    Thanks for posting this. I'm gaining a new love for the ribbon microphones. Great that the passive ribbons don't need phantom because it's a pain when your amp or P.A. system doesn't have it.

      Ribbon mics are really nice. A lot of vocalists prefer them to condenser mics. Thanks for checking out the video.

    Kind of tough, i still fond of the 57 been around forever, like a work horse, i did like the condensor Mike also, i guess it all comes down to preference ,as always love your videos, thanks

      They're all really great mics. I can't choose a favorite. I guess it depends on the situation. The ribbon has the bass, dynamic has the mids, and condenser has the overall response. It's just cool to hear them all side-by-side. Like I said... it was informative for me too. Thanks for watching Gary.

    Ribbon microphone 🥇 win. I love natural sound of speech

      I can’t disagree with you. That warm sticky sound is very natural. Thanks for watching.

    Now do one where you use the MXL and the 57 together...

    At2020 gets more pops than MXL so it's easier to mix the Ribon one , I used to have it in studio and I'm thinking on getting it again. I was between it and the AT2020 but didnt lile the crispy sound as the pops .

      I really like the AT2020 but it does have that subtle crispness to it. You're 100% correct about the MXL sounding smoother. Thanks for watching.

    I had to use my headphones to really hear the details. I preferred the SM57 on the Acoustic, the Ribbon on the amp, and on your voice I preferred the Ribbon there to, but the AT-2020 does sound good on the voice too. Again, these are just my opinions based on hearing them through my headphones

      Thanks for watching and really paying attention. They're all great mics. Just different. As you state, one may work better in a particular situation but it's good to have choices.

    The worst way to mic an acoustic is to put it right in front of the sound hole. You get huge blasts of air and it causes over the top muddy low end.

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  Рік тому +1

      I don’t know if it’s the worst way but it definitely not ideal. That’s why I have the mic pointed at the upper frets in these examples. I think the camera angle makes it look like it’s in front of the sound hole but it’s not. Thanks for watching.

    the shure and the condeser are clean response and give bright high end // the ribbon mike colors the sound the most shaving off the ice pick high end and warming stuff up as well giving a fat bottom end ,. i would use a bunch of them of drums is my pick , the ribbon is giving a pleasing all ready EQ,,ed,, sound ,. 95 bucks at sweet water ,,.

      I agree. The ribbon mic is really nice for that warm smooth tone. The condenser is really great for capturing detail. They're all great for different purposes.

      @ sorry bro! I did enjoy the video too though man! I was just doing research on acoustic treatment and I noticed quite a bit of reverb .

    Waw, this ribbon mic is way superior for voice recording, the sibilance sounds natural no need for dEsser at all.

      @musicalmiscellany  9 місяців тому +1

      Agreed. Ribbon mics work really well for vocals. They're warm and thick sounding where condenser mics tend to be a little bit brittle. I can't believe this little MXL sells for $99. It's a great mic.

    Good idea for a video, but the acoustic guitar recording technique was terrible. You recorded the sound hole.

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  2 роки тому

      Thanks for watching the video. I know everyone has their different techniques for acoustic guitar (and I agree the sound hole is not always optimum) but I tend to point it just forward of the sound hole, toward the high frets. That might not show up well from the camera angle. The idea is, I did all 3 the same way for the benchmark.

    Not much of a singer in my opinion.
    But the At2020 wins
