So very sad to learn of the tragic accident at the weekend And the loss of squadron leader Mark Long No time is a good time to hear news such as this My most sincere condolences to Marks family and to all concerned at the BBMF Rip squadron leader may you always fly high in blue skies
I was standing at a bus stop in Herne Bay a couple of hours ago (29/05/24) when I heard a familiar sound. Looking up I saw two Spitfires flying westwards along the Kent coast. Wonderful to see but such a sad reminder of the recent tragedy.
Very high quality footage ,thankyou. Clicks of a still camera make me want to eat my own hands in frustration, but that's just my own personal hobby horse, a comment not a criticism. Above all my condolences to relatives and friends of sqdn ldr long.
There's always that one 'Norman' with his 50 frames a second motor drive camera standing next to the video camera, "click click click click, clickety click cliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick". Sad loss of plane and pilot.
Going by the single image published so far.. maybe an engine failure, no signs of fire.. but it looked like the Spit was inverted on the ground.. never a good thing in any aircraft, especially a Spitfire. Let’s wait for the official report into the accident RIP
@@woooster17 I was only a few miles away when it happened (it was supposed to come to the airshow we were at) and it was a weird experience everyone was talking about an accident involving a spitfire but the organisers would not tell Us what had happened though one could not see smoke so it was rumoured to be a collision on the ground we now know that’s not true but I do not believe there was any fire or even explosions as from the distance he was from us we would have seen or heard them
So very sad such a lively sight and sound and smooth flying RIP Mark Long
Think this footage would be a fitting tribute to him. Blue skies Sir. 😢
So,so,so sad R.I.P FLY HIGH Mark long 😢 😢😢😢😢😢

No need for it. Photographer should have found somewhere away from the person videoing. Just bad manners.
The beautiful sound of Merlins

Echo everyone’s comment.. As a life long Spitfire nut, it truly was a shocking thing to hear.. RIP Sqd Ldr Mark Long

Not yet, they have begun an investigation though, raf.mod.uk/news/articles/statement-by-group-captain-robbie-lees/
Not pilot error, trust me.
