  • Streaming with low viewers or a slower chat can be INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT for new Streamers, it can lead to being easily demotivated and not wanting to continue creating content!
The inherent difficulty of Content Creation, Streaming, and really any freelancing is you work for yourself, you are your own boss, which sounds fantastic when I think back to all of my old bosses, especially that one boss who honestly believed women could smell his testosterone.
But when you are responsible only to yourself it means you can be a bit more lenient on deadlines, if you miss them, nobody is going to pull you up.

How To Break Motivation And Start Creating Content!
One of the most powerful ways to get work done is to build your work into a routine and stick to it. I think one of my favorite methods of this is the Seinfield Strategy, this is the concept of creating a daily task or routine that you never stray from. In his example, he got a large wall calendar that had 365 squares, one for every day of the year, and every single day he would sit down and spend time writing out jokes.
When he had written a joke, he would put a big red X through that day on the calendar. If he kept at it, eventually he would start seeing a streak of X’s form, and the longer he kept the streak the more he felt disciplined and “motivated” not to break the streak. The chain of X’s became a REASON for him to sit down and write because if he didn’t… he would lose his chain.
The jokes didn’t have to be good, they didn’t even have to be half-decent, he just said he had to work on writing jokes, and so he sat down every day in his routine to write a joke, and he improved... he also became faster at coming up with them, and he learned what made them work.
You need to find your streak, and never break it, are you going to script a video for 30 minutes every day? Make a TikTok every day? Learn a new skill every day? By finding your streak…. You’ll find the motivation to get up and work so you can cross that X off.

Why You Need To Set A Deadline For Your Work To Be Motivated
A fact you need to understand when it comes to working for yourself is that all jobs or projects will expand to fit the time they’re given, this is why setting a deadline for yourself is so important.
If you don’t have a deadline, or you set a deadline that is so far out in the future then you’ll always be able to put off working on a project. If you only make a video once a month, well videos will take a month to make, it expands to meet the time given.
When you’re trying to grow as a Content Creator, these deadlines are crucial to keeping you progressing and keeping you growing.
Set your deadlines carefully, they are a finish line for you to try to meet, and are very important to a new creator trying to grow and learn.
Is Passion Enough To Motivate Yourself To Stream?
The only part of this I know for sure is that discipline, routine, and hard work are so important because while passion goes a long way, it isn’t enough to help you through the burnout, hard days, and times when your work goes unappreciated or underperforms... Which let's be real every small creator out there right now feels underappreciated and like their content is underperforming.
On those days when everything feels hopeless, you aren’t passionate anymore, and you need to be disciplined in order to get up and keep working.
The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

This truly resonates with me. As a content creator, maintaining motivation is often challenging. Breaking down tasks into manageable sections and setting deadlines have been my go-to strategies. ADHD solidarity. I'm a disabled music streamer (ADHD/Fibromyalgia.) Motivation is a challenge on both counts.
It's difficult pushing through physical pain and struggling to not get distracted by a million things instead of hitting go live.
Medication has helped a lot. Having a "starting soon" screen has really helped too. I can go live without being on camera right away, which motivates me to tune my guitar, set question of the day, do social media etc etc. People usually pop up in the chat and say hi, so I've immediately got a reason to go to my main screen and start chatting and playing.
I find knowing I'll have interactions with my regular audience on Twitch helps motivate me to stream regularly, especially knowing that people are paying money to support the channel. It was very slow getting started though, I nearly quit altogether a bunch of times.
I streamed for 6 months before I got affiliate, often streaming to nobody. Much of that was my fault as I was doing pretty boring things like metronome exercises and transcriptions, and it took me a while to get my sound clear and clean. I only just got a decent camera last week after using a Logitech POS webcam for ages.
Finding others in the Twitch music community and started collaborating with them helped a lot. My channel really started to grow when I started participating in the community more. I just hit 1k which is a milestone I didn't think I'd get to a year ago.
In general the music community is a lot more into helping each other's channels grow than the gaming community in my experience. Every time I go on a music channel and say hi, if they are familiar with my work they shout me out and talk a little about what I do (and I and my mods do the same for them.) Gamers generally seem adverse to even acknowledging that anyone but them is a streamer. I told someone I'd been chatting with for a few weeks on a small (under 10 viewers) gaming channel that I was excited that I finally made affiliate that day and they went off on me. I've since seen a few similar interactions. I don't get it. It seems to mostly be an attitude among smaller gaming streamers. Some larger gaming streamers who are familiar with me always ask me unprompted how the music channel is going and sometimes even raid me or restream me as their break music. It's a pretty big contrast. It has made me stick within the music community more and more. I used to enjoy watching gaming channels but the etiquette difference is too much stress to jump between.

