There's a story in one of Jamie Boyle's books about Paul Sykes, which involved me!*!* Me & a mate were in Bourbon Street nightclub in Wakefield early 90's & Sykes came in straight on the dancefloor. Everybody moved away & I told my mate to walk away but he ignored me. So, just Sykes & my mate left & Sykes walks up to him & started shadow boxing at my mate 🙈🥊 My mate had no idea who Sykes was, so started boxing BACK at Sykes FFS!! I just said to one of the Doormen: "My mate's gonna end up in Pinderfields (Hospital), so I had to walk towards them, and drag my mate away without getting battered. Quickest I've ever sobered up to be honest 🤣🤣🙈
Top video again Sam. The old time hard man with the scars, if it's the same guy, it sounds like him, shotgun sca on the knee, very handy guy, I was in Haverigg with him in 2004 I used to do a lot of circuits and hit the pads with him boxing he was a sound guy I'd love to meet him again.

Morning Sam...Stephen. Lovely day for a stroll and a chat. Funny how some people can behave as they do yet continue to take a stance against things like bullying....the irony of such thinking never occurring to them I suppose. Glad to learn you were only intimidated and not hurt by the guy. As for Sykes...it was good to hear he got a clithering. Everything I've seen of that guy on UA-cam has been an advert for the return of flogging. Anyway...thanks for the conversation and the insight Sam. Hope the weekend is going well for you and the family. All the best!
Remember Sykes well from my time being brought up on Lupset estate, stayed well clear of him whilst he was out of prison, late 60’s 70’s, I’ll say no more.
This is where correctional facilities go tremendously wrong and have consistently for a long long time. If you read historical writing about Alcatraz, short (ish) sentences with the harshest conditions, designed to completely break the soul and mentality of the prisoner, resulted in the criminal never returning to prison. Not one free man ever returned to prison after a stint in Alcatraz. Some say inhumane, many say a needed evil for society to progress.

Brilliantly informative as always. I think it's about earning respect rather than just expecting to be respected. No matter how long it takes. Play by the book and take no liberties and respect will usually follow. Thanks for posting mate, all the very best to you, your family and Stevie.
My dad was also a scouser - Arnie Clarke (RIP). Growing up I used to get told all the stories which made both me and brother stay out of any bother. During our time in the military both me and our kid got calls from my mum at home saying that our dad was was on the roof at Strangeways 1991. He did time with Sykes and had a run in with him during one of his stretches. He didn’t like him and said he was a bully but a hard bastard but had a liking for younger lads which my dad hated and stood against. Never heard my dad say a bad word against many people (Even screws) but Sykes was one of them.
Hi John, my brother did a few stretches in Hull, Armley and a couple of max prisons. He was in with Bronson who, he said was OK and strong as f##k. He knew of Sykes from being in Hull(after hearing about him beating a fitness instructor or screw with a dumbbell) One related story he told me was of Sykes being transferred yet again to Hull or another local nick. A guy suggested to the screws that he should share his cell with him. The screws obliged knowing full well that this could be an interesting encounter. The guy was shorter and stockier than Sykes but, according to my brother gave him quite a bit of a twatting. Even then all those years ago my bro said Sykes was into raping young lads
@@unclebungle7870 Yeah I can imagine mate. Would of paid to be a fly on the wall in that cell. I tried to be as respectful as possible with my comment as to not cause any disrespect to anyone. Just that there is far too many 1st hand accounts of him being like that and especially hearing direct off my old fella. Turns your stomach. Sykes ain’t for me nor will I give his film a watch as there are probably countless victims. I dunno man, Whether that thing is more tolerated inside then maybe Yammy and anyone else who been rinsed by the system could further elaborate. Horrible thought though. Looses my respect though on that one for what it’s worth. Best of luck to you Bungle 👌
I work in mental health I can’t explain enough how vulnerable you feel when your being being bullied or about to be attacked in work that shit has contributed to my mental health decline
That was 'gold' Mr Samworth! If I hear another 'office wulluh' or some such saying 'MY job is really stressful' ...... I shall refer 'em to THIS vid, Clearly, some years after the event, the recollection of these events still cause some anxiety ............. if not for you, they certainly did for me! You and indeed ALL prison officers have my utmost respect.
I know, I am like that sometimes tho .........am like am sooo tired cant take this anymore...then I watch Mr Sam and I think ya mardy ass cow get ya chit together lol
First time I ever got sent down I was warned about Paul Sykes by a older prisoner in the cells under the courts, I was young blonde hair, is exact words were "he likes blondes", Paul was a con but he was a cleaner apparently on YP wing in Armley. Luckily I didn't go to Armley that time round, they sent me to Medomsley DC instead.😅
It was a tough regime, but it was better than getting bummed, lol. Joking aside, Medomsley was a real hellhole thank god you could only get 4 months in there, borstal/YC wasn't that much better. Made Con jails too easy really, going through the system that is. Love your channel.
@@stan-ut5gj wow, good luck. You was beaten from the minute you stepped onto that red line in reception to the minute you got out. Can you remember an officer called german, he was nasty to the inmates, I was fit as a fiddle by the time I got out. Running weights, standing weights, running benches, standing benches, murder ball, slaps. lol parade 4 times a day, digging party. 10mile run around the fence, dead man hill. If you couldn't physically do what was asked of you, you were nicked for refusing an order, and the food, when I was there one Christmas everybody got food poisoning or dysentery, cant remember wich. Anyway, good luck with your claim mate.
Love your uploads, great stories. This lad must of been a beast to do Sykes in, but was it the fitness freak Sykes or the total drunk wreck Sykes became?
Being a Wakefield lad I knew Paul ,,always ok with me ..it was a shame to see him towards the end of his days...he was a very intelligent bloke just a shame about the drink..great video as usual Sam. Take it easy.... Tee.....
I got 2 year YOUTH CUSTODY IN HMYCC when I was 16 year old in CASTINTON 1992 Sykes was visiting his son on the visit Paul tried to take his son home off the visit it' was bedlam
Thanks Sam and Stephen that was very interesting. I've seen a documentary on Sykes and can see he's a big bully and his boxing career ended when he turned away in the ring , a bully for you . Thanks again love and respect from oz
Sykes was a pure bully and liberty taker . Yes he could have a fight but he had no respect due to his bullying . One of those people that would cause trouble on an empty house . I’ve met real hard men and they arnt bullies .

