the first time (Sleeping Sun) and it was just so beautiful and different
+patrycja bober That comparison is entirely unfair to the Spice Girls. It's like taking a football team of blind 5 year olds and comparing them with the teams that compete for the World Cup. The sheer musicianship and amount of effort that goes into composing and recording a single Nightwish song dwarfs the Spice Girls' entire career.
I feel absolutely the same- the first time I listened to each sung it felt like it was written just for me, and now each time I hear one it feels like I'm melting into a hug.
That makes NW so unique and great. They have their own world and deeply meaningful intelligent songs and themes with poetical lyrics and beautiful melodies like in here plus wonderful female voices. Tuomas is a genius of art.
Oh my, what am I doing right now? After a rather sleepless night I'm sitting upright in bed, thinking about my life and the 'birds'. The swan always makes be tear up, perhaps the person I miss the most in my life. Ironically, she's just in plain sight, it's so bizarre. Whenever I play this one on guitar, it's moving even her to tears. I should try to finally get some sleep
Can we just take some time to appreciate what we enjoy most about songs like this that have so many upsides you can write a book about it...... Instead of making pointless talk about who is singing it.
When i listen this song I've feel so lonely, but not sad,I don't know what's happen,in same time I want to cry and go to the someplace and stay to the rest of my life.
I just finally understood that the crow, the owl, the dove and the swan, at least for me, are the persons whom with the singers spent their lives. Their past partners, friends or maybe even family. But none of them could give the singes what they needed
Even in 2018 Imaginaerum is still one of my best albums of time. My opinion is that this album was perfectly written for Anette, just like subsequent work was perfectly written for Tarja and Floor. :D
The part where troy sings....Is it ,Got to grieve her, got to wreck it ? or what is listed above? Anyone doubting Annete.......Two words Dark Element! Imaginaerum is one of the best of all time.
Don't give me love, don't give me faith Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead Don't give me love, I've had my share Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead A crow flew to me, kept it's distance Such a proud creation I saw it's soul, envied it's pride But needed nothing it had An owl came to me, old and wise Pierced right through my youth I learned it's ways, envied it's sense But needed nothing it had Don't give me love, don't give me faith Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead Don't give me love, I've had my share Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead A dove came to me, had no fear It rested on my arm I touched it's calm, envied it's love But needed nothing it had A swan of white, she came to me The lake mirrored her beauty sweet I kissed her neck, adored her grace But needed nothing she could give Gar tuht river, Ger te rheged Gar tuht river, Ger te rheged Gar tuht river, Ger te rheged Gar tuht river, Ger te rheged Gar tuht river, Ger te rheged Gar tuht river, Ger te rheged Don't give me love, don't give me faith Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead Don't give me love, I've had my share Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead Don't give me love, don't give me faith Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead Don't give me love, I've had my share Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead Don't give me love, don't give me faith Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead Don't give me love, I've had my share Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead
This came up on my UA-cam feed and I suddenly remembered that the first time I had heard it was actually on Thanksgiving Day of 2011...November 24. So I guess for me, the song is six years old today.
"A parrot came to me, chattering, And bit me till I bled. I threw a rock and cussed like a sailor But needed nothing it had. A chicken waddled to me, warbling, Expecting to be fed, She ate my corn and left an egg, But...actually, I _do_ need eggs. Thanks, Chicky! An ostrich gray, he came to me, He kicked me hard, right in the meat! I came to rest a few yards back, And I sure as Hell did not need that!" ...something like that. >_

I did some research about it. And what I wrote is Tuomas' statement about that line. He said that he won't say the meaning of it, and all he can say is that it's an incantation. Do your homework before arguing!
I love every era of Nightwish. I love Floor, she is amazing and perfect fit. I love the two albums with this singer the most , don't care for the two after imaginarium. This singer is the best studio/album singer.
My absolute favorite album and always will be!! ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
I am more of a melodic-death metal (In Flames type) metalhead...but fuck all the haters..NIGHTWISH IS EPIC!
So are you into Amorphis?
How come I haven't heard this song before now? THIS IS AMAZING!
Favorite album, no doubt.
this song deserves more attention!
Omg where have I been?! How i miss this beautiful song so long.
Como uma banda consegue ser tão perfeita?
No me des amor, no me des fe
Sabiduría ni orgullo, da en cambio inocencia
No me des amor, he tenido mi parte
No me des amor, no me des fe
Sabiduría ni orgullo, da en cambio inocencia
No me des amor, he tenido mi parte

