It's been 2+ yrs since China Galwan clashes, and DRDO doesn't have a single successful drone project. It's a shame & it's a normalised since decades. I appreciate the positivity maintained by Alfa Defence & other YTubers about defence projects, but the reality very very stark.

Yaar subodh, what you said is correct. Delhi abhi door hai. Its far. People in the comments are highly pessimistic in my opinion. One cannot undo close to 68 years of neglect to develop indigenous power. If not for Manohar Parrikar ji, even Tejas would have been dead. The import lobby in defence ministry, armed forces would have killed it. But it got revived and how!!!.
Secondly, countries like Turkey are masters in just drones. They are yet to make aircraft. We are getting there. Lot of propaganda about Baytaktar is making people go mad. Otherwise, only other successful drone is either Predator or IAI drones.
If I have to quote Dr S Jaishankar, "We need to be optimistic. Otherwise, we won't work towards it".
Pls go and read audits done in the past, very few are dedicated rest are like parasites. There is reason , you pick any project , everythin is in the development stage or testing phase. easy escape put the blame on import lobby or forces

Its actually true. Under the new leadership of Dr S. Venugopal all drones projects are running at full pace along with new ambitious projects.
Dr Venugopal was very close to Dr Kalam and he was the one who made Bhramos project super successful. Also he is the one who resurrected the dying Astra and nirbhay missile program. Now he is given the job to resurrect our dying drone projects. And man he didn't disappoint after showing us SWiFT.
Actually IIT K was obvious choice also because National Wind Tunnel Facility (NWTF) is located at IIT K campus
I wish all the best to IIT Kanpur and DRDO team who are involved in development of this drone.
India should acquire 10 MQ-9 Reaper UCAV only for Navy as they are only interested. And Air Force and Army should induct Indigenous HALE UCAV in good numbers.

DRDO is just like me I guess. Starts of a new project full of enthusiasm and vigor to complete it ahead of schedule. I
In the middle phases some of the enthusiasm starts of evaporate and i could see the reality but the last traces of optimism keeps me going.
After the middle phases reality hits with it's full force and I leave the project in the middle citing budget issues or worse rename the project and pretend it a completely new one and the cycle continues.
We are 10 to 15 years late in developing such technologies.

At times I feel our drone program is all over the place and no where the finish line. While other countried backed their programs decades ago, We gave them a fighting chance only 5-10 years ago. So better late than never.
The rate at which projects are initiated is very high and optimistic but the problem is its completion and getting implemented in production.its very low .When ever a project is initialized u guys do video about it ,and then I never see it getting implemented. Astra mk2 is another example it was scheduled on 2022 ,now dragging to 23,24.
India has capability but it always take decesion very late and projwct delay, especially for critical equipment like drone, submarine, aircraft

They are exporting their systems
But Indian forces haven't ordered yet for simple reasons (doesn't show faith on indegeneous systems,their ideal requirements for a system)
The one they currently have is MALE Or borderline HALE
DRDO has not managed to even roll out a single drone , we have been hearing about TAPAS, ORCA , Falana Dhimka for ages now . Meanwhile even bhikaristan has armed drones that it has acquired from china and turkey

The only measure of success is induction in service. Paper projects, prototypes and tests are ok upto a point but the final proof of the weapons effectiveness is it entering service.
MQ9 Reapers are astronomically high on price. The money can be spent on developing the new HALE armed UAV's with Albit Systems of Israel.

Great but this project should be start with as jv with strong indian industry partner, or just handover to them, and Hal should more focused on advanced versions of rustam-2 or tapas-2.

US deliberately priced it drone prices very high either to deny potency to Indian armed forces or agree profiteering. Good we can now focus on indigenous development. As such even if we get US arms at reasonable prices, it comes with lot of conditions and restrictions. This sevearly compromises out options.

DRDO is a monolithic organization. Some part of it are healthy like those who are looking after missiles but some parts are having gangrene like those who are looking after Drones. The head of DRDO should transfer these scientists to Central Universities as teachers ( research is not their cup of tea ) and fill up those vacancies by employing some young but patriotic engineers from IITs.
Mind that just one MIT pass out made Turkey's TB2 Drone which is doing havoc in wars. So it's quality that matters not quantity.

@@martinfire3406 The 220 Hp engine will take time and idk how much but the plan is to induct the Tapas bh201 with 180Hp engine and gradually upgrade it with the new 220Hp engine. But armed forces will take atleast 2-3 years for conducting user trials which is annoying though
@@AyushYadav-bs9is I guess a 1000Hp single engine pusher configuration UAV would have better flight configuration and serviceability. After inducting the twin engine Tapas, DRDO should really focus on the single engine MALE UAV
