An alternate only had to win 1 bout to win an 8 man tournament. Honorable mention to UFC 24 where Kevin Randleman slipped on a metal pipe backstage before the main event and got knocked out cold. The main event had to be cancelled. Also UFC 11 had a wild turn of events.

Lost it's main event and comain within 3 days before the event and couldn't be be replaced in the slightest with any star power. It was and still is the weakest card I've ever seen at the time and even now considering prospects have had time to come in their own. Darren Till was the only fighter notable and that was 3 fights before he fought Cowboy. Just a nightmare scenario.