I'm in love with these lyrics and sounds.
i wish they had more songs like this
+Cody b maybe 'The Islander'
turn loose mermaids?
nobody at my school has heard of Nightwish... forever alone...
+Hybrid Dimension i feel you *sympathy hugs*
+Hybrid Dimension introduce them!
+Joshua Brunton tried that. a lot of people complain about the music being too long -_-
whaaaaat. Most Nightwish songs are reasonably lengthed, unless they're used to shitty 2-3 minute pop songs. Ooor uless you're trying to get them to listen to The Poet and The Pendulum, then I could understand that xD
+Hybrid Dimension me too
I said I like Nightwish.
They answer literally: Night-what?! what's that?
Me: a band from Finland ¬¬
They: is that a country?
me: *facepalm*
This is proof that even soft metal kicks ass
this is the album that made me fall in love with annete
Anette shines so bright here
You know what? I will definitely give the Annette albums some serious credit here. Her voice goes SO much better with Marco's. They sound amazing together! With Tarja and Floor, there's just to much of a gap between them, with the best example being the Phantom of the Opera cover. Marco has a great voice, but it's to gruff and heavy and doesn't go well with the pure opera of Floorja. He works as a good counterpoint to those two, but you can only do that so much. Here though? They harmonize almost perfectly.
such a beautiful voice and song.
I found this song about 4 years ago, forgot about it, then now I've found it again. It's so beautiful I'm surprised I could actually forget it
Me now
Durchbrach meine Jugend
as someone that listened to this album over and over ... go watch the movie... the album and all its lyrics change for you with a story behind it
After trying to listen to some spice girls songs (because i wanted to see why my friend was so obsessed with them) I gave up and went back to Nightwish.
My first song was also Sleeping Sun
That's true. Every elitist who says "NW sucks!!!1" should listen to some pop to understand what good music is😊
That makes NW so unique and great. They have their own world and deeply meaningful intelligent songs and themes with poetical lyrics and beautiful melodies like in here plus wonderful female voices. Tuomas is a genius of art.
My whole body has goosebumps during the whole song
Oh my, what am I doing right now? After a rather sleepless night I'm sitting upright in bed, thinking about my life and the 'birds'. The swan always makes be tear up, perhaps the person I miss the most in my life. Ironically, she's just in plain sight, it's so bizarre. Whenever I play this one on guitar, it's moving even her to tears.
I should try to finally get some sleep
Can we just take some time to appreciate what we enjoy most about songs like this that have so many upsides you can write a book about it......
Instead of making pointless talk about who is singing it.
When i listen this song I've feel so lonely, but not sad,I don't know what's happen,in same time I want to cry and go to the someplace and stay to the rest of my life.
yet another masterpiece by annette. Tarja and floor fans on life support
Once again, this song brought a tear to my eye
People need to get over themselves.
Tarja was a legend.
Annette was awesome as hell.
Floor has a great voice.
THEY'RE ALL AWESOME. END OF STORY.
Tarja legend? Where?
Thank you
This song tells a story that are deep ...very deep,Its my favorite for personal reasons with hard knock life shit.
What a beautiful song...😍
Thank you for the subtitles. Now I finally know that "Ger te rheged" isn't being sung and not "Got to lick it". ^^..
Rare utilization of the higher notes on accoustic guitar.
So powerful song..love it
Honestly the best song on the album in my opinion.
I just finally understood that the crow, the owl, the dove and the swan, at least for me, are the persons whom with the singers spent their lives. Their past partners, friends or maybe even family. But none of them could give the singes what they needed
Wonderful... how fantastic to showcase all three vocalists.
Beautiful song, beautifully performed. I came to nightwish with Floor singing but this sounds like a different band. Love them all.
it's unreal, I can't stop repeating this masterpiece!
Anette has beautiful voice. I love songs in which she sings with Marco. But maybe I'm a nut...
This song is just amazing.
Im not a big fan of nightwish but this slbum is simply beautiful
Even in 2018 Imaginaerum is still one of my best albums of time. My opinion is that this album was perfectly written for Anette, just like subsequent work was perfectly written for Tarja and Floor. :D
Tuomas is a master and knows his singers ; )
The part where troy sings....Is it ,Got to grieve her, got to wreck it ? or what is listed above? Anyone doubting Annete.......Two words Dark Element! Imaginaerum is one of the best of all time.
It is in Celtic and I think It means Go to river you will see a Fairy.
@@Omega-fb9ji Really dude? You just read that a few comments below and say "I think" :) Lol
This is just a beautiful song. Five stars.
My god, this song is beautiful. Thank you so much for uploading it.
I adore her voice... These songs can be only hers...
Best lyrics for a song I've ever heard.
favorite nightwish song
Simply a beautiful song.
Don't give me love, don't give me faith
Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead
Don't give me love, I've had my share
Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead
A crow flew to me, kept it's distance
Such a proud creation
I saw it's soul, envied it's pride
But needed nothing it had
An owl came to me, old and wise
Pierced right through my youth
I learned it's ways, envied it's sense
But needed nothing it had
Don't give me love, don't give me faith
Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead
Don't give me love, I've had my share
Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead
A dove came to me, had no fear
It rested on my arm
I touched it's calm, envied it's love
But needed nothing it had
A swan of white, she came to me
The lake mirrored her beauty sweet
I kissed her neck, adored her grace
But needed nothing she could give