It's a good sight to see motivation being discussed in the actual perspective of a content creator. As a content creator myself, I do feel demotivated sometimes but I just take a deep breath and remind myself why I'm doing this, and it's simply because I LOVE making content!

I needed this video today. Thank you. I’m very new to streaming, having started 3 weeks ago, I have gone live 13 times. The last 3 streams I haven’t picked up any new followers, although I do have some loyal chatters already which is great! I am working on ways to keep my content fresh and exciting as I get closer to Affiliate follower goal! I’m confident that when I next go live it will be my best stream yet! I’m trying not to focus on the follower count and I hide the view counter whilst live. I’m just enjoying learning this new skill and focusing on making every stream more fun and exciting than the next! The followers will come if I keep to schedule and remain positive, I’m sure of it! Thank you For or this video and ALL your videos as they have been huge for me in getting started!

Starting to get a little difficult with more life being thrown at me but I plan on keeping this up! I think worst case I would reduce to to 3 videos a week of Monday Wednesday Friday which I would still feel good about being able to hit that goal every week.

I started streaming in May of this year to keep myself from falling asleep after work. I picked up a capture card and webcam and just started doing it whenever I was feeling tired after the drive home. At first I was just doing it irregularly and didn't really expect to like it. It was more just like a coach on the sidelines to keep me accountable. I do a solid 10+ hours of scheduled streaming in a week alongside my full time job now, where before that would have all been extra sleep in the evenings. I know you say not to have your friends sit in to bump your viewer count, but after I told them I had a stream I was doing, when they jump into chat it starts to feel a lot like the old days in high school or college when we would be playing together almost every night, and we can riff and make more natural jokes together than if I was just streaming and narrating to nobody. I set up a calendar and a list of small goals I'd like to achieve, which was just small stuff that sounds super basic (how to edit scenes, set up streamlabs alerts, etc) but I genuinely had no idea I'd even WANT to learn before I started this. I feel energized by doing it. I actually manage to stay awake quite easily now after 6 months. I've lost a bunch of weight just by virtue of not sleeping after eating dinner. My life feels more regimented and social just because I made a schedule and actually executed it. I'm not worried about getting to affiliate, because it's not really the point, and I'm just learning the jobs at my own pace and trying to expand my ideas beyond just chewing through my video game backlog with challenges and even some art stuff I've been neglecting since graduation as well. but I think this is something I could get good at eventually...

Absolutely true! Something big I've learned from listening to podcasts by Andy Frisella and others, motivation is just a fleeting idea in the end.
Habits, discipline, structure and creating those small steps to achieve that bigger goal/task is in my opinion make it or break it. Something I've been trying to consistently do everyday. It's not easy at first, but it does get better with time.

Try not to shatter the expecations of these that want to show up to your streams but do not beat yourself up if you need to set aside more time to get videos out. Try to think ahead and not schedule streams when you think you have editing that needs to be done.

I think mind list is IOS only, are there any similar apps that PC users can get? I've looked at Trello, Asana, and Jira but all of their UI's seem overly complicated and for more of a workforce than a single person. Microsoft to do seemed promising and is probably what I'll use in the meantime, the main couple issues I'm currently having with it is when I make a task I can only set it to be one day a week so if I would like it to be a reoccurring task for multiple days I would have to create a duplicate for the other days, that on it's own would be manageable but then when I want something on "My Day" (The main list for that single day) it shows me every reoccurring item even if, it's set for a different day.

Any good places to learn video editing for absolute noobs? Every time I motivate myself to learn all I find are videos that assume I have a decent level of understanding 🙃

Simple "101" type videos that teach how to use video editors are usually a good place to start. They give you an idea about how the software itself works which is step 0 to understand how editing in general works

why not be happy about the 1 viewer ? :) 1>0 the next goals is 3 viewers but keep building 1on1 relationships and ppl will start to stuck more depending on the game/type of streams.
Streaming for hours to 0 is truly depressing without getting 1on1 interaction every now and then, but still..it is a part of the game 1 has to go through. different individuals tend to stay for different amount of times on different games on my streams making me truly not talking to my yourself, because if the 1 viewer is even a loyal lurker, u still get no interaction back.
PS so shorter stream in the right time but with more energy and ideas might be more impactful than a 8 hour stream of more "nothing" if u get me. i rarely do 6-8 hours streams, but I always end up with less clips and content from them..and less interaction during them. I see 2-4h as a good minimum tho depending on the schedule for the day.

you share similar interests with many people, but your precise mix of influences and experiences is unique. even if you do something similar to someone else, you will be bringing something to the table that is uniquely you. so you might not ever be the BEST in your field, but you may end up contributing in some way that no one else could. or- you COULD be the best in the world, but you’d never know if you didn’t believe it was possible.
hope any of that helps, best of luck