I wanna say he’s talking about Darren G but Sykes was before him. Sykes was ‘done’ a few times in prison, also by Fred The Head who Bronson thinks was the hardest prisoner. But I also heard Viv Graham beat Fred on the outside in Newcastle. Lee Duffy also offered Sykes out and called him a nonce in front of everyone but Sykes didn’t want it.
I heard that they kept paul and lee separated in prison, because lee really wanted to do paul for sexually assaulting some young con,but I do not know the real truth of this!?
@@stephenbarningham330 Paul never sexually assaulted anyone n the eyes of those that know him. Not people like Brian cockerill who has never even met Paul and just has an obsessive agenda against Jamie Boyle who wrote the Sykes and Duffy books because there’s a new Sykes movie coming out so he’s trying to boycott it. His criminal record has zero offences or accusations of sexual assault

Afternoon Sam great vlog Really intriguing look at how the dynamics between staff and prisoner can change overtime grandma always said something like treat Others how you yourself would want to be treated were respect is given respect is earned you truly have a gift for talking-to and helping people glad yourself and this individual eventually ended up on relatively good terms hope you Have a peaceful weekend give Stephen a hug from me Best regards to your family

Amazing how so many people know about Paul Sykes when he is not here to defend his word?????
Sykesy was OK was in Manchester and frankland with him, I never seen any bullying by him
@@mummyd1990 that is true. All these tales but hardly ever any witnesses.

Always interesting vids. Best wishes Sam and doggie!
Brilliantly informative as always.
I think it's about earning respect rather than just expecting to be respected. No matter how long it takes. Play by the book and take no liberties and respect will usually follow.
Thanks for posting mate, all the very best to you, your family and Stevie.
Cheers dude, all the very best reet back at ya
What a fabulous channel ,mate . respect.👍👍👍👍👍👍
I take my hat off to you, well done, thank you

Great video amigo , Max Respect 👊💯
@@unclebungle7870
Yeah I can imagine mate.
Big fan of yours Sam. Steven steals the show though 💪
I work in mental health I can’t explain enough how vulnerable you feel when your being being bullied or about to be attacked in work that shit has contributed to my mental health decline
When tou know it coming but nowt you can do🙏
Chin up bud.👊💛💚🏴
Terrifying stuff, Sam.
Stay well brother and thank you for these videos!
It must have been a very stressful job and frightening take care and a big 😘 to the gorgeous Stevie

Very interesting vlog as always Sam keep up the brilliant work Sam all the best to you and yours Sam as always 👍👏😀

For everyone asking if its Danny Gee, Sam said it wasn't about 11 days ago.
Great video. Absolute legend!
Jeez and that was better? Bless ya all the very best dude x
It was a tough regime, but it was better than getting bummed, lol. Joking aside, Medomsley was a real hellhole thank god you could only get 4 months in there, borstal/YC wasn't that much better. Made Con jails too easy really, going through the system that is. Love your channel.
@@rob__ert I see three of the screws were sent down for sexually abusing the YPs in the 70s and 80 s
I was in medomsly too,my claim for assault against the sadistic screws is going through, been told I'm getting compensation.
@Genghis kharnage he'd punch em right int fookin earhole
Armley days it would've been fit sykes 🙂

Got to say what a bloke you are! Keep up the good content 👌👍👍
Being a Wakefield lad I knew Paul ,,always ok with me ..it was a shame to see him towards the end of his days...he was a very intelligent bloke just a shame about the drink..great video as usual Sam. Take it easy.... Tee.....
A shame? He raped people in jail!!
I got 2 year YOUTH CUSTODY IN HMYCC when I was 16 year old in CASTINTON 1992 Sykes was visiting his son on the visit Paul tried to take his son home off the visit it' was bedlam
Great content...bless you brother
Thanks Sam and Stephen that was very interesting. I've seen a documentary on Sykes and can see he's a big bully and his boxing career ended when he turned away in the ring , a bully for you . Thanks again love and respect from oz
Cheers dude very kind
He nearly killed a man in the ring that' put him of boxing he wasn't a bad boxer he used to terrorize the bouncers in Wakefield
Sykes was a pure bully and liberty taker . Yes he could have a fight but he had no respect due to his bullying . One of those people that would cause trouble on an empty house . I’ve met real hard men and they arnt bullies .

I no who your talking about Danny gee
I’ll do a video about the most intimidating prisoner I ever met tell you all about him but want mention who he is ..#pointless 🤷♂️
Even though you were a CO. You are honest. I like your content
I think he’s talking about Darren g brother
@@stephenbarningham330 Paul never sexually assaulted anyone n the eyes of those that know him. Not people like Brian cockerill who has never even met Paul and just has an obsessive agenda against Jamie Boyle who wrote the Sykes and Duffy books because there’s a new Sykes movie coming out so he’s trying to boycott it. His criminal record has zero offences or accusations of sexual assault
