I'm a Morissette die-hard fan but in terms of whistles, Mariah hands down wins. However, these clips of Morissette singing in whistle notes are not the best whistle of hers. There are some songs that Morissette sings in whistle better than these sets of clips. Like when she sings in whistle for 14 seconds with riff and runs in "I wanna know what love is", also "Di mapaliwanag" live and in her performance of akin kana lang in wish 107.5. And her cover of "vision of love".

Mariah can play with her whistle all day. Shes more agile and her whistle sounds like it's sure and didn't hesitate, no fear. But that's just the whistle part. Also, the one that made the video clearly didn't know that there were Mariah's songs that Morissette sang. If we are comparing, at least get the videos where they were singing the same songs. E.g.: "Emotions", "Oh Holy Night", "Vision of Love".

Mariah's poor vocal folds closure make her whistle more easily accessible that's why it's most of the time airy. Mori has more proficient vocal fold closure.

@@JesseAtata That is not possible first of all, the pitch difference is far too great. Secondly not, there is a very audible flip in the Vanishing clip. For a connected whistle listen to Minnie Riperton or Linda Hopkins.

Morissette's tone and range are unreached, even by Mariah. I like Mariah (well, when she could still sing well), but I would always prefer Morissette, because when Morissette sing I feel it. For me nobody conveys a song's emotions as Morissette can. I don't see the point in comparing only the whistles. Of course both are excellent whistlers with amazing control. But that's just like the cherry on the cake and doesn't say anything about the cakes size or taste.
I completely agree with you regarding on almost everything you said. particularly a niche technique not being a statement on someone's entire artist. This is an education channel. I expected Mariah to be the runaway winner here since, back in the days, they can control what comes out and what stays within public access, unlike today where any live performance, good or bad can be uploaded by random people within a couple of minutes, and the fact that Mariah has been caught lip synching gives doubt which performance was actually live or pre recorded. I saw a live performance of MC where the pre recorded whistle was only inserted while she was singing another phrase while Mori always do that live.
Firstly Morissette and Mariah are not the same age.Secondary Mariah never lipped on tours or performances from 1990-1996(1997). Even in 1998 she was still showing some devotion to trying to sing live , sometimes she would whistle with the playback, because she was not even used to not singing live, but due to her nodules becoming bigger she couldn't continue.She still had very good live moments like: vision of love (2003 Zurich),we belong together 2005 bet and so on mostly in charm bracelet tour.I love Morissette but there is no need to bring Mariah Carey down to raise Mori.

the better vocalist? its depends entirely on what you prefer. There's a LOT to be good at in singing. If you like distortion or screaming (which can be done healthily), then mariah and Amon are not for you. This idea that technique is what makes or breaks a singer or puts them on some sort of mount olympus is nonsense. Technique is wonderful and I've spent the majority of my life studying singing technique, but you can't use that as a basis to say, "this person is a better artist because notes."
Even between the two of them. Mariah's aesthetic decisions are influenced so heavily by RnB because when RnB WAS pop, she was on top. Meanwhile Amon prioritizes belting and power. So much so, she tries to achieve power in her whistle register.
If you have a particular thirst for power in your favorite singer, you'd probably prefer Amon. I don't and I prefer RnB. That's preference.

Well if we only compare LIVE whistles (and disregard any that are lip synced), Mariah would still have the edge because from what I’ve seen, Morissette can be pretty pitchy with her runs in that register - not always, but enough for it to a somewhat recurring issue.
Now that Mariah’s voice has had a noticeable decline in ease and range, obviously Morissette has better control in whistle notes now as compared to Mariah’s current vocal condition, but in both their primes, it would definitely be Mariah.
Now if we compare whistles from their records, Mariah would EASILY come out on top, no question. Her artistry and the way she plays with different textures and tones is unparalleled.
