Afterwards she told me she was so shocked that the nice people she was talking to were shoving her around in the mosh and that Death Grips fans are the rudest people she's ever met 😅

it's great to have bands like death grips that can manage to capture such dark and terrifying aspects of the human psyche, delving into the real depths of the mind and the existential terror that modern-day society and drug binges can bring. but despite the anger, fear, depression and insanity, death grips also has a strange hopefulness to it? like it represents some ungodly amount of pure determination and primal inner strength that man can have, even when faced with their worst nightmares. i really like 'On GP', because i feel it represents that well. black rope, tied in your chamber, your swan song a phone ring. but you just can't die, the power of the human spirit has risen above the rope. i dunno, i just like that song and it really hits me in the gut to listen to (but in a good way).

Back when I was a 0.5% listener and 10th row iceberg fan of their's I was really confused of how they made their songs and that's what made it interesting. Like are they playing a part? Is this conceptual art or is this stuff they live? Then recently I just thought of somethign that makes sense, All of their albums are concept albums of a certain mindsets of people who don't belong in society. Exmil is about an Veteran who is super unadjusted to reality and super in his head and goes crazy. The money store is an external reflection of internal disturbed thoughts of a homeless junkie on the streets of skid row or the tenderloin. Went to this concert, saw this guy in the crowed while everyone was still coming in, and while me and my boys were waiting for the show to start I was standing adjacent to him and he was talking to these other guys whom I presumed he just met about how he was super into orthodox Christianity for like a good hour.
Most of these people are ‘normal’ tbh, just broken in some kinda way. The internet’s facilitated a lot of us fucking our brains up and the alienation/frustration/submersion into wall of sound paired with the glitchy internet-y nature of dg holds resonance with a lot of broken/edgy/artsy(autsy)/genuinely deranged gen z-ers who need an outlet and find it in a 40 smth yo performance artist’s music Tbh this video made me think about the kind of person that I used to be when I listened to death grips a lot. Being 16/17 on the public bus home by myself, surrounded by people living their lives, feeling kinda paranoid, angsty, disconnected, and like I’m missing out on being happier, obviously not seeing that I was perpetuating my own misery but whatever. I still listen to them sometimes, but not with the same thought process of being all ‘do you believe in the lies of societyyy’, and ‘tear down your persona and live authentically 🤓🤓’, more just with the ever present floaty depression that always accompanied (and loomed over, really) the previous angst. Listening to them now just feels like the after party of being a broken teenager who didn’t fix anything and kept spiralling. Still broken, just able to see things more clearly now that the cups are empty and everyone’s left ANYWAYS THO, what I meant is that the simple act of interviewing people at a death grips show hurts to watch bcos it’s cringe but cringe in a way that I relate to.
