Bro, you’re speaking straight to my core when you’re speaking about the correlation(s) between social media, prog metal and attention spans haha! I shared a song with a you a few weeks back (thank you again for doing the reaction man! 👌🏼) by my favourite band - even when they haven’t yet released their debut album (10 days away now 😳) - and I’ve come to learn there’s a literal TWENTY MINUTE epic on there (I’m just waiting for the comments section to come and lynch me now 😂) that I can’t wait for. I love prog, and I appreciate longer song forms, having been through uni with 2 degrees under my belt and growing up with all these different kinds of music, prog just “speaks” to me in a way that no other does. I love Periphery man, and hearing all the references and allusions to one of their previous album releases in just two songs is very nostalgic and makes me smile! I’m glad you’re enjoying it too 🥰 👌🏼 P.s. sorry for the gigantic wall of text 🙈
I feel like that Periphery wants to catch the listener's attention. When I first listened to them during the time when they put out their 4th album, Hail Stan, I didn't who this band was but listening to the song, Blood Eagle, I was intrigued by it and more so wondering, as I listened to it, where it would go next. Periphery does a really good job at that. They just catch yout attention with these crazy time signatures, the hooks, the chugs, and even putting in something like a small jazz number that just makes their music unique. They stand by the genre of being prog metal and I feel they do the best plus they have fun with it. Not worried about money or trying to follow trends. They make music for the fans and to have fun which is apparent in the music video. Highly reccomend more of their music. Periphery and Erra are my two favorite prog metal bands but Periphery takes the cake for me after this song and Zagreus.
that last sentence is exactly my experience too, except it wasn't these songs that pushed them to the top for me. the ending of luck as a constant was what got me, and then the ending of ragnarok.
They also have band music vid for their Blood Eagle song, cheers man! You definitely should check out more of their older catalog, so many good "longer" songs that don't feel dragged at all
Some of the older stuff is a bit shorter but their long tracks evolve and keep your attention the whole way through. They have everything, chonk, chugs, djent, melody. Personally P:3 for me is a masterpiece 👌🤘
Speaking more on the idea of people and short attention spans: I think prog metal actually helps people with that issue and contemporary music being pretty repetitive. Every time you listen to prog metal you hear something new.

Well, you already know how I feel about this song and band so I’m just gonna leave this here 🤘🏻😉
I hope the album is like this. Never know what to expect with each song except to expect the unexpected.

On repeat since release. That chorus is otherworldly!