Gar tuht river, Ger te rheged

Don't give me love, don't give me faith
Wisdom nor pride, give innocence instead
Don't give me love, I've had my share
Beauty nor rest, give me truth instead
Don't give me love, don't give me faith

Don't give me love, I've had my share

I love this song very beautiful
Amazing song, so beautiful xx
This came up on my UA-cam feed and I suddenly remembered that the first time I had heard it was actually on Thanksgiving Day of 2011...November 24. So I guess for me, the song is six years old today.
I love how the " wi " sounds when she says "wisdom"
such beuty the best song i've ever heard in my life
If we ever got all them (you know who) to discuss on over a song... They all are good - different - but very good.... I would just love the unison....
this is perfect for the image i was drawing
+Monochrome Batrex same
Anybody else here ever wondered if a parrot, a chicken, and an ostrich would come to them next?
Don't forget the Kookaburra, the Cassowary and the penguin! :-P
But I'd need nothing they could give :D
"A parrot came to me, chattering,
And bit me till I bled.
I threw a rock and cussed like a sailor
But needed nothing it had.
A chicken waddled to me, warbling,
Expecting to be fed,
She ate my corn and left an egg,
But...actually, I _do_ need eggs. Thanks, Chicky!
An ostrich gray, he came to me,
He kicked me hard, right in the meat!
I came to rest a few yards back,
And I sure as Hell did not need that!"
...something like that. >_

@@cloudymoon2494 Quick! Where's the "HaHa" emoji? :-D
Oh, wait...this is UA-cam, not Facebook. Daggit! :-D
I did some research about it. And what I wrote is Tuomas' statement about that line. He said that he won't say the meaning of it, and all he can say is that it's an incantation.
Do your homework before arguing!
I love every era of Nightwish. I love Floor, she is amazing and perfect fit. But also I loved Anette very much, they had very unique style on DPP and Imaginaerum, and sincerely I felt sorry for her when she left... and I would love to hear one more new song with her, it would be so cool. Same for Tarja too, it would be cool if they could write one new song for each of them! :D :D Love every one of them
