Wow such qualifications.
Yeah that guy in the White House won
His sexuality is completely irrelevant! People care about what a politician can and will do for them, not about who they marry.
First sentence - spot on. Second sentence up to the comma - spot on. After the comma, unfortunately not true. There's an awful lot of petty human beings in this world who can't get over some stigma they perceive.
The viral video of the woman who wanted to take back her vote after she found out he was gay proves that is just flat out wrong. I do however agree that it should be irrelevant, but sadly it still influences people. If he ran in a republican election he probably wouldn’t stand a chance, and in a race where it necessary to convert Trump voters, it could effect it quite a bit.
There was a woman in Iowa that asked for her vote back when she found out he had a same-sex partner.

@parrotprodigy productions Damn..... Well said.
The whole caucus thing makes no sense. The person with the most votes should win - forget delegates. Certain states shouldn’t “matter” more than others. How is it that “American Idol” has a more coherent voting system than the US has for deciding who runs the country?
The whole American election system makes no sense. In the past 20 years there were 2 candidates who had more votes, but lost the election. All because of the electoral college. The USA isn't a direct democracy where it comes to the presidency. You vote for the people that vote for the president.
Another weird aspect of the American system: a senators from California represents 930.000 people, while a North Dakota senator represents just 14.000 constituents.
The small states have an advantage in the current political system.
It's the way most democracies work. You want to have someone from your riding to champion your causes in the house. It would also be unfair if you win your riding in a landslide victory, but the opposition gets that seat. What are we supposed to do? Go by popular vote and let the parties pick the candidates that they feel should be in the house? I can see the argument that these caucuses should be a popular vote, but I don't see an easy workaround for the actual election to have local representation. It's a flaw in democracy, but a necessary one. Improvements should certainly be made to the election system, but I don't see a move to a popular vote being the answer.
Because america is not a single country at the time it began. It is a collection of separate states and if direct democracy was applied the small states would rather ally with a european country than join the us. Thats why they inflate their importance. Now its not that important to give priority but this is the basis of republicans power that would be gone with direct democracy
@@rvdb7363 That is the basis of the Senate. Every state has two senators, no matter the size or population. The number of congresspeople in the house is dependent on population. The reason for the two senators is because small states like Rhode Island refused to ratify the Constitution without giving provisions to protect smaller states from being bulldozed by larger ones. This compromise works pretty well in Congress because you have the two branches. It doesn't work very well when voting for a president.
I appreciate you lifting this from Seth Meyers. And I tend to agree that the Democratic Party, which has championed the popular vote for a long time, should probably not use the same political system that we use nationally if they want to get serious about the popular vote.
Bernie Sanders is my first choice, but if Warren, Biden, or Buttigieg gets the nomination I would be fine with it.
Why Bernie?
Finally, someone sane
@@thequietlion3553 I never understood why anybody would prefer Bernie over Pete. And nobody has yet cared to explain.
Honestly, I’d be ok with any of those people getting elected, because in all likelihood, once they got into office, the policies that any of them ultimately would be able to get passed through Congress and implemented wouldn’t differ much.
People prefer Bernie over Pete because Bernie has been on the right side of history for over 40 years. There is video of him defending gay rights in the 1993 when it was extremely unpopular to do that even in the democrat party. He was arrested for protecting civil rights in the 1960s. He voted against the iraq war when most democrats voted for it. Also, his policies are better and he isn’t bought out by corporations.
On the other hand, Pete is funded by billionaires which gives the illusion that he won’t fight for the 99% and will continue the status quo. His campaign donated money to fund the app named “shadow” that screwed up the whole Iowa caucus. It creates the illusion of cheating at the very least.

