Thank you Margaret! I'm located in Perth and getting so, so much from your videos/tutorials on sewing details. After a stroke eighteen months ago, my retentive memory tends to be impaired or stuck on some days. Your videos and tutorial are a huge help as a memory jog for folk in my situation and also for those who would want to brush up on some lost sewing skills. I always loved piping. If done well, it brings such a fresh, crisp and attractive aspect to a garment. You do and teach this magnificently! Making one's own bias is such a bonus: sincere thanks.
Thank you, this makes everything very clear and straightforward. I've dalways been a stitcher, made many many items, clothes etc, but not so young as I was and caring for my very aged mother, my memory plays tricks and I need some clear reminders 😏 Your video is perfect 👍 God Bless 🙏🏻❤️
I think it might also be worth saying that if your machine has the option of the needle stopping in the 'down' position this helps to anchor the fabric whilst making minor adjustments to the binding. I also use my seam ripper as an extension of my finger to hold the binding in position at tricky moments in front of the needle! Thanks for your tutorials - they're great!
Love your video. So easy to follow and understand what you are doing. Hope to see some more tutorials about sewing from you in the near future. Will keep my eye out for them. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make us all happy out here with more from you..
Thank You so much. Seeing is believing I can do bias tailoring as it makes everything professional looking. I am going to give it a try. So glad that I can watch the video over again as I try doing this. Thanks again!
What a well thought out and perfectly executed tutorial. You have a wonderful teaching voice. I feel as though I could learn the most technical and intricate methods of sewing from you.
Really enjoyed your VD and the extra tips you shared. Neither your nails, nor your jewelry were distracting, I found them very attractive as I have been a sewer, quilter & crafter for over 50 years and as professional in the work force, I also wear nice nails and attractive jewelry and feel no need to remove them to sew and make something handmade. Why should I have to become frumpy to sew???? Wonderful job you do, keep up the great videos and thank you from Central Oregon, USA.
hahaha I was so concentrating on what you were showing us I didn't really notice all the bling people are commenting on (had to watch again to see). Very Informative video, great camera too, could see very clearly.
One of the worse part of using bias instead of facings was the 5/8 seam allowances and the 3/8 bias fold over. Silly me!! Just why did I think I had to use that folding tool? Watching the ease you had in doing it your way was a thump on the head!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Absolutely the easy and most informative sewing video I ever watched. In the bias video you are wearing a beautiful watch, and I am curious as to what brand name and where I could find one, if you don't mind. I live in Canada therefore we will never show up at the same function wearing it...lol. Thanks again.
Hi Sandra! Thanks for watching, the watch is a 'Guess' Watch. My daughter has one in silver and my mother has the same one with diamante details on it. I'm sure its still available. Treat yourself! :) :)
Hi Margaret. Thanks for the great tutorial. Which type of Juki sewing machine you are working with in this tutorial? Thanks a lot for your answer. Regards, Nikolas from Bavaria/Germany
Very good, it looks so easy . How do you deal with the raw edges of a straight piece of fabric? For example, a padded saucepan lid holder. I followed an American video and I messed up badly. Later I realised it was a dark shadowy stretch of film when the video got to the part where the lady finished it, so the dealing with the raw edge wasn’t shown ( perhaps intentionally). Thank you very much. Merry Christmas and Happy 2020.🎄
When sewing on the bias strips, would you suggest sewing the bias to the inside of the garment first and then finishing on the outside? Or does it matter?
I think you do it like you are binding a quilt. If you are going to hand sew the binding, you sew it on the front of the quilt, turn it to the back and hand sew. If you are going to machine stitch the binding, you sew it on the back of the quilt, turn it to the front and machine stitch it onto the front.
You make this look so easy I'm useless at it have spent 3 days trying to bind a item and still haven't got anywhere it's where both sides will be visible when finished and I can't get it lined up and sewn neat both sides as keep missing the bottom side
actually I m a seams dresser but some tips I need I will feel free to ask you I really need to know how you put that zipper that you can't see from outside thank you
I’ve a question regarding sewing the outward curve while sewing on bias binding. I always have problems with the bias puckering and not sitting flat when I go to topstitch the bias. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Julie.... Try stretching the corner a little as you are going around and the fabric will naturally want to curve in, eliminating the excess fabric which puckers. The other way is to press it into shape with an iron before stitching. The heat gives the fibre a new memory after it cools down and therefore remains in shape as you sew. Regards Margaret

it's nice to see that you don't need a fiddley foot to do really neat work . I love your nails and jewellery! everything is so neat and tidy !
HI Margaret, love your Demo will make up a lot of strips with all my scraps and use them. Look forward to watching all your other videos.
Just getting back into sewing now that I'm retired, and this is the best video I've seen so far that explains bias binding.