To be honest, we don’t know who won and because of the appalling way it was run we may never know for sure. If this farce of an election happened in a “shit whole country” we wouldn’t be surprised, but we should expect and demand a higher standard in the US.
If the figures they released before the dubiously motivated recount can be believed 🤷🏽♂️ (who knows) Bernie got thousands more votes than Pete and as you’re probably aware Pete wants the removal of the electoral college, and believes that in elections the person that gets the most votes is the winner. He can’t have it both ways.
They are doing a recount now as there are so many irregularities, with second votes going to the wrong candidate, bizarre coin toss and some cynics are saying that Bernie was winning the last few results to be declared.

At times i was wondering if Colbert was trying to trip buttigieg up.
He wasn't the only one who declared victory - and so what, it WAS a victory for him no matter how you look at it, but he's the one being slammed by Bernie supporters because he's competition. They've been ignoring him and concentrating on picking on Biden - Buttigieg knew that would happen so why throw all your cards on the table the first day. The long and short of it is that the former communications director for the South Bend Police Departmen discovered racial remarks from certain officers and detectives on recordings of 911 and front desk calls and brought this information to Chief Boykins. Boykins asked the communications director to back up some of these recordings as potential evidence and confronted some of the officers in question. @@EdwardHeavrin not really?
Edward Heavrin yeah right
Pete Buttigieg isn't the one bringing up his sexuality. And his policies are the best for where we actually are as a country, not where we wish we were. Countries that offer free college didn't go from crippling college debt with companies making major profits off student loans one day to shutting down all college loan companies and providing free college the next. That direct path doesn't work. Pete is one of the only candidates to understand the middle steps that some of the other candidates like to gloss over. Like free community college/trade schools. Or free college for people of a certain level of wealth. He is still headed towards the end results, but his policies make more sense for where we are.
I absolutely also support Warren and Bernie. I would love to live in the type of progressive country they are describing. I am super liberal. I know that most people are not as liberal as I am, Trump absolutely cannot win again for the country's future, and things don't change overnight.
@@rebeccaschwartz5477 I did liked Pete Buttigieg in the beginning. I notice that in this primary there were a lot of candidates that started out very progressive which was nice to see. They could have kept lying to us until after they've won the election, but their corporate donors were not having it.
@@rebeccaschwartz5477 As for Elizabeth Warren, I believe that she is very smart and have the right policies. She was great when fighting Wall Street and the Republican party, but unlike "Tulsi" she has always lack the courage to stand up against her own corrupt party. When Elizabeth Warren used Identity politics against Bernie of their supposed private conversation about "female can't win the presidency". It shows me two things. (1) She lacks integrity as she has often bend the truth for political gain (like Native American heritage). (2) She lacks good political instincts because her betrayal to Bernie totally back fired on her. [Conclusion] no courage, no integrity, no political instincts = no presidency.
It was nice that we had an African American for President and It'd be nice also to have a female American President or gay for that matter. Identity politics is kinda nice but like I said, it doesn't do squat for the American public.

About how there are a lot of discrepancies in the results the party is putting out vs what caucus goers and volunteers saw and recorded on the ground. About how Tom Perez has stacked the DNC full of people that openly hate Bernie Sanders. About how Tom Perez has had it out for the Sanders campaign since 2015. About how Pete literally declared victory before any results were out. About how the party’s allies in the media are all uniformally pushing the exact same narrative. About how the DNC just took 1.2 million dollars from Michael Bloomberg and are subsequently changing their rules to favor his campaign. About how they’re also planning on reversing the super delegate rule and the concerted effort of the establishment and their allies in the media to malign this movement. How can a man won more delegates when his rival beat him by 6000 votes?
It's called weighted voting. The DNC put it in place in Iowa back a few years ago. It was intended (though they never admit it) to ensure that encumbants (more conservative candidates) always win. It weights rural (more conservative) counties' votes higher than urban ones. They say it's to make it "fairer" but it has the opposite effect. So, if you want to win, you have to get ALL the rural counties, or... nothing. Nothing you do outside of that is going to be good enough. You could have a million more votes, but if they aren't in the right counties, you still lose delegates. And this is the same reason the stupid electoral college is still in use, and similarly is unfair.
